Question CRAZY Behavior After Verizon Disconnected My Phone, Now Screen Won't Even Display Anything

I was using my phone for wired tether for several hours and when I disconnected my phone from my laptop and it was lagging horribly, so I rebooted it. After reboot the screen would freeze for about 30 seconds when transitioning between any windows or between landscape and portrait orientation. After a few minutes I called my voicemail and was immediately redirected to a message from Verizon saying my account has been suspended due to an unpaid bill.

My phone continued freezing up and lagging badly, and I think the disconnect was beginning to take effect because I could no longer send texts or make phone calls but I was still receiving them, and my internet and Facebook still functioned. Since it was lagging so badly, I tried rebooting again, and on reboot the phone's display never displayed anything at all. The backlight came on and the keyboard, bottom buttons, and notification lights all came on, and I could hear my notification tones, but I never saw a Motorola logo, no boot video, no lockscreen, nothing but a backlit black screen...

I've tried several battery pulls, including leaving the battery out overnight and trying again in the morning, and still the same results. So, I tried using RSD Lite to just wipe it and install a stock 2.0.1 .SBF file, but at 99% it failed. I'm not even sure it was ever in the proper mode to begin with though (connecting to computer, shutdown, and then reboot by pressing the Power button and Up on the D-pad) because I couldn't see my screen to shutdown in the first place (and while connected to the computer it automatically boots itself).

Is it possible that my root and custom ROM caused some crazy problems when Verizon attempted to disconnect it? Any ideas or suggestions to try? Is there any way to use SDK commands to shutdown the phone or perhaps reboot it into the proper mode needed by RSD?

Well obviously I would have paid it a month ago if I could, but change of jobs and other bills have put me in a tight spot.

My phone being disconnected shouldn't be causing my screen to not display though, should it? The Droid doesn't even have to be activated with a carrier to still be used with a wifi connection, as a music player, etc.

Update*

I was able to successfully flash the stock 2.0.1 SBF file using RSD Lite (it had failed twice before, then moving the SBF file to the root of C made it work), however, my display remains a backlit black screen
