Default Lazy Man's Movie Installation Guide for Droid (How-To)

Ok so I have learned a couple things the last few days I would like to share with all the other newbs if possible.
First, I realized that in my quest to add movies that downloading a File Management App is completely unnecessary. It only seemed to create a lot of useless files for me and further confuse my newbliness. So it was uninstalled.
Second, this is MUCH easier than I was thinking so here it is......
Lazy Man's Movie Installation Guide for Droid (How-To)
1. Create a new folder on your computer desktop called "Movies" or whatever you want to call it.
2.Download movies that you would like to see in mp4 format and save them to the folder you just created. Here is the lazy part.....There happens to be 1 particular thread on Crackberry.com that has links to hundreds of new and late release movies already in mp4 format! I will give the link to that thread here.......My first movies post... - BlackBerry Forums at CrackBerry.com
3. Connect your USB cable that came with your phone from the phone to your computer and you will get a notice on your phone. Pull down the notification bar on your phone and press the USB notice.
4. Select MOUNT your device. Wait a few seconds. This will pull up a window on your desktop that shows what is currently on your SD card. (I think it is just a Picture folder and Media folder, cant remember. If the window doesnt pull up, just pull it up manually with START>MY COMPUTER>AND WHATEVER DRIVE YOUR SD CARD SHOWS UP AS.
5. Open your new "Movies" folder and just drag your new media over to the already existing Video folder on your SD, OR you can create another new "Movie" folder on your desktop and drag that over first and then transfer your movies over to it. The options are limitless.
6. When your done, pull down the Notification Bar on your phone and press Disconnect USB. It will then say it is preparing your SD. Disconnet the actuall USB cable and.....
7. Click on Gallery on your phones Application menu and go into your new "Movie" folder and ENJOY!
*DISCLAIMER*-Its up to you what you do with the link provided above! All I can say is EVERY movie I have pulled from it thus far has been nothing short of SPECTACULAR on my Droid. They are all already in the right format and good to go! Hope this helps!

Moved it to right section. Not bad should add a part about converting with handbrake.

Feel free to explain the handbrake stuff to me and I will add it on! LOL, I havent had the need to figure it out yet since I figured this out. Every movie I had wanted, I have found in that thread. I joined crackberry.com just so I could search that particular thread! There are WAY more movies in that thread than just what you see on the first couple pages! And all so far, formatted nicely in mp4 form.

Glad I helped somebody zebroid1. Lord knows I needed it!

I also think this thread would be more help to newbs than the one that is currently sticky'd on the Droid page. Movies on your Droid or whatever its called. That one had me all kinds of confused, but maybe its just me. As soon as I figure out, or need the handbrake stuff, I will dumb it down to where I understand it and add it to the top of the thread.

Great find, Thanks!
I grabbed a couple of movies from your source and they look pretty good on my Ipod touch (I don't have a droid yet...... but I will soon) They're a little fuzzy looking on my computer so I wonder what the resolution is. Since the droid has such a hi-res screen, I'll be looking for better settings to use when converting myself using Handbrake. Once I get my phone, I'll experiment to get the best resolution- unless someone else perfects it first and posts here...

I know that link has a disclaimer and I don't want to be a party pooper but that is piracy.

And downloading from file sharing services can have dangers.

The resolution on my Droid as is, is awesome. I'm sure you could maybe tighten it up just a bit, but I honestly dont know how much better it could get. It looks like its in HD on my Droid. And Your Welcome.

As far as the downloading of the movie goes I'm not sure on the law, but as long as you are not SHARING the file with anyone else, I think only the guy originally posting the rip would go down. So, for me, I'm just getting while the gettin is good. That thread has been around a while so I'm guessing its not going away soon.
Also, If anyone was pulling viruses with these files they would be letting the mods know and that file would be pulled off the thread. An easy fix if your paranoid would just be to scan the file. No worries! I will let you know when I come across one with a virus! LOL

I gotta try... I'm a damn perfectionist.

I'll try your source on the droid first tho... can't wait to get one and try it out.

awesome find and thanks. I downloaded The Dark Knight and played it on the Droid last night. Quality is decent not great. One question - could I convert it somehow to fill the entire screen on the Droid?

Looks like the quality of films can vary considerably from megaupload- I DL'd The Simpsons Movie and it was a "camcorder job" filmed in a movie theater.

yeah, I have noticed a couple of those. that was one of the things i like about the second link I put up there ^ a couple posts back. He actually went as far as letting you know if it was a camera job, by putting (CAM) at the end of the link. Still, on the whole, I've downloaded about 15 movies and only come across maybe 2 camera jobs I think. All in all, nothing i will complain about. Hope ya'll are having the same luck!!!

I'm pretty sure you can do it with handbrake. I'm no expert on that yet though, as I have been very lucky with my favorite films on that thread. One quick thing though, if you search that thread there are sometimes more than one link for the same movie. Might help you if the first one you find was a camera job. Like I said above though, there are a lot less of those than there are exceptionally good ones!

I just remembered, there is also an app called ACT 1, I think, that will allow you to stretch movies in mp4 format to fill the "entire" screen. Dont quote me on it, but I read it somewhere earlier. If you try it let us know. I may try it myself soon.

Im looking around for ya buddy, but I am having a hell of a time finding a good copy of that movie that is scaled right. There is a really good one on the thread that wont work on our phone because of the scale i think. I'm still looking for ya.

Pulp fiction is great! Dagger is cropped for some reason and doesn't fill the whole screen which kinda sucks.

I just DL'd Snatch too. It's cropped as well, but the picture is so good I didnt care. I'm lovin it. I'm still looking for an app everyone likes to stretch these to full screen. Act 1 didnt have stellar reviews across the board, so the search continues.

Don't worry about finding a better Simpsons... It's one of those films I'll watch once and not again anyway, thanks though.

Snatch was the first one I grabbed- looks great on my ipod...(did I mention I don't have a droid yet?........)

interesting: I started pulp fiction and let it run... when i came back, i noticed the sound and video was not synched properly, at the restaurant scene, no problem. However the talk about amsterdam in the car, voice doesn't match the video... I wasn't sure if that was because i was using "aPlayer" or because i had too many apps running in the background... or maybe a bad encoding of the movie.

anyone have experience with this issue? what player are u using to read ur media files?
can anyone suggest a movie that they know for sure has been well encoded, is good quality, and runs on their droid? that may give us a reference point to compare our individual droids...

also, the play of the movie isn't 100% smooth... it breaks up here and there... not sure why... playin the movie right now to see if it continues... yup, still does it once in a while...

anyone else?

For a handbrake tutorial check the 1st post of the Put Videos on Droid topic.

Nice post, but yes it is piracy unless you own the dvd then your walking on a gray line.

No, that's not normal. Do you have USB2.0 ports?

Transfer speeds to the SD card are ~6MB/s for me, so a 700mb movie file should take 2 mins to transfer...

You mean to DL from megaupload? Yeah it takes awhile if you do the free DL.
Copying to your phone SD should be quick though.

I run into that issue every now and then if i pause a movie and then come back later. The easy fix for me is just tap the rewind a couple of times and it syncs back up. A very small pain but seems to work every time. Hope it works for ya.

Are you downloading the movie straight into your Droid? Or transfering it from a file on your PC after you have already downloaded it? If you are using the free option to download,(depending on your DL speeds), 15-30 minutes is normal. Transferring the file to your Droid should only take a couple minutes. I would say just to pick all your movies and DL them on a file on your desktop first. That way you dont have to have your phone mounted for so long.

Is it possible to download the movies with the droid? I tried and wasnt successful. It took a while to enter in the code to enable the download (the browser seems kinda buggy to me). I then spent a minute or so waiting for a data connection before transitioning to the downloading screen which lasted about 30 seconds before I got a message saying the file format wasnt supported.

Er, NO. It's copyright infringement either way. Both ends of the transaction are illegal.

Think of it as stealing and receiving stolen goods- both are illegal.

100% True...A few notes though...

Generally law enforcement goes after the uploaders (though there have been exceptions). Please keep in mind, that this is currently the case. Tomorrow, the IP (Intellectual Property) holders or law enforcement COULD decide to go after downloaders. You would have ZERO protection if they decided to do this EXCEPT...

***HUGE GREY AREA CONCERNING THE LAW***
If you already OWN the movie (be it on VHS, DVD, etc), with the Fair Use Act, you MAY have SOME legal ground.

That said, Ripping a DVD and converting it with Handbrake (or whatever) is ALSO ILLEGAL. Why? Fair Use should make it fine right? Nope. There is another Law that makes it illegal to circumvent a media's copyright protection (meaning the protection on a DVD). So it's not technically illegal to make a backup, but to make the backup, you break the law by breaking the encryption (crazy I know)...

I'll not give my opinions on either side of the piracy debate, I just wanted to clarify things...

Lastly, the reason many movies have bars or "boxes" around them, is they are meant for Iphones/Blackberries/other Android phone's screen resolutions. The Droid has close to double the resolution, which is why you are seeing black areas around the movies...

I too tried downloading directly from droid browser with no luck. I think it must be something with megaupload.

I just dl a movie from the droid and it is on the phone. The thing i noticed is that it came with a .txt extension so i changed it to .mp4. It still did not play back on the phone. Not sure why.
It does play on my pc.

Any ideas.

Does it need to be mpg or avi or something other than mp4 i thought m peg 4 was a supported format.

Default No luck

I must be doing something wrong. I have a macbook and downloaded the movies from mega... when I tried to drag the movies onto the droid icon I got a notification that said "error 36" and it said the file was missing some information or not formatted correctly.

Err ok.... I'm going to do my rendition of "Lazy Man's Movie Installation Guide".... ready?

Step 1. Pick up your phone and go to imp4movies.com.
Step 2. Download.
Step 3. Watch.

w00t! Sorry, I take lazy to an extreme!!! Now now... I know what you're thinking... what if I have this giant avi file already and I want to watch that?? Well.. ok..

Step 1. Download doubletwist and add the movie to it's library.
Step 2. Hook up your phone.
Step 3. Drag and drop the movie from DT's library to phone and allow it to sync.
Step 4. Watch movie on phone.

Doubletwist detects the phone, already knows the video format, size, etc.. of the phone and converts it to play on the phone.

Why ALL these steps for such a simple process?

I use dvdfab and I can convert it to nething. Psp format iphone, ipod, but no droid. but lucky enough ipod is the same format. This program lets you do nething with the movie. Remove the features in the beginning and just do the main movie. I believe that they have a trial or a free version.

actually if you own the movie, you can download a copy of it. It would then count as a backup. For someone like me, who owns hundreds of DVD's, but doesn't know thing one about ripping, it's fantastic.
