[Release] Update to Baseband C_01.3E.03P
UPDATE - The file can now be found here:
http://mydroidfiles.com/downloads/basebandupdate.zip
OP
-----------------------------
That's right folks,
This was the goodie that I wanted from the OTA update the most, and now, thanks to
t3hSteve at Alldroid, it is available to us in update.zip form. Confirmed success with Clockwork recovery, and I have done it as well with SPRecovery 0.99.3b.
You
WILL be prompted to reactivate your phone, and also, re-enter your Google password.
Link:
Baseband results anyone? Bueller?
Screenshot:
Additionally , I would suggest you reenter your programming menu (dial ##PROGRAM) to change your vocode to EVRC-B.
The SPC password is 000000

It's a newer radio firmware. Should improve battery life, reception, fewer dropped calls, etc.
YMMV
You need to reactivate with Verizon and re-sign into Google, but you will not lose any apps, settings, contacts, homescreens, etc.

ROMs don't touch the baseband. It should stay there regardless of which ROM you install.

It's just an update.zip file, but it modifies the radio firmware, which is something most update.zip's do not.

Shouldn't really matter. I have mine set to home only.

Boot into Recovery and "install" update.zip (from download link). File will be blocked. Choose "allow," right?
Already ran a backup.

Yes to both. Clockwork does not require you to "allow", while SPRecovery does.

I don't know the exact changes implemented in this baseband, but users who flashed the ESE53 .sbf have reported better reception, faster call connection, bettery battery life, etc.
Give it a few days and see if you see any improvements from before.

I'm guessing an update.zip could be made for the old baseband as well, but currently, the only way would be by flashing the 2.0.1 .SBF file.

I should note that I had already set my Vocode to "EVRC-B" before this and the update set it back to default. So resetting it is mandatory unless you want it back to default.

Not seeing any better reception right now. Running DM1.0. Waiting the obligatory 15 minutes after activation and updated roaming capabilities.

Are you in a bad reception area to begin with?
I usually get like -65dB signal where I live, so I don't think I can get much better than that. I'm just looking for the (hopefully) better battery life.

thanks Fab! gonna give this a try....this file can be renamed to anything.zip since I'm installing thru Clockwork recovery ....doesn't have to be update.zip correct?
for some reason I'm always a little antsy about installing anything named "update"..not sure why....

OK, upgrade whore here, just applied it. I booted into recovery to apply it (clockwork) but could also have started the process from ROM Manger, right?
As noted, had to re-sign into gmail accounts, also had to re-sign into corporate email account (had a scary moment where calendar stopped syncing).
My System Select was and is set to "automatic" not "home."
I've never changed my vocode to EVRC-B - voice quality has always been great for me, haven't seen any reason to make a change.
Thanks for posting this, Fab, I had stopped watching that thread, and would have likely missed th3steve's post...

The closer the number is to zero, the better. But I think once it gets to the -50's, there's actually problems with the signal being
too strong.
But to put it this way, my Tour used to report -80dB as a perfect signal (in fact, it never went higher than that).
With my Droid, I've seen signals as high as -59dB. So Motorola did a good job with the radio in this phone

-90 for me, four bars, weather trending towards cloudy and then rain a day or so away.
I always have what I consider to be great voice quality (at least on my end) and no one has ever complained about how I sound.

I did it VIA clockwork this AM. I believe this is also in the Verizon OTA too.
it may not completely improve reception since the hardware with the phone is what you have, this may tweak the way it processes the signal, cleaning it and decrypting it etc.

Before: -103dbm and 1 bar (I work in a basement)
Downloading the update to my Droid now. It's taking a while with such poor signal. Hope it improves!
After: -103 and 3 bars.
I just reprogrammed it, so we'll see if it improves. Need to do the roaming thing too.

I tried dialing ##program (##7764726), but the number has been changed, been disconnected, or shot into space.
What am I doing wrong?
Nevermind. I'm an idiot. I was dialing ** instead of ##. Now I need an SPC password. Guess I'll do more research.

So . . . Did the radio update, when it went to activate, I had no dial pad. So I went to google, and found this:
http://www.dialabc.com/sound/generate/
Generated a 1, played it thru my speakers at the right time, and works.

I think I read somewhere some were having an issue with Gmail and a reboot did the trick.
Update: its been about half an hour and at the office I normally go between 1x and 2 bars, so far I have been on a solid 3-4 bars (never gotten that here). I know it will vary for everyone but it's definitely made a huge difference in my area! The real test will be tonight at home (1 bar only by the window and PC) I live in a cell death trap (4 stories of cement/steel hurricane walls)
