So im trying to run RS lite 4.8 and so forth. However when I click start nothing happens. Also when I press show device nothing happens. I have the latest driver from Motorola (linked in this thread).
I did what the instructions said but after i installed 928 bg and restarted my phone it was stuck at the moto symbol. I tryied the unbricking process but got a little lost. After messing with my phone for a while i manged to get i back to the bootstrap menu and restored it. I tried the process all over again and got the same thing. I dont understand why im getting hung up there. Help please
My question is, the Droid X is known for having the locked bootloader. What exactely does this mean? I see fully customized roms out for the Droid X so don't see what limitation there are from the locked bootloader. Is it because we have created a work around? What I'm asking is what can we not do with the locked bootloader?
Thanks,
iRmAc

For the following, I have a couple suggestions and questions.
I am running the stock VZW rom with the update, so my screen says:
System version: Version.2.3.340.MB810.Verizon.en.US
Android version: 2.2.1
Baseband version: BP_C_01.09.07P

4. Drag and drop the zipped 928 BlackGlass onto your sdcard. You can make a separate folder for this on your SD Card labeled “custom themes/roms” and place the file there. You will later access this file through Bootstrap Recovery in order to install the custom ROM/Theme (or any other ROM or theme hereinafter).
Suggestion: The guide says to be in Mass Storage Mode, but this should take control of the SD card, so I'm thinking that needs set to charge only after copying the zip file but prior to moving on to step 5.

5. Open the Bootstrap app in your app drawer and press “Bootstrap Recovery”. Click “Allow” if the Superuser Permissions window pops up. Make sure to do this step before rebooting. Some users have been having issues with the phone not rebooting into recovery and it's usually because they skipped this step
On this step, When I select the top button "Bootstrap Recovery", I get this:
FAILURE:
Error running exec().
Command: [su, -c, ./data/data/com.koushikdutta.droidx.bootstrap/files/surunner.sh]
Working Directy: null
Environment: null
I'm pretty sure I didn't skip any steps. I do have the superuser icon.
Is there any terminal command that I could use in the terminal emulator that would confirm I really am rooted? I tried cd / and ls and see files, but not sure on this device what things would work rooted that don't unrooted.
Since the guide says to accept yes for permissions if it comes up, I went to the next step in hopes...

6. Press “Reboot Recovery” and your phone will reboot into recovery mode.
Nothing happens at all. It just stays on the Droid X Bootstrapper screen with the buttons and red skull pic.
hi everyone sorry for the lag. i take full responsibility for everyone bricking due to my lazy editing. Please note the update to my guide in the "DEODEXING" section. 2.3.340 (Android update 2.2.1) is not compatible with 928Droid's current deodexed theme and trying to bootload it through bootstrap will cause you to brick. Gotta thank OMJ and GrandMaster for their patience and helping me edit this error in my guide!
I will post an update to a more practical way of theming your phone in light of 2.2.1 being released.
928 is no longer compatible with newer versions and for the time being is unsupported due to the dev being ill(bless him)....you will brick if you try to use it

first and foremost make a backup through bootstrap (very important backup used for future ota and reverting to stock without having to sbf)...hers what you do do make a quick backup
open bootstrap app
select bootastrap revovery(prompt for sucess hit ok)
now select reboot recovery
now your in clockwork recovery(scroll using volume rockers, select using camera button and go back with power)
scroll to backup/restore select it
select backup and let it do its thing
once done hit the power(back button) and reboot
...now you have a backup and you can start reading about roms and themes and such..also if you want a rom dont worry about deodex as it will deodex for you upon rom installation(at least most roms do)
if all you want are themes then you will have to manually deodex prior to themeing......have fun!!!

after i received the newest update, i deodexed with xUltimate v2.2.2 and it worked with out any problems (although i still had to use adb)...i also read that if you download apex 1.3.1 it will automatically deodex the system
How do I get into recovery from the x being turned off?
you can only get into stock recovery ,,,,,when you go to power the phone on just hold the power button and the home button at the same time until you see a little triangle with an exclamation point and a little android guy on screen then press your search button and the recovery options will be displayed
Not exactly sure what I am doing wrong, but when I go to use RSD light with the SBF it keeps failing on me.
"failed flashing process. Failed flashing process. Unable to retrieve initialization values from INI file. (0x7029) Phone connected.
Any ideas?
** Finally figured it out shortly after this post. I guess the RSD was out dated and I picked a different SBF but running it on XP I finally got it working. The only issue I have yet to figure out is why after using the z4root and installing rom manager why am I still unable to install roms? Phone reboots I get the Motorola icon and then it goes into clock recovery. Saw a post about going into Droid X Bootstrap and hit bootstrap recovery but still did not work.
What else am i forgetting?

1. Experiencing Double Text Messaging: Receiving two of the exact texts at the same time?
This is a problem that I had to wrestle with for a while after installing a custom Theme on top of the blackglass deodexed ROM. After sifting through a couple forums I found that the easiest way of eliminating this problem was to download and install the “Titanium Backup” app from the app market and used it to uninstall the stock messaging app that Froyo comes with. This will solve your problem!
I have a droid x and was flashing a new ROM (which I think I flashed incorrectly, as in I flashed what I thought was a ROM but actually wasn't). I can get to the Clockwork Recovery (by pressing volume up and power) however when I choose to wipe the phone I get an error. When I say to wipe the cache I also get a similar error. I tried using SBF (the FROYO Droid X build) and RSDLite (I am able to get to the boot loader menu, by pressing camera, volume down, power). After running RSDLite, correctly (I have done it before) everything works up until the reboot. It gives me a progress percentage as if it is working until it gets to 100%, where it stays at 100% for hours. In the entire reboot process, my phone flashes the boot logo, turns off, flashes the boot logo, turns off, etc. This also happens anytime I try to turn it on.
I'm reading up on how to root my DroidX with 2.3.34 and I want to know which methods work with which Android versions. Is there a listing for this info? Also, my phone says it has an update 4.5.596 downloaded and ready to install. What version is that... it's not in the same sequence? Should I install it?
All I really want is wireless tethering, I don't care about other root features, but it looks like root is needed for wireless tethering now.
When attempting to download the one-click z4root from Softpedia, I recieved the following warning from Kaspersky: object is infected by Exploit.Linux.Lotoor.g
