Question Liberty ROM Installation help

OK so I have an Android X (version 2.2.1) and using Titanium Backup, I somehow accidentally uninstalled my Text Messaging 2.2.1 app and havent been receiving texts since. I found out that installing a new ROM would reinstall it for me, and decided on Liberty. So I installed the Liberty Toolbox from the Android Market, and selected Download then Install, and it reboot. However, I cannot notice a difference at all after the reboot..
I've also had this same issue with installing other ROMs via the ROM Manager as well.

What am I doing wrong?

Does the Text Messaging app appear in your app drawer?

You could try downloading an alternative app like Handcent. See if that fixes your problem.

once you download the liberty 2.0 rom (IF ROM MANAGER JUST REBOOTS THE PHONE WITHOUT INSTALLING THE ROM)
open droid x bootstrapper
Reboot Recovery
Install Zip from SD Card
choose zip from sdcard
and go to the liberty folder that was created when you downloaded from the toolbox
open the Roms, folder
and download the file thats there
should be doubleox.zip
and when its done installing go back to main menu of bootstrap recovery by hitting your back button, and reboot phone
you can them open the tool box back up (if your text messaging app isnt reinstalled) (which it should be)
and go to Rom Manager (from the Liberty Toolbox(Dontated))
and select download rom, scroll passed the rom, and the fc fix, and the themes, and all your apps will be listed there, and download the one you are missing

IF installing the liberty rom didnt fix your issue

Ok, so I decided just to do a hard reset (held Power & Home buttons, then selected "wipe data/factory reset"), just to start new from scratch (and hopefully my Text Messaging would be back).
However, now when I boot my phone up and unlock it, all I see is a blank (black) screen, and none of the buttons seem to do anything.. The only thing that seems to work is 1) receiving calls, 2) the web browser (via voice command), and 3) the pull-down notifications window (which is pretty much empty).

Why is this?? Is there a way to re-install the stock ROM?

Because you deleted certain system apps, a restore that way is not possible IIRC. If you want flash the SBF and you can start from scratch.

Or if I were you, I'd follow the directions posted above and play with Liberty.

The text messaging app didn't appear in your app drawer? Or downloading an alternative didn't fix your problem? Or both?

Would it not matter either way after the reset from recovery?

A factory reset doesn't replace things that are missing. It only wipes the user data.

The question is whether he's just missing the application to access his SMS messages, or if he has some kind of system problem.

Seems like both. I already had the Handcent app at the time I uninstalled the Text Messaging app, and I've tested it by sending myself a text message but didn't receive it.

Well before this whole system problem cropped up, I was able to access my old SMS messages via Handcent, just couldn't seem to send/receive further messages.

Well I followed the instructions (I found via a Google search) for flashing using SBF: 1) Downloaded the Motorola USB driver (MotoHelper_2.0.40_Driver_4.9.0.exe), RSD Lite 4.9 (RSD_Lite_49.zip) and the SBF file (VRZ_MB810_2.3.15_1FF_01.sbf), then 2)turned off Android, plugged in the USB to my Windows 7 computer, and booted into the bootstrapper menu. And then 3) I opened RSD Lite as Administrator and selected the SBF file, but the Start button remains inactive.

luckily you havent flashed this file yet, as its not the one you need to flash!

you need to flash 2.3.320 or 2.3.340

i dont know where the files are, i would upload them, but since im at work, i dont have access to my files at home, hopefully though someone will load it for you, or give you the correct link!

No... never saw anything about that. When in the process do I do this, and what does it do?

Ooh, so thats the bootloader... I always thought the bootloader menu was the one you get when you hold the home+power button down.

I just went into the command prompt and entered:
Code:
SDL -f VRZ_MB810_2.3.34_1FF_01.sbf -t 2
and it ran

Thank you for all your help Saint!

Sorry, but while I still have you, can you help me with my original problem real quick? When you said install ZIP from sdcard, which zip file?

when you install the new liberty 2.0 *note you have to purchase the donate version of the liberty toolbox from the market*

once yo download the rom if it doesnt install from the rom manager toolbox
if you go to droid x bootstrapper and when you look for the file to install, go to the liberty folder
look in roms
and its labeled doubleox.zip
it wont say zip i dont think, just doubleox

Ok, I installed Liberty via the bootstrapper, but then it rebooted and got stuck on the LIBERTY boot screen (with the rotating logo) for over an hour so I just restored my previous ROM backup.
What went wrong?

Yea, wiped the data&cache and the install went through. I'm trying to access the Liberty Settings, but keep getting the message: "sorry, the application settings com.android.settings has stopped unexpectedly".

go to rom manager

select i think all(im at work and no service on my x)
download rom and look for force close fix
you may have to select every different one to find the force close fix because i cannot remember where it is exactly

but the fix is there.

Cool, fixed it! One last thing... (haha) in trying to access Spare Parts or Dev Tools in the Liberty Settings menu, I get this message:
Code:
The application Liberty Toolbox (process com.jrummy.liberty.toolboxpro) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.

hrm,

my spare parts works, however i reflashed 2.0 a day or so ago, and forgot to update the fc fix, it may be an issue with the rom itself that is having the issues, try redownloading spare parts from the market

Do you mean this spare parts? B/c it doesn't seem related to Liberty (but I installed it anyway to no avail)...

no thats not it, well what you can do, is re-run the fix, and if it doesnt work, if you want to do this, reinstall liberty, wipe data and cache

or
go to droidforums under the liberty-dx rom section under 2.0 issues, state your issue and check back there within or in an hour

Ok, I installed the patch and my camera stopped working. Specifically it snaps the photo by either I get a black screen or dark gray.

Any ideas?

rom manager has a nice system, where you can name your backups (preferred)

or you can use droid x bootstrapper, it has the same feature, its on the main list in the Reboot Recovery option

There isn't an option to do that or I am not seeing it. The only option is to install the Blur Camera or Stock Camera add-ons. I tried both and the camera does the same. It sees, but when it attempts to capture I get a black or gray solid screen capture.

I tried rebooting, battery pulls, and reinstalling the theme altogether. Now the camera app is glitching and freezing.

Otherwise the phone works fine. If there is no fix I need to try another ROM because I actually use my camera quite often.

Any step by step fix you got in mind?

every phone gets bugs in its own way, yours is affected by the camera, i suggest reinstalling a clean 2.0.1 rom, wipe data and cache, and try again.

i had multiple issues with liberty 1.0 and 1.5, this is the first liberty rom i havent had an issue with yet.

I was thinking that. Can I do that from the Liberty Toolbox app? Just select wipe data and cache - which I didn't do the last time per the instructions.

Apparently this is a Liberty 2.0 glitch with the patch. I did a fresh install, wiped and still the camera is doing the same. Additionally now I have no video camera application.

Contacted a friend whose DX had similar camera glitching. He SBF'ed and the camera function is back.

Any chance Liberty is working on a patch for this design flaw?

well apparently jrummy made a mistake with the patch, it has something to do with the X and the droid 2

its possible you may have downloaded the droid 2 patch? it might not be, redownload the whole 2.0.1 rom, wipe data and cache, if sbfng fixes your issue go for it, and retry liberty 2.0.1 and see if the camera bug comes back. i just think your phone developed the bug, mine developed certain bugs in liberty 1.0 and 1.5 so i know its possible, this is the only version of liberty that i havent had an issue yet
