Yes it voids the warranty but you can flash the OTA 2.2 and your back to stock and they can't tell. When you send them in (via mail) they don't have the time to go though them even if it was still rooted but don't take it in to the retail store while rooted. It's very easy, especially now. Once you root you can do themes (requires deodex, but there are themes and roms that deodex for you), roms, wireless tether, overclocking and more.
