Dumb question.

I have upgraded my X and now use a Samsung Stratosphere.

I want to root my Droid X and my question is does it need to be activated in order to do this?

If I can get the new ICS to work on it I will re-activate it

Allot of progress is being made on ICS for the X. The only problem with ICS on the X is the non functioning camera. That is gonna take awhile because a new driver has to be writen for it.

As for your question, your phone doesn't have to be activated to root or throw Roms on it. It just has to be activated to, well, use it (calls,texting,etc).

you can use it as a wifi only device, its a lot more convenient if you want to test some things on it without sacrificing your actual phone
