DON'T PANIC. I'm getting ready to go to sleep, but I am very familiar with OG Droids. I'll look into it in the morning and try to get you a solution. There is no such thing as an unrootable OG Droid. If you can let me know under Settings | About Phone what the current version is, it would be of great help. Just post back here as much information you know about the phone.

Hi I've been trying to root my droid for sometime now without a computer and have had no luck. I will try the z4root but was wondering if i needed to download anything else first? Im currently running 2.2.3 frg76.
Edit: after reading comments about this z4root, it looks like it doesn't work for 2.2.3.Has this worked for anyone else with 2.2.3?

Rooting is pretty easy for the most part, but these folks are trying to do it without being able to connect to a PC. The only method I know about is Z4. Unfortunately, they are not having good luck . I think you may need to get a USB to micro usb cable in order to get root. Sorry

No. The only way to root the Motorola A855 (OG Droid) is via a computer.
<snip> you may need to get a USB to micro usb cable in order to get root.
And there it is there. There is no way to root the Motorola A855 without a PC and cable. There are only two methods. One is linked above, and the second one is here:
jeez Teddy you are a jerk aren't you?? I told you I had a computer but with no internet and I never said i didn't have a USB cable.
I don't know what your problem is but looks to me like you need a therapist more than a forum!! Get help!

Hey relax, I shouldn't have gone that far and neither should have you. He's jumping the gun on us, but it happens. We have to ignore stuff like that here. Unfortunately.
Anyways, did you manage to root your Droid yet? The version used to root it was 1.7, so I assume any newer version would also work.

Yeah well he didn't have to bash every post i made,
one would have been plenty. Guess i shouldn't have started a thread asking questions that already have plenty of answers though , but I couldn't fine exactly what I needed. Next time ill just post a question.I see where he's coming from but he doesn't have to be such an ass about it lol.
And no haven't yet rooted.Tried the 2.2 last night and it kept stopping at rooting step # 6 and their was no rageaginistthecage option. Now I read that ratc 1.7 is the only way to do it and that later versions no longer have this option.
So I now have 1.7 and I'm gonna give it a try today. When I transfer it to the computer should i extract the files? After transferring run the program with ratc on the computer with my phone plugged in right? Where does it go after i transfer it to the computer, I mean where do I run if from? Its the computer part that throws me.
Thanks so much for your help!!
Hey, sorry about my style. I wasn't at all bashing you nunnya. As I said in the other thread, my style is just short and matter of fact, so for some it comes off like I'm being a jerk.
The other quotes were about the OP saying he tried z4root and the reply was to try z4root. I'm sorry but if someone isn't willing to read the whole problem, why bother?

make it simple, extract it to the desktop and run program from the extracted folder. Don't move any files around once it's extracted. Check the rageagainstthecage option, plug in your phone and start the root process
when you turn on USB storage, the computer should open your SD card folder, just locate SOC and drag it to the desktop. From there, extract the program and open the extracted folder, find the program and run it
