Question Lost.dir

I am looking why my SD card on my Motorola DROID is so low on storage, and my LOST.DIR directory is over 2GB in size

Can I delete the files in there?

Default Lost.dir

The LOST.DIR folder can simply be deleted. It contain orphaned or corrupted files that are found when the phone does file system checks on the SD card when you boot up the phone.

Those orphaned/corrupt files could be important, you can use something like ES file explorer to open the files on phone, or use an application on the computer like unchk.
