Default why does android keep erasing my pics and videos?

Sorry if this has been asked many times, but I'm on my phone with a crappy signal, and am not able to search more than I have. The only major topics related to this that I found were from 2009 and early 2010 which didn't give me any resolution.

This is the second time I noticed this happening. Last time was like a year ago. Don't remember ever finding a solution back then either.

I had probably over 50-100 pictures and videos taken with my droid, and I just looked and only maybe 9 were there.

So something keeps really deleting a lot of them. I don't use any photo gallery app or anything besides the one that comes with android.

Someone in a topic I foundaround 2009 said it was because android uses linux, so we have to UNMOUNT the phone instead od just unplugging it from computer because that makes us lose data, which I'm not too sure about because I haven't noticed other files being deleted In mass quanities.

Someone else stated that they called verizon and verizon said they needed to dial *228 and option 3 to update something, and reboot the phone which restored all their pics, but there isn't a third option when I dial it.

Does anyone know what causes this? I'm scared to keep taking pic with my phone if they are just going tp magically be deleted.

Are you sure they're deleted? Besides checking the gallery on your phone, you used another file explorer (or your PC when mounted via USB) to browse through the /DCIM/Camera directory to verify they're actually missing?

I haven't had this issue in the last 16 months of having my Droid. It is possible that if you're not un-mounting the SD card (in the notification menu) before disconnecting the phone from a PC, that it will cause data loss. This risk isn't limited to just the Android OS, it can happen no matter what device or OS you're using, including PCs and external drives. If anything, I wouldn't blame the software/OS, I would look at the hardware and user habits (i.e. safely un-mounting the SD card) first.
