Default Contacts Gone After Sync?!

So my new Droid 3 came in the mail today, and I'm trying to sync everything over from my old Droid. The first thing I noticed was that none of my contacts appeared in the Droid 3. I looked in my old Droid and realized that I did not have sync enable for my contacts. I guess that means all my contacts were local to the phone...? Anyway, I turned on the sync expecting that the phone would push all my contacts up to my Google account. Instead it appears that the phone simply pulled down all the contacts from my Google account and deleted all the local accounts.

In any case, all of my old contacts are now gone from the original Droid (and of course none of them have appeared on the new Droid 3). It appears that by doing the sync, I lost all of my contacts! Is there any way to recover them? I tried to use the export feature from the "Favorites" tab, but that only exported the Google accounts that had been sync'ed down to the phone.

Did you read my post? I had the sync turned off, so my contacts were not being sent Google. When I turned the sync on, that's when everything went to crap.

Anyway, I found a file on the SD card called Cellibrite.vcf or something similar. I'm not sure where it came from, but it seems to be a backup of most of my contacts. I imported that file into Google via a web browser, so now all my contacts are kept in Google. As far as I'm concerned, that matter is closed.
