Thanks for the information. When I got to the point where it said, "Your phone will reboot now and then the rooting process will continue, " I got stuck on the red "M" logo a couple of times and had to do some battery pulls. Eventually, the program continued and my phone was successfully rooted.

did you verify md5 checksum before mounting iso image to disc?
MD5 & SHA-1 Checksum Utility: verify the hash checksum to ensure the file integrity is correct with the matching file
Droid2_D2G_DX_DX2-RootCD-2012.iso
md5 Hash:7BAEE9C34F6EF7AD0B4FA219AE387C68
sha-1 Hash: 6D2A2019D746BBBCF0A92FFB60305B793381EDA6

if that is correct, it's your pc, usb cable, and/or phone
but now that you are rooted, doesn't matter, till next time

im removing stuff with titanium bckp and found this at the end of the list.

фоновые рисунки:аудиовиэуаj <<--can i remove it? is it needed for the root? or is a virus?

the icons on the side are a phone and an orange happy face..

it has no "run app" option, but does has the backuop and uninstall button..

Default DroidX 4.5.621.MB810.Verizon.en.US flashed to Cricket//How do I root?

Hi. I went to Cricket store with my Verizon DroidX and paid $15 to connect this phone to an already existing line and also had it flashed instore.

Since then after I text more than a couple lines of texts I start having multiple problems. First, it alerts me on my phone that it is not sent. I try to re-send to no avail.

Secondly, supposedly it jumbles up my texts to weird symbols to whoever I am sending it to after approximately two text lines. Anything before it seems to send just fine.

I was hoping I could root my phone and hope that it solves the problem and also want to get tethering so that I can use the internet on my laptop off of my phone.

Thanks for anyone that can help!

don't think rooting will help you
have you tried handscent for texts?

Yes did Handcents and it didn't help. Still after a couple lines of texts it sends the text to whoever I sent it to in jumbled letters/symbols. Then it shows "not sent". I try to re-send and it does the same thing. When I shorten my text then it sends.

If it wasn't a feature I use to death then I probably wouldn't be so adamant about trying to find corrective action.

Also, instead is flashing my phone from Verizon to Cricket the same is rooting? I am wondering if I could have done it myself without paying to get it flashed. Thanks.

no flashing to cricket is not the same as rooting
and i suspect that flashing to cricket, is causing your texting issue

I read this thread and had the night by myself soooooooooooooooo...........lol

Thank you so much The trusty old DX was put away and i have been using my S3 but decided to root. I had root prior to .621 and flashed lots of roms but gave up on things when the over the air came. My camera button is broken so i could not root anyway until i read your rooting method. I saw that i could root without using the camera button
This worked 100%. Again, thank you so much. If i ever need a backup phone, i now can use my DX (needed root to use the Droid Firewall to stop data use).

Default Updating to CM7.2 or CM9 beta on a 621 rooted phone

Thanks to the assistance of CoolPeote & others I got my DroidX to work on 621, including working wifi. I pretty much haven't done much with it since. Now I'm looking to get service through page plus cellular, so I'm back trying to see if I can update the phone to cm7.2 or cm9 beta.

Before I make an attempt, I want to be sure of one thing: all of the instructions I find say to "place the CyanogenMod update.zip in the root of the SD card". However, there isn't a single place on the cyanogenMod site for such a file, they're all named somethingElse.zip. Is it simply a matter of renaming the nightly or release build file of my choice from whatever.zip to update.zip?

One thread said he tried that and it failed. Also, if that is the procedure it surprises me nobody lists the rename step. Equally surprising is a lack of the update.zip file so many threads mention.

I've got the hammer cocked and am ready to pull the trigger, just want to know before I do the gun isn't going to blow up in my face.

Default Managed to get cm7.1 installed

I had found your guide & read it before I posted the note here. Its hard to find a source for cm, but managed to. I downloaded cm-7-20121209-NIGHTLY-shadow.zip, Pooka-CM4DX-GB-20120519.zip and CM9-beta-DX-08122012.zip Of these I was only able to successfully install Pooka, which was a cm 7.1 rom.

I was previously running the 4.5...621, which is a 2.3.4 gb kernel. After the Pooka install the kernel was 2.6.32.9-g1282440..., built May 20, 2012. The Android version is 2.3.7

Going from memory since last July, I recall I cannot sbf to anything earlier than .621, so that is my starting point. Is that correct?

I don't recall how I managed to install .apk files from sdcard when on .621 last July, but somehow managed to. After installing Pooka I still had that issue, but just installed afresh from market using wifi.

What is the latest CM I can install on my droidX, and what prevents me from updating the kernel if anything? Although I can't go back earlier than 621, I would like to go forward to ics or beyond as newer code becomes available.

I presume the locked bootloader is no longer an issue, now that exploits have been found to circumvent it. Or are those exploits limited to work only on the gb kernel?

I must admit I'm still a bit confused about the whole "locked bootloader" problem. If the bootloader is separate from the kernel and is in essence in non-updatable ROM, seems like anything could be loaded with the exploits found.

kernel can not be changed
2.3.4 & 2.3.7 are android versions not kernel versions
edit: think kernel name can be changed, but don't have details

there will not be any official update, so stuck with gb kernel, think there is a cm9(ics), but latest working rom is MIUI DefX by Wizard0f0s

When I said "CM" I meant CyanogenMod, not Clockwork Manager. However, the rest of your post generally gave me the answer, CM9. Since the DroidX is currently limited to GB kernels, it puts a cap on the CyanogenMod versions available, as they are tied to specific kernel requirements.

And based on what I've read about CM9Beta, it seems to suck battery, so CM7.1 might be the best - latest version.

I have yet to look at other ROMs, like the very popular Mui, or Liberty ...

I might be an expert computer geek but far from a phone power user.

that's not quite right, several moto phones have cm10 now on gb kernel, M2, DX2, D3.... , it's just not easy and may never be fully working roms

Default Rooted!! Now?

Hi. Thank God for these forums bc I would have probably totally screwed my phone. LOL. I successfully rooted my Droid x. Not sure what I need to do next. The reason I rooted was so that I would be able to flash my phone to cricket. I know you have to root it first. So I got that far. Do I need to change the ROM? I have been calling cricket trying to set the account up and the village idiot there insists that I have to flash the phone first. However... From all that I have read it seems to me that you need the phone number on the cricket account before you can even flash it... Thanks for your help....

only directions I remember seeing on flashing to cricket is
How to flash Verizon's Droid X2 to Cricket
and that's for DX2
think most people take their phone to someone who already has to software and knowledge
but if you do get it flashed and working, your self, let me know please

First, thanks for developing the root program, additionally thank you for checking the threads you created months later.

I had looked into rooting my X a few months ago and either I didn't find this method or it wasn't released yet so I just sort of gave up.I decided to give it another shot and I found your files but I'm having a little trouble after rebooting into the bootloader, after I hit enter I get this sequence

press Enter to continue
unzipping and flashing files
killed
siltaz GNU/Linux kernel 2.6.6 - siltaz TTY1
siltaz login:

and then nothing happens, I'm assuming that computer isn't communicating with the phone so I tried it in PC Mode instead of charge only and got the same results. I was considering reformatting the phone back to factor setting and try again but I though I'd see if you had any additional insight first.

ok I number the steps
program is getting stuck @ step 4?

1. select DX
don't use numbers on right side of your keyboard, just use the ones above qwerty

2. turn phone on, connect to pc with usb cable

check usb debugging (settings/apps/development)
select charge only usb mode in top status bar

3. press continue
adb will push
Code:
data/local.prop /data/preinstall_md5/magic.md5
program will prompt you to
4. manually reboot phone to bootloader (Hold volume up+down buttons and power button, or hold Vol.Down and Camera and wait for the screen to flash)
program will will be flash repacked sbf (less than 50mb)
5. Program will reboot phone twice, very important (reboot just replaces the local.prop, but the old local.prop is still in memory, till second reboot)
6. adb pushes su,superuser, and busybox
7. program will reboot to recovery,
manually wipe cache (should auto reboot to recovery, at android andy press both volume buttons, if it doesn't press home button and hold it in then press your power button, hold it in also till you see a triangle on the screen w/ android andy then press both volume buttons)
then select reboot
rooted

Yeah, it seems to be. it seems like the scripts getting killed after it attempts to flash the files, I guess I'm not really sure. But it's definitely not proceeding to step five.

Quote:
1. select DX
That's screen's giving me three options
1. Flash MB810 2.3.4 SBF
2. Root
3. Shutdown

I've selected 2 (unless your talking about a different menu, but I haven't seen one)

phone is running 2.3.4 \4.5.621?
you verified md5 check sum of the. iso?

if those are correct, some times flashing sbf, is the only thing that seems to fix

could be hardware conflict, you can try cd or usb thumb drive, disconnect all usb devices except keyboard and thumb drive, stock moto usb data cable, use rear usb ports not hub or front, different pc/mac

md5 checks out, tried flashing the sbf only to get the same sequence (killed) so I'm assuming I'm having an issue with the usb on the laptop I'm using. My desktop doesn't seem to load off of the CD ROM drive (I'm going to fiddle with that tomorrow) and I can't seem to successfully burn it to a flash drive and I'll try that again too.

I'll keep you posted

[ROOT] Framaroot, a one-click .apk to root
I have verified it works with these Motorola devices running android 2.3.4
Droid 2 (a955), Droid 2 Global (a956), R2D2 (a957), & Droid X (MB810)

Just download, allow unknown sources, install, open, select top root method (Gimli), reboot phone, done

no pc needed.

For anyone still rooting a Droid X, be aware that you may have a hardware issue. I'm working on two Droid Xs today. One of them rooted no problem with Framaroot. The other one refuses to root even though Super SU does install. They're identical other than one having a newer preferred roaming list.

If Framaroot doesn't work, it may be time to give up.

Or use magic md5 root, or wipe data, flash sbf, retry rooting
