The way I know of cache clearing is BEFORE you remove a given app.

From homescreen:
Menu, Setting, Apllications, Manage Apps, open the desired app and hit clear cache, you can also uninstall here.

If it is a default app and you wish to clear cache, while ur in manage applications screen hit menu again, filter, all.

seems as though there is an app or two for this. Try it out and let us know what you think.

Here is my post from another thread about this same thing.

Quote:
There is an app that says it will do this. I cant recomend it as I have and will not use it. I dont want an app having that much control over the phone.

I have 150+ apps so I know it can take some time. Just write down which ones you find with cache and every few days pull out the list and do some clearing.
Here are my results from just tonight.

Quote:
Here is my before and after on a G1 rooted.

Before Cache Clear
SD Card
total 4.99GB
Aval. 4.42GB

Sec SD card
total 2.38GB
Aval. 2.13GB (this is where my apps are stored instead of phone)

Internal Space
43.61MB

Apps I cleared and amount space cleared.
Browser 8.30 MB
Cestos 44 KB
Gmail 284 KB
Market 1.6 MB

Afte Clear Chache
SD Card
total 4.99GB
Aval. 4.42GB

Sec SD card
total 2.38GB
Aval. 2.13GB (this is where my apps are stored instead of phone)

Internal Space
54.63MB

That is 11.02MB of more space, by just clearing 4 apps.

That is alot of space on limited space devices.

I only cleared the ones I knew would have some cache from todays use. You will have to check your own apps to see which ones need it. I recomend writting them down so you can do it faster next time. After a few times you will remember the ones you need to clear the most.

There is but you need root access in order for it to work.

Slightly OT - but how does one get a second MicroSD card into the phone?

Just a cautionary heads-up, and I'd love for this to just be coincidence, but...

Last night I set my morning alarm for 9:00, and put my droid on the multimedia station. Then I remembered what I had read online last night about the cache clearing strategy in order to speed things up a bit. My phone has been sluggish lately opening Messaging and Contacts, and thought "what the heck, may as well give it a try."

After clearing the cache, I noticed significant speed results immediately. I placed my phone in the Multimedia station, and went to sleep.

At around 11:30am, I woke up naturally. In fact, I thought I was having a nightmare, that I still had my WinMo phone (). I reach over to my droid, and turn on the screen. Though my digital clock widget said 11:30, my system clock in the notifications bar said 8:32am. I checked my alarms, and they were still checked off for 9:00am. I also had one email, which I read and archived, but the notification icon would not go away. I ended up soft-resetting the phone.

When it rebooted, my alarms were all unchecked, and I had 7 new emails. The clocks both had the proper time. And the speed boost from clearing the cache is still present.

I'm hoping that this was a freak accident, but if anyone knows what I did to cause this, please share. Thanks, and be careful!

For the record, I cleared the cache of every app that had one, and I did it manually, not through an app.

I use CacheMate to clear and I also use Titanium Backup to clear Dalvik cache - I am rooted and both are root apps.

Phone feels "clean" when you are done.

App to SD
A feature of many custom ROMs and I think you can get market apps to do so.

CacheCleaner by L. Sartory is a great one-click solution for cleaning all caches. I'd prefer it to list the caches it's cleaning, but it's still pretty good. Saves me between 8-11MB each time I use it. And it's free.
