Did you set your application settings to allow unknown sources?

Any special instructions for using wifi tether? I could not get it to work. My adapter saw it, could connect but there was no internet available. Should I be using bluetooth or wifi mode?

Ahhhh sorry, but if the suffix is ".zip", just change it to ".apk" (without the quotes) and try it again.

Please let me know how you make out!

I've had this happen from time to time.

I have mine set up as Wi-Fi mode, and changed the SSID to "Droid", as well as changing the channel, in my area 12 works good.

As well, somtimes I find that I may need to reboot my puter to reset the Wireless.

Let me know how you make out...

I just downloaded it, and it's 42K. The name is "smupdater-6.zip". It shows up as a zip archive. Do not unzip it, just change the suffix to .apk and use Astro/App Manager to install it.

Keep me apprised of how you make out.

We WILL get it to work!

I got it here: http://downloads.sholes.info/smupdater-6.apk and even though the link shows it as a .apk, it shows up on my Visa 64 as a .zip.

When you download it is it a folder, or an archive?

All I did was mount my Droid to my computer and copy it to the SD card.

Then open up Astro and then hit app manager.

I installed it and rank the app, and then hit quit. I haven't actually done the whole process yet.

Yeah, that's the way it's suppose to work.

I just uninstalled it, re-installed it and ran it.

It re-downloaded "recovery-0,.99.3b.img" (i'm already running it) and rebooted.

I must be missing somthing here..

Ahh, well. I just downloaded it from your server, and it shows up as a .zip file!

Is your puter set up so you can actually see the file extensions? It needs to be renamed to .apk if it isn't..

I'll stay up all night till we get it right!!!

.zip and .apk are the same thing. Its just the proprietary android name for a zip I think. Apps can be reversed into .zip if you just change the extension, then you can unpack them to mess with em too.

Yeah, sorry about that!

I'm on several different forums, and several threads at the same time.

Combine that with my gurlfriend Skyping me, it does get confusing..

Did droidzilla get it working yet?

Just a thought, try a battery pull and give it a shot again.

Another option would be to try another SD card, or even copying everything of yours, reformatting it, and putting it all back, including a "fresh" DL ofSMUpdater...

I'm determined to get this working for you...

Earlier in this post I said that you could either reach the dev for help at alldroid or sholes.info; well scratch all droid from the list.

Goodbye AllDroid.
Today, after much abuse, the Sholes.info team made the decision to leave AllDroid.org for good. Our lack of presence on AllDroid.org will never affect Sholes.info releases. We are still right here and always plan to be.
Our departure from AllDroid was made to help speed up development. Development was constantly being slowed by the childish issues of many people on the forum. Furthermore the treatment of our colleagues, teammates, and supporters by the staff at AllDroid was atrocious. One disturbingly childish member of the community went to the extend of reporting trevorj to ICANN for violating the rules when he failed to update the WHOIS information on his domain with the latest address. This sort of drama does not foster good development and is unnecessary. We will not be returning to AllDroid, but development will continue as it always has. If Sholes.info does decide to start a community forum of their own, we would be honored if our supporters would come visit us once in a while there, we welcome all of you with open arms. Until then, we hope you enjoy everything and thank you for all of the support. It is truly and deeply appreciated by each and every member of the Sholes team.

Been redoing my root. I had followed instructions from somewhere that showed to root then install flan. So I followed those and then couldn't install the bugless beast. Then someone said that I had to install bugless beast from 2.0.1 so I undid everything and started over. Seems I can't have both bugless beast and 2.1. Is that correct? Easy choice for me if I have to choose though.

Make sure you've gone to applications and checked 'unknown sources' under settings before installing non-market apks. Also, they won't update the way that market-dl'd ones will.

So how often does the sholes team release new ROM's? I'm happy so far with 2.0.3, but it is unstable from time to time...but I chalk that up to running at 800mhz.

@dubbsix: Try this: pull the battery, repower on while holding the 'x' key. This should get you to the SP recovery menu. Sholesmod makes a backup before installing, if I'm not mistaken, so go down the menu to backup/restore and choose 'simple nandroid restore.' Hopefully, this will return you to the backed-up rooted but pre-rom state.

We're not giving up yet!

Put the file you downloaded back on your SD card and try to use Astro/Apllication Mgr to install it again.

Let me know how you make out..

OK, Navigate to the file using Astro, and long-press on it, and select details.

I just did it, and get:
Name: smupdater-6.apk
Size: 44.307 bytes
Permissions: -rw
Mime type: application/apk
Modified: 2010-09-33 18:33:42

Any difference in yours??

OK so when I just select it in Astro I get a window that says: Application File, with the choice of Browse File, or Open App Manager. I select Open App Manager. I get 2 tabs on top that say Summary & Details. Below them I have Uninstall (I already have it installed) & Launch.

Whay do you see?

If I want to keep all my apps, in the Wipe Data screen do I hit yes or no?

Go to Android Market and get Home Switcher. There may be another way, not sure. So you've selected one as the default?

If you wipe data your contacts and preferences will be gone. Your apps will remain but when you open them it will be like running them for the first time.

Is there a benefit to wiping data?

EDIT: Also, I seem to be stuck towards the end of "Dumping data.tar". Is this supposed to take this long?

If it's not done by the time you read this, I would reboot and try it again. It's been known to hang on a rare occasion. I wiped my data and it seemed to cut down on Launcher FCing. The first time I flashed the ROM, I got FCs left and right. After flashing again and wiping data, it's only FCed once in the passed week.

Glad you got something working -

If you want I can always e-mail you the file. Sholes has also put out an update to the updater.

Put the file you downloaded back on your SD card and try to use Astro/Apllication Mgr to install it again.
