Default Best one click root method...

Gentlemen,

I'm trying to breathe new life into my OG Droid hoping it will reduce the sting of the constant non delay delays of the Galaxy Nexus (how can something be delayed when there was never an official release date?).

So I've reflashed to 2.2 but my question is about root. I want to run wifi tether as well as OC. What is the most current and most efficient way to root?

I did the command line root, it didn't go very well, then tried the Soup or Root, only worked about half the time. My next attempt will be SuperOneClick, since their website seems to be current, with version 2.2 only being released a little more than a week ago.

When I did manage to have root, I flashed to the latest CM 7.1 GB rom, and a few things stood out right off the bat. Firstly, under accounts, I didn't see an option to enter my Google account info to sync my contacts, or my Facebook account. Only the option for an enterprise account? Also, under the preinstalled app drawer, the was no Android Market app.

Am I missing something?

Also I want to OC, and I installed SETCPU and was able to boost to 800 Mhz, but I have heard of people running over 1ghz. I am thinking this has to do with a custom kernal, but I'm a little unclear.

Any advice is appreciated. Ultimately I would like to be running wifi tether on an OC'ed OG Droid running a stable Gingerbread rom. Thats probably alot to ask.

Eddie

I answered my own questions.

I tried Super One Click but had issues, went back to Soup or Root. I figured I only needed to get it to work once as long I was willing to wipe everything whenever I wanted to flash a different ROM. I don't like installing software over software.

As for the missing apps, you need to install the Google App Pack via ROM Manager that can be found on the Cyanogen web site (I ended up going with Cyanogenmod 7.1).

For OCing Cyanogen comes with a built in overclocking feature, but it is capped at 800 mhz. So I fired up ROM manager and downloaded and installed the Chevy 1.2 OLV kernal, and now I have the option to crank it to 1.2 ghz in the Cyanogen performance options (which I did, so far so good).

Its only been a day, but it feels like an entirely different phone. We will see how things progress.
