Default No root method on 621 yet?

I'm on 621 stock, and forgot how annoying the car dock app launching on its own is. I'm surprised there isn't some kind of rom or root app yet, I know devs moved on but there's gotta be a way.

Motorola closed off all known root exploits. ALL of them. It was described to me as a "slaughter". Unless or until someone comes up with something else all we can do is curse Moto. They're making the rounds to all of the of the phones with these phony "feature fix" updates so we'll have company soon. The D2 and D3 have already joined us.

You will keep root on .621 by using OTA Rootkeeper until something messes up and you bootloop and you have to SBF again. Then it will be gone for good.

I can confirm OTA rootkeeper works with the update, and can also confirm it will NOT, I repeat NOT work for the SBF

Tried this, the SBF file is legit, but you will not be able to activate service on the verizon network. did not try to root while on this, since it would still do no good to have a device without phone service.
The root does not work with the .621 SBF
It was, however, a good try and shows us there is a possibility that we can eventually get off this version.

People have been figuring out exploits for every iOS version for the iPhone since it came out, and I seriously doubt Motorola figured something out this quick that has been eluding Apple. Now, if it never gets rooted because devs just don't care, that's not a win for Motorola really, just a fail for the devs. I've never rooted my DX, but I wouldn't mind having the option, so hope it happens before I just go get a new phone, lol!

Sounds like it's pretty much sorted out now. IMPORTANT Information Regarding .621 System Update! - RootzWiki

At least one person who didn't have a working radio, called VW and they changed something in the office that fixed it.

It's all on the cd so no need to worry about anything.

You boot off the cd, follow the directions and you're done.

Yes, this is completely seperate from the operating system you currently have, it boots from the cd and will be isolated from your current system.
When you boot, you need to watch for the "f" key you need to press when booting, it is commonly "f2", but some are different. At that point, you will be prompted to choose the boot device you want, either cd, disc drive or usb, selct the drive by using the arrow keys, and you're set.

Ok, slowly getting there.. lol Thanks for the responses.. I have unbunto 11.10 up and running off a USB drive. I have the two files on the USB as well. When I open the terminal, and try the command prompts for getting the files off the USB, it seems to not work. Also, should I go ahead and plug the droid in in Bootloader mode? I am trying to just download the two files through unbuntu with the mozilla browser, but it seems way slow.. Also, if I get the rooted Milestone on my droid, will it eventually be a droid again after I flash a rom from CWM? I am a total newb, and rooted before all this with a one click root so I really never understood just what I did. I like the feel of Unbuntu and would enjoy learning more about it for sure. Could I build a pc and just put this Linux on it instead of the expensive Windows and see similar results? I know thats off topic, but I wonder if my PC games would play on this..

Totally confused... In the terminal, I have been trying the commands listed, but it tells me no such file or directory. I have the two file in the Downloads folder, and on the Unbunto desktop, but it seems to not want to work for me...

do you have to put spaces in when entering commands in the terminal? the commands are just not working.. I saw another thread similar to the one posted in this forum that was a bit more clear with the commands, but of course cannot find it now... is there a way to do this that is easy so a caveman can do it?

What guide are you using? These are the ones I'd use:

Those are the ones... I just found another post:

6.21 Rootable SBF Apparently Found! - RootzWiki - Page 8 (see the 76th post by bmt11)

it shows typing "sudo" just before the second command, something I have not tried yet... will see if that makes the difference..

That was the ticket... sudo in front of the second command. Now, just to see how it works, its doing it's thing right now..

Seems to not want to take Z4root.. keeps force closing after about 30 seconds.... when I try it again the program won't run. (APK program from phone.) I tried the install froma a computer and that didn't work either. After it fails it botches things up to where a factory reset only through the recovery will work, force closes when u try to do it though the phone program... will try and re-sbf later and see if that helps, unless any ideas... I followed all directions with the settings and so forth so I confused not.. So close to being rooted again..

z4root does not work on Gingerbread. There should be some other root method in those threads (I forget what it is called).

You have to use Zergrush to root .604.

Oh ok.... well, I originally used the one in the file, named Doomlord... when I installed it it was called z4.... I'm trying rooting with Gingerbreak APK now... since the build is 604, will post back if that works..

Doom lord is the author of Zergrush. Just make sure you have the latest v4. I posted a link to it on another thread.

Default Also

I had to reSBF .621 and then SBF .604 before I could root .604. Don't know why but it worked. If Zerg isn't working, you may want to try that.

Thankyou very much.... now that I am reading a bit more, I think I might of realized something....

I took the OTA to .621...without waiting a few days first like an idiot.

then ran the Milestone SBF method thru Ubunto.

I am on Milestone successfully. Root is not working though.

From what it sounds like, I should of re-SBF'd to .621, even though I was already on it? If so, is that why the root isn't taking?

Because the z4 root is saying it cannot find the path specified about 50 times.

Should I SBF to .621 and then do the process over again?

It's strange because I am using the z4 root, thru the pc, and it acts like it wants to work, but says it cannot find the path..

Nope there is it works fine and you are rooted. Its not truly .621 as you flash a .604 firmware, but it allows you to gain root and flash away.
