Default create complete backup image? newbie question

So I have a moto droid, rooted with droid mod.
Basically, I really like the way my phone is set up right now, and I am looking for a way to back up my entire phone.
I want to basically create my own custom rom, and be able to just drop it on my phone (as an update.zip) and boot from it to flash my rom whenever I need to.

Any ideas? Details would be helpful

To create a comeplete system image boot into recovery (while powering up hold x+power button). go down to the option backup/restore> go to advanced nandroid backup> make sure all the options have a star next to them. Set a backup name if you want. then click perform backup. You now have a complete system image backup.
