Just bought this phone off of craihslist. It didn't come with an SD card and the phone was wiped. When I brought it to verizon they told me it had been rooted and that they can't fix it. I don't have a computer or internet and the phone is not activated cause it won't let me. How do I fix this and unroot the phone properly to get it back to stock. Sorry I'm new to all this android stuff. Please help.

An app available in Android Market called Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper works on my Samsung Galaxy Tab and Droid X2, temp unroot, etc. No computer needed. It's worth a try on your X.
I know anyone can sign into Google and the Market, but he also stated he has no internet. So he logs in and finds the app you mentioned. How does it get sent to his phone if the phone isn't "registered" on the Market???
he would have to go to a local mcdonalds in order to get on wifi, or anywhere that offers it for free, some hospitals have outside internet sources people can get on free

DUH!!! I mistakenly thought he meant no internet capability on the phone, not "access" to the internet. Thanks for straightening me out. In any case, I hope he gets it figured out.
For my own future reference, is it safe to assume you can register an inactive phone on the Market and load apps to it as long as you are connected to the net? Doesn't seem right, but maybe Google has no idea if you're connected to Verizon or not.
yes you can mahers, you can actually use it as a mobile gaming device, and internet device, as long as there is wifi, and activating the phone is only for verizon and being on their network, and using their data. it isnt required.
the app Hideyourroot (or hidemyroot) will do it on the fly.. one button to hide and another button to unhide. no need to have a computer.
correct, but if the time comes that you need to return it, this is not the best method of use, as you can be charged a restocking fee, and made to return the equipment you were given in exchange
