Default Fission 2.1 final

Hey guys. I don't take credit for any of this just passing it along since I don't think many team Defuse guys frequent this forum.

2.1 final is now available at their site here. They originally were only releasing it today to people that donated, but since he is so nice he has opened it up to everyone else (although donating isn't a bad idea, he has done a lot and it's always nice to support devs.) I have been on this ROM since the early stages and it's awesome!

A little excerpt about the ROM from their site:
This is not an AOSP ROM but all stock packages are built from source. It is a complete set of vanilla Android applications. All Blur has been removed so it is the closest you will get to a true AOSP clean ROM for the Droid2/X/Global/Pro right now. This is not a themed ROM to make it look like AOSP ROM.

The purpose of this ROM was to remove all Blur and have a real Android experience. Please do not ask to add anything to ROM. Everything that is missing can be found in the Add On folder that was created when you installed ROM or can be downloaded from market.

The installed applications are all of your basic Android apps. Gmail, Voice Search, Car Home, YouTube and some other apps are missing since there are more updated versions on the market.
--
It is wicked fast and has greatly increased my battery life. I highly recommend this ROM to everyone. Please be sure to follow the directions exactly.

Instructions for downloading ROM can be found at his original thread over at XDA here

Go get it!

Thanks, downloading now.

edit: I noticed there are no installation instructions. I was not able to install from Rom Manager. In fact for some reason I can not reboot into recovery from Rom Manager. Trying from Koushes Boot strapper now.

edit: It Worked! Syncing all my apps etc... But now to determine how long I can go without a Theme For it.

Damn, the lock screen is back too, after all that work to get rid of it

Everything seems pretty smooth. (the one to change ring to vibrate to silent. That and the next theme. I should have taken screenshots and benchmarks with apex first. According to Tibackup a lot of things have been removed that I previously had backed up with apex though. Well thats my report for now, runs fine, smooth, just missing the themes mostly, and I'll need to play with the OC settings now I suppose.

One thing I'm missing is the Moto Ringer toggle widget. Also missing is the FM Radio (I guess it was blur?) But now how can I use the FM Radio on the phone?

You have the moto sliders?? I've got the stock android ones. And what did the moto ring toggle do? I'm sure there is a replacement out there. And tune in radio on the market can replace the radio since it was blur. And yeah, a lot was removed that's what makes this rom fly.

And I warned you about the installinstallation instructions lol. This rom is very picky. Did you not click on my link that takes you to his xda thread where the instructions were??

it's definitely recommended. You should treat this as a new ROM installation. I mean you can always try it without but you may get some FC's.

I missed the second link but I installed it the same way (only I formatted data instead of just wiping it.) However I also came from fresh ota.
The widget I'm missing is the one to toggle between sound, silent, and vibrate modes. Also, I used the gps today and there is no longer an option to speak the destination...that might be the deal breaker for me, or is there an app I can load to add that feature?

that widget can be found here.
I used GPS just fine. Even directed me through a Home depot parking lot to get to my destination. Voice directions was on the whole time. I'm not sure of the settings but in google maps navigation make sure that its all on. I would check now but I'm in the library.

the navigation voice works fine the problem is that I can not speak the destination. Very convenient when driving

using both the email app that comes with it and Gmail. no complaints.

As for the camera, I don't like the stock vanilla one but I bought Vignette prior to all this. I would recommend you do the same. Vignette is amazing. and well worth the price. It is the LP of the camera apps IMO.

the DX camera is in the Fission Add on folder. Just reboot into recovery mount /system and apply .zip.

I was on the Apex rom for a ling time and decided to try the fission rom out and I could not be happier with my choice. This is by far the fastest rom available currently. Its great! Plus the developer seems to really be in top of everything which is even better.

Angdroid over at XDA said that one of the features coming soon to fission are the power controls in the drop down notification bar. I didn't think this ROM could get any better! lol

I loved an older version of Fission when I last tried it, but after a week of using it, my phone would randomly start to stutter. Since nobody else has really mentioned the issue, something may have gotten screwed up a little during the installation or such. With currently being on Apex, the soft reboots ARE some numerous others have shared as an issue.. and they're kind of getting annoying. I'll definitely have to try giving Fission a try again!

I know what you mean. I was having some random stuff like that as well as soft reboots with earlier fission releases. I have been running 2.1 since Friday afternoon with NO hiccups!I definitely recommend it!

So, has anyone tried applying any of the ApeX mods (circle battery, clock removal, themes) to this ROM or do I have to be the guinea pig?

I took elements from both kangerade and apex themes, also the battery and clock mods.....applied them to Fission 2.1 final and it seems to be working well so far.

faber78 did a pretty good job, you might want to check out his thread:
TestBlackoutKangblue2.1 Theme for Fission 2.1

His had hints of blue throughout, while my setup still has some green left; if I don't feel too lazy I might change any green that's left to blue.

Some screenshots of my setup:

I tried applying this twice(yes I pressed mount system) and both times I've been stuck in a boot loop.

If you're applying it carefully as the directions state, you shouldn't encounter any boot loops. You're the first report of anything like that happening. I'm not really sure what to tell you. Did you try simply installing it through ROM Manager? Did you make sure to follow every step? Have you been able to apply any other themes? To be honest, I don't think you even need to mount /system unless you've cleared your cache / done a factory reset, which you don't need to do. I just included that step in case.

As far as I understand the post is clearly labelled as "Preview 3.1" there is no just "Preview", they all have numbered versions. Preview 2 is only left up there as it is the last version that I created that still works on Fission 2.0 - 2.0.2. I'd gladly make it more clear, if you have any suggestions, I'm just not sure how it's unclear in the first place truth be told.

With preview 2's download being labeled preview 2 and there being a preview one in the change log it looks like preview is preview 1. I think just changing it to say preview 3 download would help. Maybe it's just me...

The only thing I could see changing is where you put the dl link it says, "Download link" then lower down you have "Preview 2" I would change the the current dl link to something like "Download current theme here (works with 2.1)" or something along those lines. Also labeling them as Preview is somewhat confusing. This is just my opinion though.

I'll update the label for the download link. Thanks for the suggestion. Also, they're labeled previews as I'm not even nearly done yet. So they're just a preview of what's in store
