i rooted to get beter battery life and my brother has the dx also non rooted and his battery life destroys mine i have the britness turned to 0 and have set cpu and juice defender plus i have the build prop mods and the blacked out top bar that was downloaded from rom manager
I don't personally think things like juice defender are necessary to save battery life, in fact I think they do quite the opposite. Have you set up profiles for setcpu, if so what are they? Also what apps do you have installed? Widgets on homescreen?
Device(s): Droid X...CM7 flashed nightly, and occasionally switched back to Liberty GB 0.8.

Different droid x's get different settings. My battery life is mediocre at best with ok usage and I've got my phone underclocked and not running anything but gmail pretty much. Kind of annoying. You just have to learn how to not be jealous of other peoples settings and results (im not there yet).
Try to underclock your phone. Just rooting it wont help you save battery life, and depending on what you have running and stuff using root access the battery life could be worse. Get set CPU and throttle down the max setting a little bit. And the brightness doesn't really effect anything everyone just assumes the screen brightness kills your battery.
I believe brightness did shorten my battery life some, so I have mine set to 20% most of the time (I got used to it). That said, the *display being on* uses up a lot of battery regardless of brightness. If your brother listens to a lot of music and you surf the web a lot, you will run the battery down a lot faster (of course, data usage is involved there as well).
You don't necessarily need to under-clock -- the voltage is probably more important. I over-clocked to 1.25 using low voltage and my battery is doing pretty well, plus it's not lagging.

you have an app or multiple apps/widgets stealing your battery life possibly then? How often are you on your phone? Because constant calls or multiple calls obviously will drain it. When my phone just sits with the screen off and nothing really running it uses id say 10% of life every hour or so. The constant GPS connecting and things like that drain it.

why 600/600 below 40%? and, does that have higher priority than screen off? if that's the case, your phone will always run 600 when it drops under 40%.
also, do you talk more on the phone than the one you are comparing it to? there are a lot of things that could cause you to get less battery life.

i have noticed that my usage time is well above my screen on time. ive deleted all of the apps that i can think of that would be causing this and still no luck
Your phone is working, sometimes, when the screen is off.
Does anyone have any idea what the UID1001 sensor is for? In Spare Parts under Battery History and Sensor Usage UID1001 is on nonstop, in fact the bar is longer than the android system itself.

I know that some apps have a setting you can change, one called wake lock, another called Wifi lock (there may be others). When turned on, these types of settings will not let your phone go completely to sleep, even if the screen is turned off. You may have these turned on is an app that you're unaware of.
But perhaps, instead of doing all of these things, making yourself crazy... you should just switch phones with your brother one day when he's not looking.

i would suggest trading BATTERIES with your brother and see what happens. this way you can rule out a bad battery and be confident it is a phone thing. (some batteries are just bad, brand new, rare, but it happens)

You might also try running a blurless ROM like fission or Rubix focused. I have noticed a TREMENDOUS increase in my battery life after running Fission under volted at stock clock speeds. Prior to fission I could last until 5 pm now I can go till 2-3 am or noon the next day depending on my usage.

Questions about using your mac with your phone? Let me know.

wtf?! if your display is turned off and the battery is being reduced every 10% / hour, thats a lot of drainage.
i will be at work from 9 - 5, and my battery life would drop only 10% that entire time (if barely used, if at all).
most of the time, battery life isn't dependent on device, but USER ERROR. Remove 3rd party apps, remove all battery-conserving applications (most don't work to your benefit), and do a control test of your battery life.
I assure you that 3rd party apps are the main culprit using up your 3G data.

Did you ever figure this out? I've been getting near 100% sensor usage from UID 1001 as well lately.
