For those of you who have seen the 2.1 Launcher made by arctu (over at XDA) and really want it, but don't want to flash over to Koush's ClockworkMod recovery to use his CyanogenMod ROM, you can get practically the same thing without going through all that work.
Arctu created the HelixLauncher, which is just a regular launcher with the same capabilities as his launcher2 (a.k.a. docking icons) minus the 2.1 launcher features (e.g., 3d app drawer). Definitely worth checking out if you've seen/used his launcher2. It's incredible.
I personally haven't used HelixLauncher as I have Koush's CM ROM, but I would definitely check this out if I didn't.
Alright, HelixLauncher is based on android Launcher git and is heavily modified to resemble my Launcher2 mod. I've even backported some features from Launcher2 ... Previews!
HelixLauncher features:
Based on Launcher
Standalone Launcher
Should support hdpi & mdpi resolutions (not fully tested)
Sense UI-like scrolling / Velocity Scrolling
Enabled rotation
Double Tap action for Screen Previews
SPEEDY!
Up to 7 screens!
Full-screen app menu (with notification bar still)
Quick Shortcuts! - Drag & Drop and shortcuts to the QuickBar

Donations
Donations are always welcome if you wish to show me some love. Link is at my sig.
Donator's will get access to a special repository to gain early access on my releases - beta etc.
Using it, LOVE IT, will keep it from now on. Fast, just enough screens (I like 4), quick icons along the bottom, my replacement for dxtop is here I think.
Dropped HelixLauncher 1.1 in donators' repo:
Fixed Double-Tap bug by reducing sensitivity
Added LWP interactivity
Added Nexus Launcher2 Handle instead of Droid dull's
*Might fixed* the bug with some people unable to install

BEWARE!!!
Make sure that you uninstall V1 before you apply the 1.1b from the market. I did a simple update from the market like any other app and when a returned to my home screen it FC in a loop. I couldn't even power off the phone I had to do a battery pull. When it returned the same behavior continued.... Luckily I had done a Nandroid last night late and I was able to revert.
Also... you will need to resetup ALL of your screens.
p.s. It's now in the market. Currently, the newest version is v1.1b. Download it and give it a shot! There's not much to look at. The tab looks like the one from launcher2 and there are 4 slots (invisible) that you can dock shortcuts to.

i had this problem. instead, you can just use adb rm app/data/...
I am noticing that it is sometimes slow when going back to the home screen. Either it slides slowly, or sometimes "redraws" the icons, like a slow windows.

I haven't experienced this and I have a lot of widgets.
EDIT: Went into a FC loop with HL2. Trying HL1 now.
BTW, if you go into a FC loop, you don't have to pull a battery (if you didn't set HL2 as default). Just hit home again before it crashes and it'll pop up the "choose default" option. Then hit home again and select it.
EDIT: HL1 is working fine for me. Think I'll stick with that one. I love the docking!

HL 2 FC Loops me.
HL 1 shows the "dots" on the bottom, which I don't want. But it DOES allow better cut icons.
Was the non-dots version older?
Edit: i see that I had D/L'd version 1.0, the one on the market is 1.2.
Ah so.

The new HL 1.1 and above do... yes.
If your running a rooted phone with a 2.1 ROM restored to it then yes... you most likely have LWP already as an option.... however if your looking for download options because your expanding your repertoire... then Pete has some at his V.0.8 offering here: [ROM] Bugless Beast V0.8 ESE53 STABLE
EDIT: as far as I know you have to be rooted and running a LW capable ROM... these wont work on the stock 2.0.1.
I just downloaded and installed this launcher. So far so good. I am able to use BetterCut, AppsOrganizer, and Folder Organizer without an issue. I'm running stock 2.0.1 setup, never rooted my phone, and after trying every single home replacement option out there including the various pre releases of other 2.1 launchers. Every one of them gave me any combination of problems including epic lag on the phone and countless force closes.
So far so good with this one, and I like the option of placing the shortcuts down on the launcher and still being able to use all my other addons. I'll keep an eye on it and see how it works but initial results are definitely positive.
Ok I finally got it. Now how do you change the settings?!
EDIT: Wow I'm an idiot, disregard this dumb waste of a post.
Trust me, you weren't the first and won't be the last to wonder this.
menu softkey > configure
So i decided to give it a try today. I'm impressed. So far no lag, FC, or reloading of home screens. love the fact that i can pin the browser car home contacts and messaging (or any other app) to the very bottom and they dont waste screen real estate.First of any launcher that i can stand to use.
