Default Cyanogen 5.0.4.2 - Themed - SPRecovery Compatible

UPDATED 3/21/10 5:10am EST
***Stock theme version added***
***NexTheme version added***

Hey Everyone,

There is a lot of talk about Cyanogen but it is my sense that many of you are cautious about switching away from the only recovery image that you have known. I understand it...I was there too (for about a minute). There are updates coming for Cyanogen (5.0.5) and today I played with the test build...not ready for release yet. So, I was already in a "Cyanogen" mood...this is what I did...

Here is a link to download a fully functional build of Cyanogen 5.0.4.2 that I have themed with HexFusion and then reverted it back to a SPRecovery backup.

This is an overclocked kernel but SetCPU is not included...I pinned AndExplorer (free app from the market) to the system so you instantly have a file explorer (and metamorph requires it to run ).

All credit goes to Koush for the ROM
- PMilzie for the HexFusion Theme
- Haxzamatic & Manup456 for the NexTheme.

I did nothing but put this ROM together in a package that you could use with an acceptable level of comfort. I'm not a dev...I won't take request (okay...any more request lol)...I'm not responsible for you messing up your phone, etc.

If you love it the ROM or themes or both...donate a buck or two to the actual creators.

Koush's ROM link - Cyanogenmod For Droid V5.0.4.2 (03/12/2010) - CyanogenMod Forum

PMilzie's Theme link - [Mm Theme] Hexfusion_Helixlauncher And Helixlauncher2 - CyanogenMod Forum

NexTheme link (credit Haxzamatic & Manup456) - Nextheme V1.9R5 - Cm Droid V5.0.4 - CyanogenMod Forum

To install these SPRecovery compatible, Nandroid backups:
- Download one of the ROMs below
- Unzip the file and place the containing folder in the nandroid folder on your sdcard.
- Reboot into recovery
- Format data and cache inside SPRecovery
- Perform Advanced Backup (select the Cyanogen backup listed above)
- Reboot and Enjoy

Here are some screen shots for you (note, I reset these to factory default so the screens will be offset). It comes with 7 screens and you can scale this back if you like (make sure you remove icons from the screen before you do this )

You will get the little green droid and be asked to sign into your google account when you first boot it up.

Added - Stock Theme (if you theme this via Metamorph...make sure you choose a Cyanogen compatible theme - Not ERE23, ESE53, etc.)

Added - NexTheme

Go for it! UBR has made it so easy for you there is nothing to lose. I know 5.05 is right around the corner but this great running setup is available now. I am really starting to like Clockwork Recovery (the recent updates have added some great features) but UBR's work should take away anyones hesitation.

You can find the Low Voltage AdamZ kernels here. It has been ported over so it works with the Cyanogen ROM. I don't know if not having Clockwork Recovery will affect anything...that's why I didn't include it. I have used these kernels with Cyanogen and it worked fine.

EDIT: Old link was incorrect...new link below is the Adamz Low Voltage kernel for Cyanogen...Thanks DroidSuks for catching that!

Did you put SetCPU on it and turn it up to 1Ghz? Honestly, it ran a little slow for me too the first day or so...then it seemed like a switch turned on. Still not the fastest ROM.

My posting this was not to convince people that this is the greatest rom. I'm actually running BB 0.9 (I've themed it and put Helix2 on it to make it look like Cyanogen) but BB IS more refined. Cyanogen has a very large upside and hopefully future releases will capture that. I just wanted to give people who didn't want to swap recoveries to check it out if they wanted to (without having to theme it...cause I don't like the look of it "out of the box").

I have it at 800mhz now that's what I usually keep it for the most part. The theme is nice. Launcher2 is more stable I can actually get it to work lol, still FCs a couple times tho. SG is still my favorite, but I will def try 5.0.5, Apps2SD cmon lol. Thank you tho for making it easy for us who don't want the hassle of flashing recoveries to try this.

EDIT: Home launcher much better. Helix good too, but I like the "DROID" at the bottom of home.

EDIT2: just noticed the market won't open. Whenever click on it, it vanishes instantly.

Damn. I wish I could get market to do that. Every time I click it I wind up wasting more $$$ on apps

Give me a minute...I'll load this back up and look into the market issue. Are you getting your Gmail?

No, that's okay...I'm booting it up right now................

Well, I'm not sure what happened for you. I formatted data, cache and system via adb (while in recovery) prior to installing (I always do this when switching ROMS). I loaded the same file that I linked here, installed it, signed in...and Gmail, Market, and everything else seems to be working propertly.

Well, at least you got to see the ROM first hand. It does have it's quirks in this version but with this build, and JIT enabled, I was able to hit 15+ MFLOPS with 150's in SetCPU's short bench test, and 230's in the long test. Best scores I've ever had. Hopefully they will iron out the issues with 5.0.5. I'll try and do the same thing with that build.

Did you have any issues with JIT? When I was using ultimatedroid 6.5 pandora would always close on me, later I found out it was because of JIT.

That would be great if u could do that for 5.0.5! Thx man for ur help.

Yes, JIT gave me the same issues. It ran perfectly for almost 2 days so I thought I was in the clear. Then I was listening to Pandora as well and trying to respond to something here in the browser and the FC's started...I was bummed. The explanation I have heard is that the JIT we are using is rather old and has not been optimized (or an optimized version hasn't been released by Google). No ROM will be able to run JIT until we get a better version of the JIT...not the ROM.

I didn't see AdamZ kernel for Koush's ROM here.... I only see the P3Droid kernel... which is good but it doesn't have the OMAP optimizations for Temp Mon... so it doesn't work... that being said who knows if it is a LV kernel.. ... non the less it did run very well for me on Cyan 5.0.4.3 with JIT.

Low-Voltage Kernel - CyanogenMod Forum

Scroll to post six.... this has the link to the .rar file which contains the 2 files needed.... and the step by step via ADB to get it installed. I have it running now with no JIT and it's the typical AdamZ LV we've all come to love... stable, fast, and cool..

Non the less... good post UBR!!.. always nice to see efforts like this. Makes for a much greater learning experience. I installed Koush's update.zip via SPR, themed it and kernel'd it and fed it with love... I have to say... not taking the easy route and pushing CW in to do it for me has forced me to learn a lot... and I'm better for it.

Thanks for catching that...I edited my post with the new link. I did a quick search and grabbed what I thought was the right link...oops! That posts was actually the first "3rd party" kernel I used for this ROM and all I remember is FC's at 1.2GHz Adamz ran great at 1.1 GHz albeit, not as fast as with BB v0.9.

The first time I had installed this, I did the same thing...update.zip. I downloaded Clockwork and figured I'd dive in after playing with the ROM for about an hour. There were some themes that had to be applied via Clockwork...SPRecovery didn't play nicely with NexTheme...I tried. Figured I'd give people an "easy" sneak peak into Cyanogen...I love this ROM and it is only going to get better!

What does this offer over BB .8 or .9? I like the launcher2, but just like always it uses a ton of RAM. What in the CM ROM is better than BB?

Would it also be possible to upload a nandroid without the theme applied, I am not a fan of any of the blue themes, much prefer the stock Android green like Pete leaves in his SG patchers.

I really can't say what's better...there are differences.

The integrated Launcher2 works really well (not perfect...but pretty good and it's stable). While the home screen can be a little laggy at times (7 screens full of widgets will do that), I have had incredible benchmarks with JIT enabled. JIT is also more stable in the Cyanogen ROM than in any other ROM I have tried...but I leave it turned off cause JIT just has stability issues on it's own. There are other minor differences as well...remember that Cyanogen is based on the Nexus one...not the Droid. Apps2SD is not enabled in this release but it should be in future releases (I believe 5.0.5 will have it...that's a first). This is going to be on many more Droid phones in the near future... this is just a easy way to peek at what's to come. Cyanogen already has a ROM Manager app in the market, and Clockwork Recovery which is continuously improving. Is 5.0.4.2 better than Bugless? Maybe, maybe not...but it think it will be superior to every other ROM in the very near future.

Give me a few minutes on the uploads. I'll have the "stock" one up tonight. I am also going to put a couple of other themed versions up too.

Ok, cool. I did notice the better launcher in CM, it ran fairly quickly and didn't use as much RAM as Helix2, however I think I will be sticking with BB .8 for now.
