Default CM4DX Gps Fix

Can someone the following fix for GPS on CM4DX?

Pull gps.shadow.so from any .596 Rom and overwrite the version in /system/lib/hw

GPS seems to work fine with the replaced .so file. I've attached it just in case you guys don't have a Rom to pull from.

Here's the file for those that like to do stuff themselves - gps.shadow.so
Don't forget to change the permissions to rw-r--r-- and reboot (Thanks for the reminder Kev)

Update:
Here's a flashable zip file for those who are as lazy as I am - CMod7 Gps Fix. Please mount system before installing.

GL

Note: It seems like the location service problems are a know issue the recent Cmod builds. If so, I'm confident it'll be taken care of by the time the build goes "stable".

Quick question as I am trying this, did you change your permissions to the rw-r--r-- to match the other files in there? Did you reboot as well after this was done? I did both of these so I wanted to make sure.

You are my hero!!!!! I was able to get in to maps and it found me with in a couple of seconds. Also on the toolbar the GPS icon showed up when it was searching and had a lock. I will have to give the navigation a try at lunch.

It is for me, but I am thinking that since this will be a huge fix for many that there may be some people doing something like this for the first time. This was a great idea!

I can confirm that this works, GPS Test is picking up lots of satellites when before it would not find any.

Do not mind at all. I should really have posted there.
Also, I don't want to clutter the forums with a small thread like this.

Thank you for the GPS fix! I can deal with not having a camera for now. However, would it be possible to just copy over file(s) like this for the camera to get it working?

Do you have root explorer? Try using that or a free alternative. I think Yaffs or Astro let you do it.

1. Download Yaffs file manager from the market.
2. Navigate to /system/lib/hw
3. Long press gps.shadow.so
4. Select Permissions (you'll have to grant root access)
5. Select the check the first three boxes on the first row.
6. Check the left most box on the second row.
7. Uncheck every other box.
8. Reboot phone.

Seems to fix GPS - at least for maps and navigation which is 99.9% of what I use GPS for. Sweet fix! Thanks a lot!

I use mount / system app from the market and terminal emulator.

Run the app and mount system as read write ( rw ). Then in the terminal emulator, type su. Now just

cp gps.shadow.so /system/lib/hw
chmod 644 /system/lib/hw/gps.shadow.so

Rerun the mount app and mount back to read only ( ro ) and reboot.

Worked for me. Launched Google maps and in about 4 seconds, it had my location.

This fixed satellite gps.

But... network location does not work. Is there anyother lib for that?

Also how do you calibrate the compass, or do we need a driver for that too?

I have not had any problems with my network location at all. What baseband are you on .12 or .07? I am on .07 using the Monster zip twice to get there.

You can calibrate your compass with any compass app from market. I typed compass and used the first app that showed up.

.07. I flashed the monster.zip second time this morning.

After "calibrating". Compass isn't reliably pointing north... sometimes it seems off by 45degrees or so.

The first compass app was compass from catch.com and is also uses coarse (network) gps. It could never find my signal.

No. Don't know how. I hadn't messed w/ permissions yet - I was just trying to copy/paste over the existing file.

There are a few camera apps that are working along with a video recording app.

Gotcha. Which camera apps?

Also, did you sbf back to froyo or use the file from TBH. If CM7 gets the GPS fix in it Im willing to flash and use a camera app for now.

Thanks man. Just want to give this ROM the best chance to run at its best.

Camera Illusion, I installed the monster.zip rather than SBF back to Froyo.

does camera illusion have zoom, focus, and basic features? i was using fastburst and i got a couple decent pics trying it out, but for the most part it wasn't really an option.

Just be aware that even with a GPS and camera fix, this ROM is still in beta and has issues. The next biggest issue is probably the battery use issue. Most users have experienced higher than normal cell standby usage that causes the battery to be used up much quicker than normal, even if the phone is not being used.

honestly, easiest way is to use terminal emulator or purchase root explorer. IMO root explorer is worth the money for this purpose alone.
