So now the race is on for a working camera. Will it be CM9 or EncounterICS? We shall see. Ima gonna flash this just to check it out. Compare it to FE's ICS. I'm sure there are bugs. It is Beta......duh......lol

I read on a tech site today that phones take more pics than cameras these days. I have an expensive 24x camera, but use my X for pics. (I'm wondering where that camera is now.)
I'm generaly suprised. For a Beta, this thing is running pretty damn smooth. Only problems I have found so far are TiBu locks up when batch restoring, which isn't a Rom issue, It's TiBu subtle incompatibility to ICS, and the launcher FC's while browsing through the widgets.

I'm gonna have to shoot myself in the face.....ICS CM9, dammit, camera has to work or have a workaround before i can even consider flashing it.
Any ideas?

Im in the same boat re: the fancy camera but only use my phone these days. Its rare I even use the big camera unless im shooting pictures of my car. I rewrap leather steering wheels for a living and like to take a few shots of the before and after and send them to the owners while they wait for their wheels to arrive and find the phone camera a necessity/uber convenience.

Does anyone know of an app that has camera drivers in it? That could be the ticket for these builds that have camera issues. Is that even possible? Devs?

possibly, but if it had native drivers for the hardware in the app, which would load in a shell when the camera or other hardware was opened, it might work. i know this sort of thing works in pc's, so it may work in a portable device as well. might be worth looking in to. i don't know enough about coding to do this, but perhaps someone here knows how and never had the idea occur to him

With it being 4.0 I'm not sure if they can just make it use the GB files like can be done with CM7. He did mention in the thread there was a workaround, just didnt state what it was.
I been running it since it was posted here n it seems to run nice n smooth. Battery life is no worse than it was with CM7.

Taking into concideration that all hardware isn't equal. I think this has better battery life on my phone than CM7 did. And he posted an updated version. The batery percentage is now working.

@playfulgod: thats what i mean, if the driver were to be added into the app as a standalone, it might work regardless of what ROM or which android version you are on, it would run only when open and if isolated from the shell it would probably work

You can download the app but you cannot use it on the rom. Lol I thought I'd work almost
Huh like playing horseshoes, hand grenades, and four leaf clovers I hope they can fix this with chrome beta or future chrome browsers.
Big break through guys. Looks like the camera is finally working through a simple build.prop edit. If you're on 03082012, all you have to do is change one line.
In the build.prop, go to the line that says "ro.media.capture.classification" and change whatever is written there to either classD or classE. classD didn't work for me, but classE did.
Not sure if the stock camera app works, didn't give it a shot yet. However, Camera MX is definitely working, lgCamera, and HDR Camera is working as well. Just tested those three. Not sure if anybody is still following this ROM, but there you go.
The Following User Says Thank You to Xelios For This Useful Post:
Yeah, the stock app just keeps crashing. I haven't bothered testing the stock app. I remember before the fix, it would take a lot of tries to even get it working with the purple tint. LGCamera is definitely the best one out of all the apps I've tried.
Thanks for posting that build though. I didn't catch it when I was sorting through the pages looking for the fix. I'll flash it now just incase I missed any other fixes in the thread. IMO now that the camera is working, this ROM is pretty much fully functional.
I'm not getting deep sleep so ran thru a battery pretty quick. I suspect it's an app doing it, tho this isn't my first ICS rom.
I wonder if it's an app not written for ICS code OR if it's the stupid locked bootloader that has been causing all of our problems on this phone from Day 1.
I would love to dual boot this ROM just to try it out and see if my phone has the ability to run it as a daily driver without blowing up my whole phone. Has anyone done this yet? I have not purchased Boot Manager yet, but if it works with this ROM dual booted with CM7 I would buy it in a heartbeat.
Is your wifi on? I had that problem since firstEncounter ICS. I haven't checked it on this ROM because I just got used to turning the wifi off an night. Absolutely decimated my battery in a few hours.

I uninstalled Droid Overclock and it's sleeping today now. I saw that before with DO in ICS MIUI, but Set CPU only goes to 1000 for me.
Yesterday I installed this when I got off work at 4 p.m (fully charged) and by 10:00 it was all set up. By 10:30 I was down to 14%. I have an extended battery.
OK - so I went ahead and installed this last night. It's pretty good. Not as snappy as I thought it would be but it's a pretty nice ROM. I installed Nova and it adds back that real estate you lose b/c of the Google Search bar. Not sure if I'll keep nova or use ADW. I was under the impression that the camera fix was included in the 3/8 build. My camera is not working. Does anyone know if this is an issue with my install or if I have to modify the code?
Edit: I take it back - I tried LG Camera again this morning and it's working fine. No idea what changed but I'm happy

Yes, stock camera doesn't work, but many of the other ones do work.
I had to blow this up. As much as I enjoyed some of the ICS features and look forward to them, it just wasn't sitting right on my phone. I burned through 40% battery in 3 hours. Most of the time the screen was off. I cannot use that ROM on this phone and not be near a charger. Plus, I didn't think it was smooth enough as compared to the CM7 ROMs that are out there. In fact, it was very unresponsive at least half of the time.
I'll try it again when and if it ever comes out of beta, but it didn't play nice with my X in its current state.
Installed the 03/14 build last night with the 02/16 GAPPS.... working well, except for cameras (have tried MX, LG, QuickSnap) and BuildProp is set to ClassE -
Battery life is pretty good though and generally it works great!
This was just OK. I enjoyed some of the features of ICS quite a bit, but in general it just did not sit right on my phone. I reinstalled it again on Saturday night and sat with it for about 24 hours. There was just some lag there that I did not see any reason to stick with. Even typing with Swiftkey became a bit painful if the phone was on too long. I don't know if the multi tasking didn't work well or there isn't enough RAM on this phone? I'm not sure. I ran it totally bare bones to make sure it wasn't an app that was slowing it down.
So I'm back to the [CM7 KANG]YACMK v1.0.0 I was running before I reinstalled ICS. I have not run it long enough to decide if I'm sticking with it, but so far, it's really nice. I did read that CM 7.2 RC1 is out - and the X is included. I may give that one a shot...maybe

I'm on the version from the 19th, the lag from the operating system isn't bad, but you have to use sky fire browser to use flash and there is definately lag there. I get about stock battery life from .605. I'm running PSX roms fine on the OS. Didn't run much off earlier ones but it sounds like you had a program conflict or something of that nature.
The first time around I could have definitely attributed the lag to a program conflict. But the second time around I ran it bare w/no prior OS data and still had the lag. It wasn't terrible, but after running CM7 with ZERO lag, I couldn't see running this phone (or any future phone) with any lag. I guess I'll pass here

It says wifi works, but I'm unable to start it. If I open the wifi menu, it sits on starting wifi until I rotate the screen, then it picks up no networks. If I enable it, then open the wifi menu, it still picks up no networks.
I've tried with my ad hoc network and my neighbor's infrastructure. This problem is identical to what I experienced on my D1, and there everyone said it worked fine for them too
