Default Will factor reset allow me to root .621

I have never rooted my device. Currently I have version .621 which can't be rooted without flashing a European ROM.

Can I factory reset my device and root the base Android version?

a factory reset wont allow you to but if you sbf to milestone .304 using this
http://goo.gl/WBnOy Download - 1KDStaz_MX_4.5.604.iso it automatically roots and it is not a european rom it is the european firmware

So once I install/root the Milestone firmware using the above iso, then what? I assume I need to install something else to get the phone working on Verizon again. Is the previous-to-621 firmware available and can be flashed? I'd be happy with that and rooted. I assume I can use Titanium Backup to turn off the auto-updater.
