Doesn't allow you to activate service on the verizon network, tried several different times, no dice.
Was not able to SBF to earlier versions from this, but SBF back to .621 worked just fine.
Almost there, kids!

It also changes you to a MilestoneX. Not sure what the implications are of that tho.

So this brings up another interesting question. Since the DX isn't getting the ICS update BUT the Milestone X is at some point this year. If flashing this SBF to your X essentialy turns it into a Milestone X, would that meen it would be able to be updated with ICS? Or at the very least some variation of it?

Good question. I was not aware of that.

Maybe you need to flash fix to work with SW Cellular to make it work.

Radio file is: BP_C_01.09015P
Another issue arose with this "updated" SBF.... I lost ALL data communication and have just returned from the Verizon store with a new RAZR, since I can't live without data.
I don't recommend trying this file unless you really know how to fix this sort of thing.

It hasn't really been said that the Milestone will get an official ICS update. It's still in the "evaluation and planning" stage along with a slew of other devices.

Was your foot in your mouth? That's my usual problem.

This is what has worked:

I have a leaked/new version of RSD Lite. It's 5.6.4.7..( http://forum.xda-dev...d.php?t=1348587 download the rsd lite version that is in the bottom of the page.)

The steps I did were:

Stock 621 - as many
Shut down, turn on to bootloader (press camera button, both + & - buttons and power button at the same time..then let go of them when the screen "flashes")
Plugged in the X
Started the rootable sbf flash
It said it failed after code group 65
Unplugged X
It turned on by itself in about 5 seconds of being unplugged
It started good, it had 3G, Calls, SMS after it rebooted.

That's all I did.. No hard, confusing stuff. I hope this works for you as it did for me!

******
EDIT: I thought it could of been that maybe it was a lucky shot, so I sbf'd back to 621 and redid the steps as I said above, and it still worked and was able to root. My guess is it works because of the newer version of rsd lite. That's all I can think of. I hope you all try this as it worked for me twice.

2. Made sure phone was working correctly.
3. Downloaded the SBF file in post #1
4. Downloaded the sbf_flash from http://blog.opticald...5/sbfflash.html
5. Made a Linux Mint DVD from this site: Download - Linux Mint
6. Copied the SBF file and the sbf_flash to my hard drive in an easy to find folder

Rebooted computer with the Linux DVD in.

It automatically booted up into Linux Mint

1. Copied the SBF and sbf_flash file from the hard drive into the "Home" folder on the desktop
2. Opened a terminal window
3. Typed: chmod +x sbf_flash
4. Put my Droid X into bootloader and then plugged it into computer
5. Typed: sudo ./sbf_flash SBFFILENAME.sbf
6. Let it do its thing

Once it is done, your phone will reboot, and you should have a working phone.

Reboot your computer, take DVD out so it boots into Windows

Use the rooting method in post #1 to root your phone.

All done. Worked for me, hope it works for others.

Just to be clear, in step one when you say you SBF'd to .621, I assume you are referring to the .621 in this thread (the "patched" .621)?

Based on your approach, I assume that means since this patched .621 is rootable it also then must allow SBF to earlier version (which you then rooted)?

This is awesome news !

Default The fix is.604 not .621

The thing is that you have to blank reinstall the evil .621 to factory "as is." Then you can patch the .604 version through the bootloader. Then hit the .604 version with crazy zerglings and bam, you are rooted at .604. BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO FLASH WITH WINDOWS!. YOU MUST FLASH WITH LINUX OR YOUR PHONE AND DATA WILL BE SCREWED! Also if you do not reflash the .621 version before you install the .604 version, you can't get root on .604. Don't have any clue why, but I finally got it working. All steps must be followed exactly or no dice.

1. Create Linux boot USB Universal USB Installer Easy as 1 2 3 | USB Pen Drive Linux

2. Re SBF .621 .621 SBF Posted

3. SBF patched .604 6.21 Rootable SBF Apparently Found! - RootzWiki

4. root with zerg [04/Jan][ROOTING/UNROOTING] DooMLoRD's Easy Rooting Toolkit [v4.0](zergRush Exploit) - xda-developers

5. install bootstrapper
6. wipe data\cache\davlik
7. install CM9 Index of /cm9dx
8. ENJOY!

P.S. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT YOU OR ANYONE ELSE FOR THAT MATTER DOES TO YOUR PHONE! I AM ALSO NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SOLAR WIND, BLACKS HOLES, OR AND OTHER INTERSTELLAR PHENOMENA YOU MAY ENCOUNTER WHILE DOING ANYTHING TO YOUR PHONE!

I order to SBF to the stock .621, do I type the same commands in Ubunto terminal that I did to flash to Milestone rom, with exception of the exact file name?

do I use the zip file as the file to direct to, or a file within the zip, like I had to do with the Milestone (mb809-2.3.5.sbf)? I don't see any file that looks like this in the .621 sbf zip..

So, what you are saying, is that I can remame the sbf file within the zip, to something short, and direct the terminal to that file, not the zip correct?

Nevermind, I think I'm getting this.. I changed the sbf file name to 621.sbf and the other to 604ms.sbf... flashing to stock 621 as I type. From there I will reflash to 604 and try to root. Thanks again for all your answers, as well as anybody else.

Well, I am having plenty of luck flashing 621 to 604, but for some reason the root is not taking. I have all the settings like they should be but keep getting the errors... see my screeny.

Yeah that's what it said to me before I had reinstalled the .621 sbf. I would wipe the heck out of everything so you are working on a clean system. Then sbf .621 then sbf .604 and try again. Something is hanging around that is giving you major grief. If it makes you feel any better it took me 6 hours on Sunday to learn enough of the quirks to make it happen.

Yes, it's frustrating, because I can smell root....lol I will try a factory reset throught the phone, then wipe again through the recovery and try again.... I also re-downloaded the 604 rom and will see if that might help... Hopefully it will take soon..

Everything worked fine for me. I am rooted with on .604 . Everything seems to be working except MMS messages will not go through. I have gone through the .621 sbf, .604 sbf, then rooted twice now and still can't get MMS to work. I get "message not sent". Anyone else with this issue?

Default Sounds like

you need to wipe it all, then use Windows to sbf .621 then linux install .604 to reset all of you radios and system stetting to factory. It will take 45 to an hour but at least you know it will be fixed. It should be working properly.

Sorry to but in, but is it ok to SBF to 621 through Linux? Thats what I've been doing, but it seems my stuff is working... haven't received any mms so maybe I'll have a friend send me something to see if its working. I had originally taken the OTA 621, then went to 604 through linux... since then I borked it up a few times and have been using Linux for everything except the Zerg rooting after 604..

From what I understand, the official way is to flash .621 via RSD lite (or take the ota) and .604 via Linux. RSD Lite will flash things like radio, that Linux does not.

If you've already done it correctly the first time (RSD or OTA to .621), I would think you'd be ok with just Linux after that tho.

Default Yes

The difference is that using windows updates the radio and the .604 radio doesn't work in America. So using Windows for .621 id fine, just not for .604.

The problem comes from using RSD lite (instead of Linux) to flash .604 or not using OTA or RSD lite to flash .621.

You're not doing that so no, you won't have trouble.

Voodoo, that's exactly what I did and i have done it twice. Another thing is that the first time I did it I had had the problem (can't send MMS) so I installed Liquid GB ROM and then I was able to send MMS. I didn't care much for Liquid so I installed CM9 and MMS also worked. I didn't want to stay with CM so I wanted to go back to .604. I used linux to go back to sbf .604 but after that it went into boot loop. So I went into stock recovery mode and reset all (wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache) and did exactly what you said above and I am back to rooted .604 but still no MMS messaging. Sounds like others are not having this problem so must be just me. Oh well, I will just keep playing with it. Thanks for all of the suggestions so far.

Default Maybe you have a corrupt .604 download.

I would download that again.

Probably getting MMS errors on stock because VPN settings are incorrect on the .604 SBF since its an nTelos system version. Verizon will still recognize it for 3G, etc but some settings are incorrect. You can either flash a ROM to correct or edit your VPN settings.

Default .604 mms

I sbf my droid x to .604 using linux and then rooted using zerg successfully. Everything works except MMS. Does anyone have a fix for this?

I think you need to flash an aftermarket ROM to get MMS to work.

peppermintprb, YES! Another person with my problem! Glad I am not alone. LOL I tried voodoo's suggestion of re-downloading and got the same results...still no MMS.

Goose, do you mean APN settings?

ylexot, there has got to be a way other then a custom ROM. What does a custom ROM replace on the 604 sbf?

I'd bet there is a way, but I haven't seen anybody figure it out yet.

BTW, you might want to look at what people who converted their Droid X's over to Cricket Wireless had to do to get MMS to work. The fix is probably similar, but with Verizon information instead of Cricket.

LOL yeah. I bet the APN settings are nTelos. Changing those to Verizon settings would probably resolve? I could try if you need a guinea pig, I'm on .604, I'm just running Gummy right now though, and didn't bother making a nandroid of .604, so I'd have to SBF back and look. But I'm pretty sure that's all that would be needed. The other thing that was mentioned about flashing to different providers involves using CDMA Workshop, and that shouldn't be necessary. That's for changing info in the radio (NV values, etc; tower and data provisioning provider, etc.) - APN would be a pretty easy fix though. Or if you want a blur-based ROM I patched most of them to work on .621; you have to manually enter in some WIFI info to get it to work correctly (Milestone X kernel doesn't speak right to WIFI hardware on blur-based ROMs, not sure why) - but that would be another feasible option and you'd still be on blur as well.

BTdubs, 1KDS has a linux disc out that does the .604 root and zergrush, super easy. Just burn the disc and boot, and after about 3-4 key presses your SBF'd and rooted, easy peazy. May want to add a link to that in the OP.

Thanks goose, tell me the steps that you think will work and I will try them. I really like the swype word suggestion showing up across the top of the kbd in 604. Can't do that with regular droid x 621 or previous sbfs. I could live without mms if I absolutely had to but dangit I want it working! Lol especially since everything else is working fine (except overclocking apps but that's ok)

Welp it may be a bit more involved than I thought. Usually what you do is go to Wireless & Networks -> Advanced (I think, it says you can set APNs) and then hit menu and it'll pull up to add an APN. That's how it works on stock... but on .604 when you hit Menu nothing comes up at all. I went into the APN files in root explorer (found in /system) their editable xml files, everything looked legit already for Verizon but I went ahead and made a few modifications to make sure, rebooted, and it didn't fix it I'mma keep looking at it. In the interim if you need MMS you can always flash the stock-debloated-605 ROM, you just need to do the WIFI fix but everything else is tops AFAIK.

[ROMS] Multi-ROM Thread - Blur-Based ROMs for those on .621/.604! - RootzWiki

I'll dig into it a bit more. I nandroided the .604 system so I can pull it apart on my computer (blur just absolutely drives me nuts! lol) but I'm doing it between work/college/girlfriend/other development stuff/etc. I would eventually like to get the build.prop fixed as well if I can.
