Im on liberty v.8 but I don't know if that's causing it. My bottom 4 buttons turn on and off when.they want. (And this period button is really peeing me off) right now.imin my dark basement and they're off, but yesterday I was outside during the day and they were on... I don't.know what order they're in yet cuz I just switched from the d1 to the ex. Its really quite ridiculous... how can I control these damns lights on.these buttons... damn period button...

lol i know your pain on the period button

it may be something to do with liberty rom, like we all have said before there are quite a few bugs in liberty

have you tried flashing a different rom? that may be the route you should take

I'm on rooted GB and I have the same problem. The lights are on when I want them off, and off when I want them on. It would be sweet if someone smarter than me could make an app to control it manually. :P

Was gonna write an app for you guys, but apparently someone has already beat me to it:

[APP] AdjBrightness - xda-developers
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.deskangel.adjbrightness
AdjBrightness for Android | AppBrain.com

Never used it myself, but it looks promising.

Good luck and cheers!

This is a good app if you want to change the brightness of the hard buttons. But does nothing for the lights working when THEY want to. I hope the new update Moto is releasing fixes this problem.

I use AdjBrightness to turn the lights completely off and they do not turn back on. Once you open the app press the menu button >options >then scroll down to "Lock off button light" and place a check mark in the box. Make sure there is no check mark in "Auto restore" under Screen Brightness.

Ah....I gotcha, I misunderstood what you were saying. I don't use the 4 hard buttons so I like being able to turn the lights off.

I use my phone quite a bit at night and in dark places so I need the lights. I don't like fumbling to find the hard button I want to hit. With the release of the official .596 I have noticed they still work when they want to(compared to the unofficial release of .596) but now the damn things come on and stay on when I put it in the dock. THAT..is annoying.

Moto really needs to step up their game or sooner or later they are gonna loose business to another company that CAN get it right.

That's one of the annoying things about .596 for DX, the button lights work whenever they want to. They work fine on CM7 for me

I also hate on GB when you dock the phone the screen and lights never turn off unless you push the power button; on CM7 they both turn off on their own

I like the screen being on. Just dimmed out. That's the whole purpose of me having the dock so I can use my X as my alarm and desktop clock at night. Hitting the power button turns off the lights yes but also turns off the screen which I don't want it to do.

Well I don't have an alarm clock. My wife does but she hogs the damn thing and I can't even see it from my side of the bed. I have 3 HDTV's, Wii, PS3, Bluray players, etc. BUT NO DAMN ALARM CLOCK?

What can I say? The electronics section at Wallyworld just sucks me in and I forget what I was there for. And I always walk out with something from the electronics section too.......

Any fix ever found? My lights never go out in the dock either! As an alarm clock, that sucks. Some times they do, it's obviously a bug. DX going in the freaking trash soon.

adjbrightness was my cure

Description
*ROOT REQUIRED*
(Galaxy S is only partly supported. It can work, but the screen might keep off after sleep. If you encounter this issue, Please reboot.)
Adjust screen brightness for *rooted* device from 2 ~ 255. Six predefined values can be customized by you. (Untick all settings in option activity to disable all the features.)
Main Features:
1. Can dim the screen to a very low level to save battery and your eyes.
2. Can lock the screen brightness so other application cannot changed it until you unlock it.
3. Can turn on/off the backlight of buttons.
4. Can lock the backlight of buttons and keep it always off or always on.
5. Can turn off the annoying blinking amber light while the battery is low.

Yes, that is what I have done already. Just seeing if there is a fix though as I still need the buttons to light. However, it is the lesser evil having them off all the time vice always light during the night. I'd assume that this will NEVER get fixed as the X is end of life. Hence, Moto leaving us with a broken phone and a desk dock that is annoying. Guess that is why my next phone wont be from moto.

I agree serpa4. Moto, like any company, is so geared toward making money on their next device, they leave people hanging with glitches they never work out of their previous device.

Is there anything you can do about it? Nope. They have all the money. All we can do is tell them to stuff their devices and buy from another company. this is what i'm doing. I'm going to a Samsung device.

Moto makes some good devices but they are lacking in the customer concern department.
