As it sits, my droid lists my applications in alphabetic order. Any way to change the order of the apps in the pull down screen?

To the best of my knowledge, there is no way to change the order of the applications in the default pulldown menu.

There are a couple of market apps that MIGHT get around your organizational problem, depending on what exactly you are trying to accomplish.

"GDE" (search "GDE -theme") is what I finally used to solve my massive organization problem. It's a home screen replacement app like aHome, BUT it also changes the behavior of the app menu. It adds an extra level to the home screen menu, so I immediately see a list of 6 folders AND the defaul app menu. I simply categorized my apps in the folders (games, utilities, business, random, etc). Its one extra tap (menu, then tap the folder you want to bring up), but its easier than fishing through the big app list!
