Looks like 2 different things to me. CVPS is developing the Obsidian rom, while Birdman and others are apparently working on the bootloader.

From their tweets its kinda implied that they are making some progress or have an approach that may work to hijack the boot process.

Fun fact: you need to spoof ext3 filesystem headers when reformatting the X or you'll engage certificate checks on /system 11:40 PM Sep 14th via Twitter for Android

i read that from cvpcs twitter.

sounds interesting

Birman's latest updates made it sound like he knows how to do it and has the files, but can't exactly find where they should go. I'm sure he (and others) will figure it out and we MAY have an unlocked bootloader soon.

At that point I'm interested to see how many other kernel devs and customizers jump on the x that previously wrote it off and said they wouldn't be doing anything for it.

I sure hope so, but I do truly believe it will happen. Now if at this point no one had made any progress still then I would be worried. Why couldn't of nenolod highlighted what birdman needs That would make it easier

Totally agree with you, he knows exactly "where the car is parked", but is just standing idly by while birdman and many others look for it.

Well the guy sounds like an android hater for one.

How do you follow a conversation on twitter between two people? What a PIA
It almost sounds like Beesly has him talked into doing it but hard to tell from twitter

BTW read from the bottom up

  1. @nenolod Thanks nenolod. You already know how much the whole community would appreciate it. 11:36 AM Sep 17th via web in reply to nenolod

  2. @nenolod what you are saying about providing support. It takes up a lot of time if you let it. One of us would happy to put it out for you 10:57 AM Sep 17th via web in reply to nenolod

  3. @nenolod Why dont you "ghost" release it so you dont have to put up with support? I completely understand, I only mod build.props and I get 10:57 AM Sep 17th via web in reply to nenolod

  4. @nenolod I understand. But its quite the bummer. I doubt anyone will be able to get it done. At least the suspense is over for me. Finally. 10:39 AM Sep 17th via TweetCaster in reply to nenolod

  5. @nenolod So sad to hear... really. Damnnnnnnnnnnn 10:23 AM Sep 17th via web in reply to nenolod

Yes and it lead to so very interesting reading.
I kind of wish these guys would keep this stuff under wraps and make Moto work to figure out what they did. They should be hush hush until they release it. Because once moto knows they can patch it. Maybe they (moto ) will throw in the towel and do like they did with the D1. Claim it was a biz decision.
If there isn't enough of us that do the hack before it's patched I can't imagine lots of devs working too hard for a handful of user.

I hate bots
wait so you don't think alot of users will use or want this
and even if they do patch it we have the sbf, so... we can just flash back and we are fine

There is one way they could do it, but it would still get leaked eventually
I don't want to say it in case Moto is listening

NO I didn't say that but depending on how fast it's patched would possible limit how many get the hack. Are you sure a sbf flash would undo the fix? I'm not. If its that easy then Moto might as well say forget it you won. Then release a statement claiming they unlocked as a business decision and for the users which they so dearly love. Wouldn't that be nice? (Hey I can dream can't I?)

I see you agree with keeping it hush hush ..PM me the method your thinking of will you? We may want to write all our post in secret hidden text to throw them off also. <--secret message not here

They are different but flashing the sbf doesn't change it, it will stay at 30.01. @wadeivy said that he has downgraded back to 26.xx it but isn't releasing a method until it is actually necessary for something.

Smart. Good to know it's possible, though.

I swear I saw a tweet by @b16a2smith that said it does downgrade the mbm, maybe he was not talking about the sbf

Yeah but you need to do it again to see if the boot loader is rolled back. If not as soon as its patched everyone that hasn't done the hack (if we ever get one) will be left out.

Never mind though I see OMJ has already done it and confirmed it doesn't.
