Default Please Help! Failed the update, Failed sbf!

Hey guys,

I did a search and saw some similar problems to mine but they have not helped me.

About me: Noob, some technical skills, follow directions well

About my phone:

Rooted-running 928Blackglass theme
Used Titanium to remove bloatware, I did not freeze them;
Phone's system version 2.3.15.MB810
Android Version 2.2

About the problem:
So when I tried to update to the new release, I was able to download fine, however it did not install. I saw that the problem was probably due to removing all the bloatware and so I decided to sbf it.

I have tried the 2.315 sbf and the 2.320 sbf files and both have failed. I am not sure what I am doing wrong.

Do I need to un-root before I flash the sbf? or what do I need to do.

Also, I also went a little crazy with Titanium and ended up deleting the facebook app from my phone by mistake. Now, I can't download it from market place because the new version is not compatible with my phone.

Please help,

How did you get to version 2.3.15.MB810? Via OTA or leaked upgrades? Have you SBF'd in the past?

When you say that it fails when does it fail during the SBF?
Are you sure you have the Full SBF not just the system SBF's?

What does the phone do right now?

Flash the BG back to stock odex file and try the update again.
I believe it will reinstall the missing apps...it did for me.

That update was through OTA; This is the 1st time I have rooted, and 1st time trying to SBF.

2.3.15 file failed at around 25% extraction
2.3.40 failed right away.

I am not sure if I have the full or just the system. I downloaded it from the links from other posts.

The phone is working fine right now.

So basically do I just place the .zip file on my sdcard and open it on my phone correct?

Will I lose the Black glass theme with this method? Just wondering.

Unless it was just released the 2.3.340 is the system only SBF. This was put out to help the people who were on the leaked 2.3.320 to get them up the the new OTA. So what you would need to do in this case is use the 2.3.320 SBF and then the 2.3.340 system only SBF to get you up to the OTA.

Yes, place the file on your SDcard or download it directly to your phone. Open/Run with ROM manager or boot into Clockworkmod recovery and install from SD there.

Yes, you will lose it...but Black Glass won't work with the update anyways, so do not try to reinstall it when you are updated.

I don't think you need to SBF...try my method 1st as it's much easier...if it fails we'll walk you through the SBF.

Default Thank You!

Simply amazing and genius. Thank you guys for the help, it worked as stated.

I have another question, now that I can't download the Black glass theme, which ROMS/themes are easy to download and don't have separate processes to deodex.

Thanks

Awesome! Can I just download that from ROM manager. Thanks

Is there a reason why Droid X Bootstrapper or ROM manager are not working right now. I am trying to Backup my current configuration.

Nah, just do it from Clockworkmod.

ROM manager probably needs to be updated on your phone (there's been some issues with the update, not sure if they are all worked out yet)

Bootstrapper works and has worked perfectly for me since the day I installed it months ago...don't know what's happening on yours.
Touch "Bootstrap Recovery" wait for the popup that says Success! and touch "OK". Now touch "Reboot Recovery" and it should reboot into Clockworkmod.

Something weird is going on:

I did follow those directions with the bootstrap recovery and still nothing happens. Also, the ROM manager is the most uptodate version. These files open, however it doesn't reboot me into clockworkmod.

Here is the weird part, every time I manually power down my phone and turn it back on, it re-boots into clockworkmod. Any thoughts?

TIA

OH!!!!...after you updated, did you re-root your phone?

Z4 is the easiest, if I find the most current thread with a link to the apk, I'll link it.
Here it is... http://software2tech.com/tag/z4root-apk-file/

Hey,

No, I didn't know I had to re-root after that. I tried installing the above file, however no progress is made on the reboot screen. It just states "installing" and shows the bar, but nothing progresses. I waited about 10 mins before a battery pull.

Should I have re-rooted prior to performing the system update?
I think I read somewhere that this root file doesn't work on the most current system version. is that correct?

Also, I still see the superuser icon in my app drawer. Does that not automatically mean that I am rooted.

Thanks again,

Sometimes the z4 root hangs and you have to try again, sometimes it takes 15 seconds...you may be good to go...but lets check.

When you click the z4 root icon, what options does it give?
Temp/Perm root?
or
Re/Un root?

Where is the 2.3.320 sbf file located? I've been looking everywhere to locate it, all I can ever seem to find is the 2.3.315 sbf file.

Maybe I doing it the wrong way, I downloaded the zip file onto my sdcard and went into clockworkmod and start it there...

I don't see any z4 root icon or get any options like that...

Update:
I found the .apk file from xda and just installed that. Let's see where it takes me

I am getting 3 options when I click the z4 icon:

Temporary Root
Permanent Root
Un-Root

Which one should I pick?

My phone setup was much like yours. I was rooted and had the Blackglass theme but no ROM. I had removed alot of Bloatware. I flashed back to SBF2.2 but I think msxjw is correct. If you flash using the Blackglass odex it should put you back to stock 2.2. Next install the OTA update. That will get you to .340 You then need to (re) root. Z4 is the best IMO. Once you reroot then you are ready to play. As for Blackglass I did read that a few prople have succssfully reinstalled it however I also read that the developer of BG has been very sick and off the forums for sometime so don't expect any support. Now, I highly recommend Apex 1.3. It is my first rom and it is amazing. You will really like it. I didn't even lay a theme over it. I made alot of changes in the notification bar because I thought stock icons were to small. You can go to Droidpirate.com and find tons of icons that work well with Apex. Sorry for the long post. My $.02
