Default No 3g icon on Milestone A854, carrier(alltel) and motorola are stumped

Good evening everyone,
I have had my milestone for over a year now, and have had 3g issues with it.

I sent it into Motorola for a keyboard/touch screen repair (had the ghost hand issue..and not being able to use the middle of the touch screen). I got my phone back, and the 3g icon was not appearing, and my phone was reset to factory settings.

I didn't have wifi turned on, data roaming was turned on and set to automatic.

Called my carrier (alltel) and they put in a trouble ticket after trying many different settings and refreshes on their end and mine. Sent phone back to motorola twice, and they can't see any issues with it.

I can send/receive texts, but I can't use any internet/email. The icon does show up if I select airplane mode and it stays for a second or two from 3g icon showing up, to 1g then to airplane mode. Otherwise I never see the icon.

Phone is updated to the latest version, I haven't done any programming to it. My wife has the same phone and all of her settings are the same as mine except hers is listed as CDMA ev0 and mine is -1xrtt or something similar.

Would anyone have any suggestions on what to try?

Thank you!

Welcome to Android Forums, triplezealous.

Sorry to see you're having those issues with your old Droid. It seems you've pretty much run the gamut with the carrier and even Motorola, and I'm wondering if the device has become damaged with all the handling, etc.

Do you have insurance which can lead to getting a nice new model of your choice? Can you make the case that nothing you've done has caused these issues? You've not rooted the device, I gather; it seems that since they reset the phone and it is not working properly, it is up to them to supply a remedy to your satisfaction.
