Question Need Z4 Root Help!! (Droid X)

So I'm a total n00b, I just rooted my DX today. I used the one click z4 root app, which was really easy, and now I have a bunch more functionality and life is good.

However, the z4 doesn't seem to have much of a presence online, and I can't find any themes that I'm positive will be compatible. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Alternatively, can someone let me know if I should switch to a different mod?

Thanks!

Z4 is merely a tool to give nubs root VERY EASILY.

However, it is not a ROM, which is what you are talking about.

I myself would first do an SBF flash.. follow the guide I quoted to get up to date to use the latest ROM's...

Quote:
Motorola USB drivers (Windows 32 bit) (Windows 64 bit)
RSD Lite 4.8 (Get It Here)
Droid X: 2.3.320 Full SBF (Get It Here)
Droid X: 2.3.340 System SBF (Get It Here)

  • Unzip the both SBF files
  • Open RSD Lite, tap the “…” button
  • Select the 2.3.320 Full SBF file that you just unzipped
  • Boot your phone into Boot Loader
    • Power OFF the Phone
    • HOLD the Volume Down Button + Camera Button + Power Button
    • The screen will flash
    • Immediately release the buttons
    • You will see the boot loader information displayed on your phone and sou should also now see your phone in RSD Lite
      • You may need to click show devices in RSD Lite.
    • Click the Start button and allow your phone to flash 2.3.320 Full SBF
    • The Phone will reboot and you should then have 2.3.320 installed.
  • To install 2.3.340 System SBF follow these same steps, just using the 2.3.340 System SBF file.
If your phone gets stuck in a loop then yank the battery and perform a Data Wipe/Factory Reset.

  • Hold down the Home Button + Power Button until you see the Android and Triangle (with Exclamation).
  • Then press the Search Button (Magnifying Glass).
  • Factory Reset

And again, a big thanks to RoOoLeR, colchiro and Steven58 for all of their help.
You will loose root after doing this, but simply use the Z4root tool again, and then look for ROM's like GummyJar or Apex.

Also, if you want to make life TONs easier since your so new, go DL ROM Manager, and that way you can DL ROM's right from your phone without having to DL them on your comp, and transfer and do all that jazz.

Hey, I resent that

I don't consider myself a noob, but I use Z4Root, and so do a lot of other people that aren't noobs. Why would you want to make rooting your phone a difficult process when it can be done very simply with Z4Root?

I use it too.

But I don't think you realize how many people mess their phones up doing simple things.

I'm a noob and have a question on this. Do I have to sbf flash .340 if my phone already has .340 on it?

If he wants to run with the best and up to date ROM's then he will want to flash so they will run stably.

Well, see...that's what I'm saying. If the OP is on stock he should also have been updated by now to .340 and there would be no reason for him to sbf.

Of course it would never hurt to learn the process of an sbf before getting too far into rooting, romming, and whatnot.
