Default My Droid just died

Peeps,

I was using my Droid heavily this weekend. Used Google Navigation a bunch. It crashed 2x on me in downtown DC. Ugh. Well later in the weekend the screen when blank. The buttons would buzz and I was able to play a video (probably from youtube) because I heard something, but screen was still black.

-I've already tried removing the battery.. now it is dead as dead can be.
- I've plugged it in and had it charging for about 9 hours. The light on the side shows it's getting power, but no signs of life.
- Tried holding down the X and power button (saw that in a post somewhere) to reboot, but nothing.

If I don't see a solution on the interwebs, I be on my way to returning it tomorrow for a replacement.

Anyone have a clue what I can do to bring this machine back to life?

Thanks in advance for any of your ideas.

Try leaving the battery out for about 2 to 5 minutes before replacing. I'd bet that it won't do anything but ensuring that its totally powered off and drained all charge elements is always a good practice. You should also try and hold the power button for a few seconds while the battery is removed.

Default This happened to me too.

Hey,
This actually happened to me too. Within three days the Droid was completely dead. Took out the battery, nothing, left it charging for a few hours, nothing. I did see the small white light on the side of the phone which indicated it was receiving power but it would not turn on.

I took it to the Verizon store and they replaced the battery. Once the battery was replaced I used the phone for about 20 minutes and noticed that the battery was getting used up extremely quickly. I plugged it in to charge it and sure enough, dead again.

I ended up having to replace the phone itself.

Do you have any home screen apps installed? I had some conflicts with widgets that made my droid go crazy. Turn off the phone and hold down the gold center key on the dpad as it boots up. When you feel a long buzz you can let go and it will boot into safe mode. See if that works and turn off all home screen apps and widgets then reboot.

Not uncommon Red Eye of Death. Only solution is to hold atl and X then hold down the power button until you see a factory reset screen then dpad down until you get to the yes reset phone option.

Mine just died too. Was working fine when I went to bed last night and I woke up to a dead phone. Tied a 5 minute battery pull, no go. Have the charger in now and the charging LED is on, but nothing is happening when I try to power it on.

If I bought it online, should I be able to go into a VZW store and exchange it there?

Craighwk - I have that same question. I returned mine to Bestbuy and they exchanged it, but what if it happens again?

I'd hope it would be a rolling 30 day window on a new phone.

In other news, my Droid just randomly sprung to life after being plugged in for 2 hours. I don't know what the heck happened, but it looks like something killed my battery over night.

WHEW.

yeah, you'd think so, wouldn't you? unfortunately, when i went to exchange my droid yesterday (w/ screen responsiveness issues), two, three days from the 30-day deadline, i was told that i'd only have the remaining two or three day to test out the new phone.

that's crazy ... i mean i can understand that they don't want people doing this ad infinitum, but c'mon.

anyway, i decided to cancel the purchase and buy a new one at a different shop (which i'm on way to do now).

Yes.... I was having the same problem. After having it plugged in for about 2 and a half hours, it sprung to life. It was great last night, then when I tried turning it on this morning it was dead. Plugged it in, the light on the side was on, but did nothing. 2 1/2 hours later, it turned on and was at 5% battery life! Another hour later, it just got up to 10%. It took 2 hours to get to 20%, I unplugged it to see if a battery drain would possibly fix it, it died in 20 minutes. I then rooted it, and it works great! Took the regular time to recharge, and all is good. Take that Verizon!

Just out of curiosity, how do you guys figure out all of these hidden boot-up options? I was always confused about that since DFU mode on the iPhone/iPod Touch. I couldn't enable that mode half the time when I WANTED to, so I know nobody found out about it by accident. Hell, there were numerous guides and Youtube videos online about how to get into that mode. Where do you guys figure out what to do?

Hope that doesn't happen to mine! This has to be a fairly rare occurrence. Maybe a bad batch of phone came out or something?

this just happened to me right now, but not as bad. my battery is at 70% and i left it on my desk. when i checked my phone, i clicked the unlock button and the screen would not turn on. i opened the keyboard and screen still did not turn on. i long pressed the power button and still nothing happened. fortunately, when i took out the battery and placed it in again, it booted up. first time i've ever had a phone sorta crap out like that on me before. anyone else face this? if so, what would you suggest?

I didn't try alt X and power. If it happens again I will do that. I took the phone to the VZW store the next morning. I explained what happened and they just replaced it. No questions. All is well...

I just had the same deal tonight. Working fine one minute. Put in my pocket, took out 5 minutes later, then nothing. Went through same steps as you, and removing battery allowed it to start up again.

Once it started up, seemed like the (back, menu, etc) buttons weren't lighting up at first, even when launching a couple of apps. After a few minutes, they finally came on. Odd.

Worries me.

What happens if this thing dies after 30 day window? Are we SOL?

Hi Droid Fans,
My Droid Screen died just after filming a few minutes of a movie that some friends and I are making. I thought maybe it was the cold, it was 57 degrees, with a wind chill of 40 degrees or lower. However, later, around midnight, I read the forum and decided to take my battery out. I left it out for 45 seconds. Afterwards, I put it back in and fortunately, it rebooted! Yeehaw! Thanks guys for suggesting that!

Default Droid 2 is really problematic

I've never had this much trouble with a phone.

For anyone considering buying it.. don't.
