Hello everyone, I just bought a Invisy shield and I thought I would give it a little review since I liked it enough to suggest it to friends and now you guys!
I had my droid X for about 2 days, and I was loving it naked then tragedy struck!!!!
I noticed a slight scratch on my new baby and my heart sunk. (Don't worry it wasn't a real scratch which I found out later!)
I decided I wasn't going to be a cheap @$$ and get a case on line and have to wait a week, so I hit up Best Buy, where I got my Droid X from and had been suggested to try Zagg skins. Invisible shield is a thin military grade silicon that is super strong and can resist heavy blows from keys and such. Depending on the phone it covers just about every inch of the phone. In the case of the Droid X it covers the screen and the back, which is plenty for this phone.
I had used this type of protection before for my iphone which proved to be more annoying than anything because the corners would come up as they were on rounded ends and contoured, but as you guys already know the Droid X is very flat and boxy so I figured I would give it a try again.
Let me note right now that you should follow the directions very closely as it does make a huge difference in the final product.
It goes on with this liquid they provide and thin silicon that is laser cut to the phones design. The fit was great and everything matched up nicely. Due to how flat the phone is there was no problems getting bubbles out. Took about 20 mins to install because I took my sweet time and so should you.
Let me give you guys some tips:
- make sure you are in a cool place, I sweat when I work with these!
- clean your hands super good
- avoid fans or air blowing around as dust may get on the film and you will get bubbles!
- make sure not to handle the film with dry hands, you will leave prints and hate yourself later (if you run out of the liquid, I'm 90% sure its just water and dish soap, so refill it if you need)
- Take your time and make sure you have it well lubed so you can slid it in place
- Take care to keep the water on the device to a min. I wiped up a lot.
- take the time to work out the bubbles, and don't get cough up on the micro ones they really do go away in time.
I have had this on for a few days and it doesn't look like its going anywhere. Very happy with this and now I don't have to put on a fat tacky case, I can enjoy the phone in it's naked awesomeness!
As you can see in the pics below you can barely tell its even there. The screen cover does not affect the touch at all either.
SUPER highly recommended.
Price: 32$ at Best Buy, if you have a friend that works there you can get them dirt cheap (8$ or less)

I tried ZAGG and wasnt pleased, felt weird to me. It was only $20 so I just threw it away and went to the Verizon Store. They had a 3 pack of screen protectors that feel very nice and are crystal clear.
The film does not cover the lens. There are 3 pieces and no it does not affect taking the battery cover at all. I know what you mean about orange peal but this one is very smooth.
I too have the Zagg on mine and I agree with your statements.
I do not like using cases, and the invisible shields are great as long as long as you take the time to apply them correctly.

Hahaha...ONLY $20...must be nice.
Anyways thanks for the review, I was going to throw one up when I got my replacement X, but obviously there is no need for it.
As the OP suggested, it's really not that hard to apply, just follow directions. I still can't believe people are paying BB to install it for them (and it just show's the ridiculous markup value on these things).
Also for those that plan on purchasing Zagg products really should enter their Ipad giveaway, as they will send you a discount code that is 30-50% off your next purchase.

I got my DX at Best Buy and they put the Zagg on, I did not like it and took it back for a refund, which I got. I then picked up the Verizon shield which I like much better.

Bleh. I don't like the orange peel look it has. I prefer the completely clear look of the Steinheil's. Of course that's just personal preference. I had a Zagg before for my first generation iPod Touch and didn't care much for the feel either.

I was thinking of ordering one of these, but I have a question. I had an Invisible shield on an old LG EnV and it was great. It covered the corners, so when I did drop it, it was pretty well protected. Does this cover the corners of the X? If not I might just have to go with a case.
I have a black berry that has one scratch on it. The corner where it hit when it fell. If you could let me know that would be awesome.
The only thing wrong with zagg is they're over priced. There are others selling the same stuff for a fraction of the cost minus the fancy packaging. Do your homework and save some money. I'm enjoying the naked gorilla glass got for now

Overpriced in some aspects, but their customer service is top-notch and I for one stand by their products. Again, I inform those who are looking to purchase an Invisibleshield, to enter their Weekly Ipad giveaway to receive a coupon to put towards their purchase. I managed to snag a 50% off coupon, and the price was just right to order.
Is there a lot of friction on the screen? I know with my Zagg shield on my laptop, there is significantly more friction on it.
I got the Zagg screen on the front only of my Droid X (I had a full body on my iphone 3g before). It definitely does add a little bit of "stickiness" but it's the tradeoff you have to make for a cover that is virtually impossible to scratch.
If anyone knows of another screen film that's as scratchproof as Zagg's but doesn't have the orange peel texture, I'm all ears (and eyes).

Wrapsol is pretty good and no orange peel. They had issues with their initial iPhone4 releases but they have a good reputation. Mine is waiting at home for me, I'll get it on tomorrow (when my phone comes, whoo hooo!!) and update here. They also offer a full dry cover too (no water used to apply)

I've had my invisible shield on for a little over a week now, and I'm used to it, but still notice a bit of drag when sliding. I miss the slick feel of the glass, but the day I dropped it when aiming for my purse and missed, I was really glad it was on there. It's a trade-off, but I don't know how long I'll leave it on.
And I paid for BB to put it on. I almost wish I had kept my receipt (didn't think it would be refundable? Who knew.) to be able to try something else.

Do you think its possible to remove my Zagg shield and replace it, or is it totally permanent? I am one of the idiots who had BB install my shield (they sort of tricked me into paying for it, long story...) and they messed up big time.
Maybe I will just return it and get a verizon one...

Once you remove the Invisibleshield, it'll be far too stretched and distorted to reapply. You will have to receive a new shield. Though considering Zagg has lifetime guarantees on their products, you should be getting one for free. I haven't purchased them from BB before, so I'm not sure if they give you one in-store, or if you have to order them directly from Zagg (who make you pay for shipping).
Note: This why paying BB $7+ to apply something that could easily, and more than likely be done better by yourself, is a ripoff.

I was once in their mobile section while the girl behind the counter was installing one on an iPad. She absolutely drenched the thing with the liquid. It was dripping everywhere and after she was done there was a huge puddle to soak up. I asked her how she kept from causing water damage and she said, "These things are pretty water resistant actually."

I noticed after five months or so on my Doid, the Zagg dragg pretty much went away. As if the shield absorbed a small bit of oil along it's surface to reduce friction. The Steinheil crystal I applied to my X had a small amount of drag after I installed it but that went away after only a few days.

I ordered mine a few days ago. I noticed that there are two versions the full body "easy install" which offers protection for the glass and the back of the phone (not the corners or sides), and then there is the full body "maximum coverage" (which I ordered). The maximum coverage looks a little more involved to install than the easy install, but in my opinion I think the extra coverage is worth it. I've installed a few Zagg shields on Cell Phones and my Nintendo DS, this should be as simple to do as those.
Again as other people have stated as long as you take your time it really isn't that hard and the results will most likely be much better than having someone else who doesn't care about your device install it.
As far as the lifetime warrany is concered, customer service is great. I installed a shield on my girlfriends cell phone which became "bubbly" after about a year and I called them and they sent me a new one free of charge, I think I paid 3 dollars for shipping and that's all, no questions no hassle. Awesome company.
So I guess the $7 I paid them to install the shield is gone for good, but does anyone know if Best Buy would accept a return if I have all the packaging and reciept? Probably not, but is it even worth a try?

I've seen in threads before that people were able to return even after it was installed. I think you're right about being out of the installation fee though.

Well, this is disconcerting.... yesterday I thought I had something small stuck on my screen, so I used my fingernail to try and scratch it off. Now I have track marks on my cover where my fingernail dug? I was hoping they'd smooth out over night, but no such luck. Anyone else mar their invisible shields yet?
Oh, and the speck disappeared - not sure what I thought I saw...
I just installed the maximum coverage skin, and it's great. I have had invisible skins for my iPod Touch, and it does seem like over the past year or so they have switched to a different material that doesn't have that "orange peel" feeling when it's dried. In my experience the invisible skins are also much easier to apply than the regular screen protectors, which have a tendency to get air bubbles under them.

Can you show pics of it, I am also interested in the maximium coverage option. I am scared that the corners of the phone will eventually fold up.
I entered the Ipad email thing, and only got a $2.50 off with discount code. But I found This guy on eBay selling it for $20 shipped.
Also, I am thinking that the Zagg maximum will start to peel when paired with the OEM/VZW holster because of the constant friction with the clip.

Yeah, I have a couple marks on mine from my fingernails from typing in landscape after about 2 days.
Thinking about returning it to best buy. I thought they were supposed to be indestructible.

Nearly yes, but they are still prone to scuff marks and the related damage. Also, and I know I probably sound like a broken record, but I don't trust BB with protector applications (especially considering the ridiculous $7 "installation" fee they charge), so your issues might be related to a poor primary application of the actual screen.
Yeah I actually installed it myself. It looks like it went on pretty good except for at the top of the screen. It isn't sticking down all the way up there. It had some bubbles in it whih disappeared after a few days. THe only other problem I have with it is how sometimes it feels smooth and other times it feels really sticky. I dunno if it has to do with the humidity or what but its really annoying. All in all Id say id probably want to try somehing else. Its too had that best buy only carries zagg since it sounds like the verizon ones suck and i don't want to wait in line for a half hour to buy one at their store anyway. I guess ill have to order something online.
I've got the zagg and a Seidio Innocase coming in the mail. I wish I would have known that you could get the zagg at Best Buy, I would have just gone to the local store and picked one up instead of buying online. I got the screen protector only for $17 shipped. It seems a bit overpriced to me considering its a one time use.
Speaking of use, can anyone speak to the life expectancy for the invisible shield when properly installed? I don't want to have to buy another screen protector in 3 months when this one bubbles up like other's I have used.
Hi,
I just installed the invisible shield on my DX. I understand that the microbubbles will work themselves out. However, there is still a level of unsatisfaction when it comes to the feel. It seems a little "sticky" and I see other users have the same issue. It is particularly a problem when trying to swype. Does this go away in time? If not, i may just opt for a privacy screen protector.

I assume it will work like my daughter's. She has one on her Chocolate Touch and it does smooth out over time. Just use it and I'm sure it'll get better.

Eh, not so much. Mine has been on for a coupla three weeks now, and it's still tacky. To the point I'm thinking of taking it off. I miss the smooooth slick glass under my fingertips! Wish I had kept my receipt from Best Buy so I could get a refund on it - the loss of $30 is the only thing keeping it on right now.

I just purchased the ZAGG foam since I had 40% off, so we will see how that works. I guess it cleans the phone and shield and is antibacterial, etc. You get the foam and a small cloth to use and you get about 80 foam sprays.
This is the thread I was looking for. Great review on the ZAGG product. My wife just got the DX (oh heavens no, not me...I'm just her tech support) and she doesn't have a great history with keeping her electronics in decent shape. I'd been searching for a good product and reading reviews. I came along ZAGG ... a bit pricey but impressive specs.
I'm torn between ZAGG and Wrapsol (they now have DX product). I guess it'd be too much to ask for a decent comparison?
Does it make the feel of the phone slippery or different at all? I'm more referring to the back of the phone. I haven't received my dX yet, so I can't really explain what the feel of a naked dX is. I like this, but I don't want it to be slippery because of the shield. Thanks for the review also.

Yeah I hear ya. Mine has been on since around the 18th and it is still really sticky most of the time. Other times, it's just fine. I guess if your fingers are even a little sweaty or wet it will be sticky and difficult to swipe.
I still think it's better than having nothing at all on there. I'm pretty sure I would have put a couple scratches in the screen by now.
i've had a Zagg shield on my optimus v and now Moto triumph. the stickiness is the only flaw to the screen protector. I hate it, but only when I even notice it's there. The main plus about Zagg is they don't show smudges, oil, or any kind of track mark on the screen and apparently it's durable too (which I don't really care about lol).
My Triumph came with a pre-installed factory shield but that thing showed fingerprints and oil/grease stuff, was killing me... paid $20 for this Zagg and had Best Buy install it because I didn't want to mess it up, but apparently BB reps are morons who slept through the class that showed them how to properly apply these screens.
I actually went back and had my shield replaced with another and a different rep f*cked it up more so than the last one, and this was the Manager.. who I delibertly waited for over 30 minutes to become available.. thinking "If anyone knows how to properly install these simple screens, its the manager!" ... nOpe >.> dude did it in under a min and it came out looking like crap
edit: Wow! lol gigantic coincidence but I posted this exactlyyy one year from the last post. weird
