I'm a very simple phone user. Text messaging with some facebook, and calls here and there. Nothing else, no games, apps, or anything else.
I'm trying to get the best battery life I possibly can out of my droid, so i was told to try some custom roms/kernals.
I was getting 13 hours on average when it was all stock (brightness all the way down, all the stuff on power control widget off)
I have tried Steel Droid, CM7 Nightly, Simply stunning, charity (froyo 2.1), and I am currently running nexbeast.
All my friends with thunderbolts and other droids say they are getting close to 4 days on a charge using cm7, and once I have tried all the kernals/roms my battery has gone from 13 hours on average down to 9 (still have brightness all the way down and all power widget stuff off)
Any ideas on how I can get better battery for texting and facebook?

4 days seem a little unbelievable to me, unless they are using some sort of extended battery.
You could always (assuming your kernel supports it) try a combination of underclocking and undervolting... Just look to see if if the kernel supports either Voltage Control and/or SetCPU...
Also, a new battery will probably help. A battery will degrade over time as your charge/discharge. I would recommend an extended battery if you are going that route, especially if battery life is a driving factor.
Any ROM based on Gingerbread is going to eat your battery up, unless you have absoltuely no use, no widgets, no background checking for messages and email, etc. Gingerbread uses more RAM than FroYo and is way more aggressive at killing tasks that run in the background in order to free up RAM - which means it will constantly be trying to get rid of apps and services that it deems are not being used to keep foreground processes running smoother.
Also, even with only my old droid not connected to a cell network anymore, I only get 5-7 days on the battery per charge. You're not going to get 4 on a DROID unless the battery is brand new and you have no connectivity at all - as in put your phone in airplane mode.
Best bet - go back to stock for better battery life, or start removing widgets and reducing your connectivity to a minimum.
Also, do remember that your DROID is not the same as a Thunderbolt and other phones.
Alternatively, instead of using froyo you can purchase a better battery. On ebay I bought a "buy it now" for about $19. It came with 2 3500 mAh batteries, 2 replacement battery covers because it's thicker than the standard, and 1 A/C charger so you can charge them outside the phone.
This way for everyday use, just use the standard battery (it's only about 1300 mAh) and when you will be away from a charger for extended times, use the bulky battery. I got 2 because my wife and I both have og droids but there are folks selling singles for less. It's not the best option in the world (that would be buying a new phone), it's a trade off but it should help bridge the gap for another year or so. I had to do something, I couldn't stand froyo any longer and it was so sluggish it was driving me nuts. I also saw some standard size batteries that were 1800 mAh for $5 (with free shipping) from china if you feel its necessary to never have the phone bulkier. It's old enough now, all the accessories (OEM and knock offs) are dirt cheap.
Again, and as mentioned by others, we're using an OG droid, over clocking it and using software on it that it was never intended to handle. Everything is a trade off. I'm doing what's best for myself so I can wait longer before getting a new phone. You may want to do the same, roll back to froyo, or bite the bullet and get new hardware.
