Default Phone says I'm short on space, SD card says otherwise.

As stated in the title, my phone says I am low on space (to the point that I have been having trouble with app updates) and my SD card says there is more than 10 GB still available.

When I backed up the SD card on my computers, it confirmed that there is only about 5 gigs of data on the card.

This is on an original Droid.

Any help is appreciated.

The warning your phone is giving you is for the internal phone memory. This is different than SD memory and much smaller, under 1gig if I remember right.

256MB on the Droid.

As always, don't forget that cache and data for apps also use up internal storage. It's not just the apps.

With that said, I assume that if I were to get a phone with more internal memory, it would help me remedy my situation with apps that refuse to go on my SD card?

Yeah, that would work, but more of a short term fix... Clear out the cache of the apps (Setting-Application-Manage Applications). Clear out anything that you can.

Clean up your SMS and MMS messages. These are also stored on your internal phone storage. I know this cleared up 10 MB on my phones.

Go through the apps, delete the ones you don't use very often. If it is a paid app, you can always reinstall at a later date for no additional charge.
