Wow. After experiencing issue Friday here in Greenville NY, drove to the Kingston Verizon store. They said I had a rotten Droid 2 and ordered one overnight. Replacement arrived Saturday morning and had same issue, so called tech support. After 2 hours of troubleshooting still no resolution and they insisted it must be the phone. Received new replacement yesterday (Monday) afternoon and .....wait for it....same problem. Called tech support and they said I've been "struck by lighting twice" and said it must be the phone again!!! (Second replacement, third phone total with issue!!!).
Come on.....really?!? Is there no communication between departments at Verizon at all?
After going postal over the phone with Tech Support they are overnighting a new Droid 2 Global to replace Droid 2. Should be arriving within next hour or so.
But as with everyone else, it seems the GPS issue is now resolved. So, do I accept the new Droid 2 Global anyway? Not familiar with differences between the two, if there are any at all.
Suggestions?
Did you have to pay 50 for replacement? If not keep it.
What surprises me at this point is this blog is the ONLY place where this GPS nightmare was discussed. You would have thought with the phone exchanges and other inquiries that this topic would have wider interest in the Android community.
I have a Droid X1. GPS issues started a few days ago. Worked then stopped, then worked, then stopped.....again and again.
Tried all the so called fixes....
Even downgraded to froyo. Worked for a few minutes and stopped again. Then worked again. Then stopped again. WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Upgraded back to Gingerbread. Same freakin thing.
I'm sick of this BS! I know my phone GPS is working! Something is screwing it all up. I wish whoever is causing it would figure it out whether it is VZW or Google or whoever.
Update 3:35 eastern, now working again. We'll see how long it lasts this time.
3:45 NOT working.

I've been having trouble with the GPS on my Captivate for the past couple weeks. Today, it started working again. I did a number of things, any of which might've helped, for all I know. Here are some of the things I did:
- Used the GPS Status app to clear and re-download the A-GPS data
- Rebooted the phone without a SIM card in and tried to get a GPS lock
- Switched from MS Assisted to MS Based and back again
- Recalibrated the pitch, roll and compass usin GPS Status
Funny thing is, it was only after I did the pitch, roll and compass calibration that the GPS started working again. It had been next to useless an now it's getting a decent lock even indoors.
I wouldn't've thought the pitch, roll and compass sensors would figure into GPS calculations, though. May have just been a coincidence that that was the last thing I tried before things straightened themselves out. :-D
Well, I don't have a SIM to use, but I've done each of those multiple times and it doesn't seem to help. When it does work it's for about a minute or so then its back to not working.
When it does start to work though, Google Maps pegs my position within 2 seconds of opening it.
I've started a thread on it over in the Droid X forum under Support and Troubleshooting.

b.b.
+1 sometimes I think it just takes time to fill in since I'm guessing most of us don't use GPS every day, day in and out. I will say however that seems like I just so happened to have that perfect storm. Started the GPS running the morning we were traveling from Ohio to you guessed it, NY, 2 phones went on the blink about the same time. Tried all the typical things and nothing worked of course. Lasted for a few days while I was learning my way around Cooperstown area then all of a sudden back.
Big thanks for this thread. My gps quit on the Droid3 after having worked fine for a week. The fix in my case was shutdown, remove battery, reload battery, start up, then without opening any gps based app, download and run GPS Test by Mike Lockwood. Everything came alive after touching "Clear aiding data" and "Start". Then all other apps worked also.

i understand this thread is a couple months old, but i have been having issues with my gps for at least the last couple months. tried various roms, custom, bone stock, stock rooted. none of that helped. once in a while i would do a search for fixes and downloaded gps status(not really knowing what to do with it) gps test, and just this evening after REALLY reading through this thread i downloaded GPS Test and did the "CLear ading data"
well i finally got to the post quoted and used GPS status to calibrate the compass and the pitch/roll. to calibrate the pitch/roll i went with placing it on a flat surface and hitting the calbrate button, then turning it 180* and hitting the average button and i had a lock almost instantly. now all i have to do is step outside and i have a lock with my maps, or my strava app.
ive got high hopes, lets see how long this lasts!
