Exclamation Problem: GPS won't stay off

I have had my Droid for about a month now, I have been loving it, but now I have my first problem. The icon in my notification bar that says my GPS is on,, stay on, I cant get it to go off. I have to goto settings, then location & security and turn it off. It seems to be running my battery down. It just stated this this weekend. Why ? what have I done? I can turn it off, remove the batt. and then restart it, and it will be gone, for a short time, but will come back all by its self,, soon.
Any help would be appreceated.
