Make sure you start out with 602/605 (GB).

You need to:

Backup your current rom in recovery, and backup in Titanuium Backup (or similar app)
format cache
wipe Dalvik cache
If coming from a non MIUI rom, you should also wipe data.
mount system, flash rom

i always have issues with setting up my ringtones in miui. I CANNOT find a fix for it,(or to say the thread on how the work-around goes) to appropriately set certain ringtones to certain callers...
example: imperial march(with darth stating it is the datkside)-to let me know "work" is calling
Please help....thnx
I actually left miui (i like that this is a newer build) went to liquid, bc I really NEED different assigned ringtones...for all the good reasons

might be coincidence, but after applying this update, my facebook news feed is weird. the time a post is reported to have been posted (on the lower left of a post) where it used to say the minutes or hours since posting, seems to be either a weird character or some foreign letter type. not sure, since it is small and i have terrible close-up eyesight. but it is noticeable, doesn't seem to have affected anything else, though

I've been using Apex for quite awhile. Tried installing MIUI yesterday, and...well, I'm glad I did a Nandroid first.

The initial install seemed to go fine. Restored from TiBu and suddenly MIUI was force-closing constantly, in, I think, Android Core or something. I'm willing to do some research when my phone glitches up, but not when I can barely do anything without a dialog box popping up.

I'm not blaming MIUI in particular...I didn't SBF or anything first, though I did do all the formatting and such. Not sure that that was good enough. I also use Go Launcher and had restored that...not sure whether that would have any bearing on the situation.

MIUI looks beautiful; I was pretty disappointed that I couldn't get past the errors long enough to appreciate it.

Sounds like you restored more than just apps from TIBU. You don't want to restore things in red or green.

Try just reflashing the rom after wiping data and cache and mounting system. You might also try fixing permissions from recovery.

Thanks! I'll give that a shot!

Any idea whether I can at least get away with Swype?

Sorry, I'm not going to be much help with Swype. I can type quite fast on a computer, but on touch screen, I fall back to hunt and peck with one (index) finger.

Tried the Galnet version of MIUI for a couple days and had a serious battery drain going on. I'm talking 15% battery at 10am with minimal usage. I wasn't able to pinpoint what it was, but the "Android System" under battery usage was extremely high and the phone was borderline hot. Needless to say I'm back on GB MIUI for now.

We all get that once in awhile. I had email using 50% of my battery one day. You need to open your battery stats, tap the menu button to show just unplugged usage and see what's been eating up your battery.

Also, install cpu spy from Market and see if you're getting deep sleep. Last I checked I had 80% deep sleep, but most of the rest was 300 mhz so something is waking it up... email would be my guess.

Thanks again colchiro. I put MIUI back on and unfroze Swype and it appears to be okay, though I've done minimal usage thus far.

Is there any way to close individual notifications? I'm used to being able to do that in Apex.

I ended up going back to Apex, not without some regret. MIUI looks beautiful, but I couldn't figure out a way to close individual notification alerts, which I've become used to (I searched for solutions to this without success), and at one point it locked up badly enough that I had to do a battery pull; I don't remember the last time I had to do that under Apex.

Your suggestion to do a restore from TB without the red and green apps did do the trick as far as FCs went, so that was a big help.

I'll be keeping an eye on MIUI to see whether my concerns get addressed, and would be happy to give it another go at that point. For now though, I think my urge for experimentation has been satisfied unless there's something I've missed.

Install a third party launcher - I'm using ADW and it's great.

Loving this ROM. It's the first time MIUI has agreed with my phone. My only issue is Handcent force closes but I installed GO SMS Pro and it's really just as good. So nothing lost there.

Does anyone know how to edit the lock screen?

I don't want an additional app for the lockscreen - I already have an app for that. I wanted to edit the lockscreen that came with the ROM, if possible.

Just installed this ROM, after hanging with Apex for a few months. It's NICE, as long as it doesn't go nuts (like the latest Encounter ICS did) I can def see myself sticking with this for a while.

Thanks!

One quick question. Does the camera take only out of focus pics on purpose? or is that a bug? or is it just me?

Can I just go into recovery and install it from the downloaded zip there? Do I need to open a terminal?

I've seen warnings to not install stuff from the blue led prompt recovery so I always do the

su
cat.jpg

from terminal, then open Rom Manager and boot into recovery.

Not sure if that's needed, but always works for me.
