im running the smoked glass 4.5 and its not stable at all anymore...plus i have heard good things about the 2.1 update. so im pondering the idea of checking it out....now if i do this, will i be able to get wifi tethering on there at all? for free of course....

If your bored and or tired of what you have try something else... .that's the beauty of having a rooted phone. I guarentee to you that there's nothing the official OTA from Verizon that your not going to see on a multitude of custom ROMS out now. Matter of fact there's tons more.

wtf are you on about? lol. The "devs" have been working on 2.1 for at least 2 months now. Most of us have been running stable versions of rooted 2.1 for a minimum of 1 month. Perhaps you should check the "All things root" section, ehh?

It doesn't mean you've looked around at all. I mean, no offense... but you post in the root section with a comment like "cmon devs! lets get this goin!" about an app which has existed for literally MONTHS.
