Default Cyanogen 5.0.5 SPRecovery Compatible

EDIT: From my post below, this seems like a better solution unless you just want the stock theme in SPRecovery format

Quote:
Well, I learned a bit doing this and I realized that having two different recoveries sucks...work this out people and get on the same page! ....but I'm done doing this...check this out:

Jrummy's Remix Rom Cyanmod 5.0.5-V0.1 (3-21-2010) - CyanogenMod Forum

ROM & Hacks & Theme....in SPRecovery's, Nandroid backup format...I'm downloading it now too cause that is just too nice of Mr. Jrummy @ the Cyanogen forum!
Screenshot

Here is my Original Post:
____________________

5.0.5 is out. Here is the SPRecovery version of Koush's Cyanogen ROM with the Stock Theme and one with NexTheme.

If you like the HexFusion or other Metamorph theme that is compatible with Koush's ROM, you can apply those yourself

The reason I have a NexTheme version is that it has to be applied in Clockwork Recovery...so to all my friends that are allergic Clockwork recovery...this is for you

All credit goes to Koush for the ROM & Haxzamatic & Manup456 for the NexTheme.

I did nothing but put this ROM together in a package that you could use with an acceptable level of comfort. I'm not a dev...I won't take request (okay...not any more request lol)...I'm not responsible for you messing up your phone, etc.

If you love it the ROM or themes or both...donate a buck or two to the actual creators.

Koush's ROM link - Cyanogenmod For Droid V5.0.5 (03/21/2010) - CyanogenMod Forum

NexTheme link (credit Haxzamatic & Manup456) - Nextheme V1.9R5 - Cm Droid V5.0.4 - CyanogenMod Forum
(this theme worked for 5.0.5...but there is an updated V2.0 coming...so I hear)

To install these SPRecovery compatible, Nandroid backups:
- Download one of the ROMs below
- Unzip the file and place the containing folder in the nandroid folder on your sdcard.
- Reboot into recovery
- Format data and cache inside SPRecovery
- Perform Advanced Backup (select the Cyanogen backup listed above)
- Reboot and Enjoy

STOCK THEME
MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service

NEXTHEME VERSION
MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service

I hope you do enjoy this...I've been bouncing from recovery to recovery A LOT in the past day or two...it's a PITA!

Hmmm.. I didn't want to go back to Koush's ROM, but since you put the effort into this I think I'm going to give it another chance to impress me.

Haha! Go for it. CRPercodani and myself were poking fun in the thread you started about Koush's ROM. I don't know if you saw our comments it but it was funny that your thread started the Cyanogen mania for many of us and then you were like..."eh...I'm going back to my old ROM" (or something like that)

If you are going from one Koush ROM to another, no. I would still recommend wiping data. ROMs always run better installed on a clean slate.

With this, you don't have to flash to Clockwork Recovery if you are on SPRecovery and don't want to bounce back and forth if you are using different ROMs. (Cyanogen in Clockwork Recovery, Everything else basically in SPRecovery).

I discovered that thread yesterday. I am waiting for a release in Clockwork format (just getting burnt out on switching back and forth).

Does this come with metamorph pre-installed? What is Clockwork format?

Clockwork is the recovery used with ROM manager that the Cyanogen releases are using (but are being converted to SB Recovery). As of now, the 2 methods are not compatible (but it is easy to switch back and forth). As far as I now the ROMs are already themed. You can get Metamorph for free in the market.

You are probably using SPRecovery 99.2b or 99.3b. These ROMs are simply converted from a recovery you don't use...to the one that your do use...Just to give you an easy way of trying Koush's Cyanogen ROM...It's really great IMO. Metamorph is not pre-installed (free from the market like shrink57 said). The first download link is an unthemed version of the ROM and the second link has a theme applied to the same ROM. Also, I have added a link at the top of my original post for a much more evolved version of what I've done...It's like BBv0.9 meets Cyanogen...nice.

I am giving this a go via the Nandroid backup method.

However, how does one flash a new kernel? I tried using SPRecovery and it totally FUBAR'd the phone. I've never seen so many FC's! LOL.

Do I need to go to the clockwork recovery to flash kernels? Will the other kernels work, just using the other recovery?

Thx.

This comes with a 1.0GHz Kernel but it is not that fast. I like AdamZ 1.1 kernel with this but it *HAS TO* be made specifically for Cyanogen to work. Also, I do believe that it has to be flashed in Clockwork to work...but I've never tried flashing a new kernel in SPRecovery.

You might want to give this a look:

Jrummy's Remix Rom Cyanmod 5.0.5-V0.1 (3-21-2010) - CyanogenMod Forum

There are options for a few different compatible kernels (but you have to use their theme...I don't think you can metamorph all of it away).

That's what I downloaded, and it was an Adam 1100 kernel. I wanted the low voltage 1000 one, so I tried loading that. LOL, that was funny.

Hmm, I'll give this a day or two and if I like it I will download the recovery and play.

Launcher is still really slow, at least on this version. Helix works much smoother.

I have noticed that about a couple of ROMS. Don't know why.

I did notice a reboot perked things up a bit, as well.

I also I gained 20 megs of available memory....

Yup, they are ragging him for putting a donation link in his post. I appreciate anyone that makes my life easier but it is a little tacky try to profit off others work.

No, it's using a modified version of the Desire theme. The screenshot at the top of this post is Jrummy's modified "remix".

This on??

Ah it has the same icons as NexTheme for the ones shown at least..

I do have one question, I thought I read where the Status Icon for the battery was not showing the #% in it, odes this one?

I downloaded the Jrummy AdamZ remix, might give it a go.. it adds pieces I would add myself. or i could do a Clockwork recovery on my phone and install NexTheme too..

Decisions, decisions, either way I will have to set everything up again!!

LOL

Yep, that's the one. The icons for the Desire theme and NexTheme are similar but the clock for instance, doesn't look like that in the NexTheme version.

Yeah, but I think I am going to stick with this ROM for awhile so the setup of this one wasn't so bad...knowing it probably is going to be at least semi-permanent.

UBRocked, so are you using Jrummy's remix? or did you Clockwork yours? I am almost tempted to clockwork and run a recovery on Pete's v0.8 that I am using.. then do Koush's install, this way if I want to switch back I could using Clockwork, without having to reinstall SPRecovery (but again, it is not THAT much to do)

I've been back and forth so much this weekend that I don't know what's on my phone at the moment!

I was running Clockwork but Jrummy released his flavor in SPRecovery format...so I flashed over and restored it. I honestly don't mind swapping back and forth (for normal usage...not 10 times a day). I have backups in both and it almost seems like having two different recovery apps. I just keep both images on my SD card and then I use adb...it's quick and easy.

With ROM booted up in "normal", phone mode lol, open CMD and type the following code (match your files actual version obviously)

Code:
adb shell
# flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-0.99.3b.img
or
Code:
adb shell
#flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-clockwork-1.7.5-sholes.img

you can do that from terminal emulator on the phone too right? that does make sense to do the the switching. So I how well did Jrummy's work? whose kernel did you use with it?

I need to just try it again and see if I like it..

Come on! This sounds like some DroidMod BS. Quit the crying Nancy! I appreciated what Jrummy did. He basically merged BB v0.9 with Koush's 5.0.5, and then he themed it, and put it in a different (more popular) recovery's format... Let him put up a link if he wants to...I don't see the problem. Is his contribution lesser than Koush's...sure...but it is still appreciated.

I just think he should have had a donate for Koush and Cyanogen before his own. Originally he had a donate link for himself and no one else. Other than that I dont have a problem. Like I said I think everyone went overboard and out of hand

You can use the updaters (DM updater for SPRecovery, and Rom Manager for Clockwork) and that is probably an easy way to switch if you are doing it every once in a while. When switching a lot...ADB is faster...it's always faster to do things with ADB in my opinion. I just wish I could remember more of the commands so I don't have to look stuff up so often

I agree with you...he should have had one for the devs. But there are other devs on Pete's "Thank you list" and no donation link (I know it's different cause he's the front man on "his" own ROM). I'm just saying...stop the drama! I couldn't stand it when I was 14...I sure in the hell can't stand it now.

Not the app, but adding that account to my list of accounts from the menu - so it picks up contacts, etc.

I hit "add account" it gives me 3 choices (corporate, FB, Google) I hit FB and it just goes back to the add account screen.

Okay, sorry for my confusion. Have you logged into the app? I never add an account that way so I am not really familiar with it. Having said that, I went into Accounts & Sync and found that my Facebook account is showing...All I did was sign into the app and select "sync all" from the Facebook settings menu.

I hope you do enjoy this...I've been bouncing from recovery to recovery A LOT in the past day or two...it's a PITA!
UBR, I just want to extend a very sincere "thank you" for uploading this via Nandroid backup. I really did not feel like flashing a new recovery. I flashed the themed version of 5.0.5 (quoted above) and I haven't had any bugs (SO FAR); tested all of my apps and they all seem to be working perfectly (SO FAR). The ONLY thing I've noticed is that every now and then my app launcher takes a few seconds to actually launch the apps but that's not much to complain about. Are you guys using the app launcher that comes with the ROM or are you using the Helix2 launcher?

Also, UBR, in the future when their are updates to Koush's ROM will you be uploading Nandroid and/or update.zip versions? I guess I've gotten spoiled to not having to flash different recoveries...

Thanks again!

Yeah, I'm using the app launcher...not the helix one. Helix is good but I feel like Launcher2 is better.

No problem. I can continue to do this if it's worthwhile to people. There are guys that are starting to theme this, add hacks, add scripts, and that is more than I will do...but if you want me to upload a stock and maybe a themed version in the future...I can do that like I've done here. I figure the nandroid formats will be compatible at some point...that would be nice

Just encountered my first bug and it's a major one.

Certain apps just will not open with this rom. I'm able to download them from the market onto my phone but when I attempt to open them I get an instant FC.

EDIT: I've only been able to find two apps with this problem and they both happen to be Quotation apps (i.e., inspirational quotes and things of that matter).

On another note, I can't get Wireless tethering to work for the life of me. I'm not sure if I need to download a newer apk file or if maybe I need to change some settings. I'm lost. Any suggestions?

I chickened out and flashed back to bb v0.8. Koush's 5.0.5 is awesome (I downloaded the NexTheme version) but just too quirky for me. I will be back once it gets ironed out a little more. But since Pete's 0.8 is so darn stable, I may just stick with it until the OTA update, unroot to get the update, and then worry about rooting laTer.

I've seem similar issues. I can't get Root Explorer to open...just force closes. I'm going to check the CyanogenMod site to see if others are reporting similar problems.

Wireless tethering is working though...don't know what the issue is...maybe your .apk, maybe the ROM...I'll see if I can find out.

Root Explorer is working for me...

I have not tried Wireless tether yet..

I let the phone charge to 100% and in the 30 min it has been off the charger, Battery Left is telling me 90% battery (system)

I will have it off the charger (dock) for another hour+ I can get 6 hours on BB v0.8 before the phone is at 80%, that is mostly idle, checking email and surfing a little bit, so I am trying to do the same thing with this set-up

I am wanting this to work, hope the battery life is good.. time will tell

Updated Root Explorer and the new version works fine. I guess some of the problems are due to permissions...but need more time to figure out what other apps aren't working. I enabled JIT just to see how the stability is...good luck right...haha!

BTW...I was a little unhappy with the slowness/bugginess of this ROM...I realized that I was running LWP's the whole time I have had it installed. Placed my default, static wallpaper on the phone...Ahhh...that's better. Phone is flying now...very fast and smooth. Just FYI

I find that with any ROM. As soon as I stray away for LWP everything runs cooler and faster with increased stability.
