Default Videos on Droid: ImToo users, device profile

If any of you own Windows based "ImToo DVD Ripper", I have found a way to get the output to work at 854x480. Pretty nicely too, based on the two DVD's I have done.

This involves the existing profiles for Ipod, Zune, HD, etc.
Select the "HD MPEG4" profile, set the max bitrate at 10,000, and save it as a user-defined profile named "Droid".
Look in the ImToo driectory and open the "Profile\user\Droid.pf" file using Notepad. Change the s=0 line to read" "s=0, "", "854x480", 1, {"Auto", "848x480", "854x480", "720x480"}". Save it.

Reopen the program and you can now save standard DVD's as MP4's that fit the full width and look pretty good. I figured having the option of 848x480 and 720x480 would be helpful....maybe.
Try the different "Zoom" settings, depending on the source format....you can test them in the built-in viewer.

I can now go straight from DVD to Droid in one pass.
I hope this helps someone besides myself.

You may want to change the first few lines to read as follows, so the "Droid" designation appears everywhere you see this profile. Not required, but it is less confusing.
Name=Droid
SName=Droid
Format=mp4
ExtName=mp4
Desc=Droid MPEG4 Video File.

Thank you, sir!

I dropped the rate down to 1000 bits and this yielded a file size of 1.36Gig for the full Letterbox version(standard DVD) of The Postman. It is truly amazing to watch this movie on my little phone.....and the resolution is spectacular. I could actually read every word of the credits as they smoothly scrolled past.

I am ripping an 800-bit version as I type this to see if I can get closer to 1-Gig file size and still have good video. This is not exactly a short film.

BTW......
This makes FULL use of the screens width, though I prefer letterbox so there is a bar at the top and bottom. If you desire you can change the zoom factor and use every pixel you own.

How I convert videos for the Droid

Handbrake - Freeware - HandBrake

Video Conversion process for Droid

1. Select your source
2. Select your destination output
3. Right hand column select Iphone legacy
4. Under Video tab select H.264 as the "Video Codec", also under output settings chose MP4.
5. Personally I have been using 1200kbps as an average bitrate with great results.
6. Under Advanced tab change reference frames to 1, Subpixel Motion Estimation to 8
7. Click "Start" and your video will encode.

I have had great results with these settings above using that freeware program.

Any comments are appreciated!

I tried Handbrake on my Windows PC and I believe it will not rip DVD's under this OS.
This is why I posted info on using ImToo with the Droid.

There is a long thread dedicated to conversion with most people using Handbrake and sharing settings for it.

After a bunch of fooling around with settings, I came up with a complete profile that works pretty well.
Paste this entire text(the part in bold), replacing the entire text in your current Droid profile.
It gives you a choice of resolution, video codec(both codecs work), frame rates, and video and audio rates....each with a default that works pretty well for good video with fairly small size. It is not yet perfect; if anyone can improve on these settings, list the improvements here.
