I finally got my tracking notice, but I learned today that Verizon is completely out of control with how they fill orders placed for their phones on release day. Folks that ordered after noon today had tracking information within an hour. Yet I had to worry and upset myself that I wouldn't get my phone on Friday after staying up until 1:00 a.m. to place my order last night. It was after 6:00 p.m. before I got my email with my tracking information.
Several years ago I worked for VZW on the team that processed Internet orders. I can tell you that there is a method to their madness... certain types of orders take priority over others. If your order is coded as overnight it'll get shipped before those that are coded as two day. And then there is the question of why some orders are submitted with two day shipping when all X orders should be shipped overnight. The answer is that it's just simply user error or lack of understanding of their systems.

If your on FedEx.com trying to track your shipment by reference (order) number you got with your purchase email, it doesn't work. You get a new order number with your shipment confirmation, and it doesn't work in the reference tracking either. I have a tracking number, and it shows shipped. I tried a track by reference with BOTH order numbers after I had my tracking number, and they just don't work. Just letting you know that is futile.
But keep your hopes up, it took 19.5 hours from order to shipment confirmation for me.
And we all want to buy phones from these guys?
I ordered mine at 1:15 AM EST in Ohio. I was freaking out because I still hadn't recieved a tracking #. I just got my email confirmation and Fedex tracking # at 7:15 PM EST!

My order tracking at Verizon still says " Order Status: Your order has been processed and will be shipped based on inventory availability and shipping method. You will receive shipment notification and tracking details via email." So there may still be hope for some of you guys. Mine is shipping out of Memphis.
Funny thing is the order number that is in the tracking email is not either of my order numbers LOL. I am just soooo used to getting screwed by phone companies it isn't funny any more. Although it did take roughly 14 to 16 hours to get my tracking info. from the time I placed my order for the X online around 1ish. So maybe my accessories I ordered this morning will do the same. Funny thing is on the VZW website neither order is listed as shipped. FML
yeah my order number didnt match the tracking order number either...the tracking order number was listed as a ACE...order number..threw me for a big ole loop...until I saw the Reference number further down the email that matched my VZW order number...

I just got the email from Verizon. Confirmed via FedEx website shipping out for deliver tomorrow. I'll have it in my hands by 8am (I work for FedEx). But I won't get to play with it till 11pm (work, dinner plans).
I ordered online at 2am CDT this morning. So they are still updating orders.

Good) I ordered my phones online at 3:15pm EST today. When ordering, it said that I would get overnight so long as the order was placed before 4:30pm local. So, I was good, right?
Also good) Well, I decide to call at about 4:15 to see if anyone knew anything about my order. The guy I spoke to had no info and couldn't even tell what I had ordered from his screens. He assured me that it would still most likely go out today and that I should expect shipping confirmation soon.
Bad) Same guy calls me back about an hour later and says that all online orders placed after 2:30pm EST were being placed on a 'soft' hold, or something like that and that it should ship by the 23rd or so. This is no good as I am flying out for a couple weeks on Monday.
Really bad) Called every store for miles and nothing. None online, none available through Verizon online, or by phone. I'm hosed, right?
After going back and forth (for a long while) with Verizon and a local store, I decide to just cancel the order and drive to the store to get the phones sent overnight to have them by Saturday.
Good again, really good) At about 8pm I was pulling out of my neighborhood on my way to VZW. I picked my phone up to call Verizon and cancel my online order. I look at the phone and see that I have an email. It was the shipping confirmation. The phones will be here by 4:30 tomorrow.
Now I am pumped again and can finally put these Erises out to pasture.
I gotta say, the Verizon CSRs were amazing through the whole deal. I understand that the shortage is not their fault, but they all took ownership and did whatever they could to take care of the situation. They even did a few things for me that I wasn't expecting and it was appreciated.

Part of the problem is that Verizon, up till roughly midnight, as far as I can tell, always had "Free overnight Shipping on online orders" Advertised prominently. All the sudden that was gone, and in it's place 2 choices were given for shipping:
Free 2nd day Fedex
and
Overnight by 3:00 Pm for $8.99
This was somewhat confusing since it is normally free overnight. So, I personally didn't want to risk it, since I am leaving early Monday on a Mission trip. So I opted to pay for the $8.99 overnight (hoping that maybe they would not actually charge for it)
Turns out they did charge me for it, but I emailed them asking what happened to free overnight, and I got an email back explaining it was a mistake, and they would refund the charge.
How is this for a twist in things....I ordered at 12:25 a.m. EST and Verizon told me about 5 hours ago that my order was delayed and shipping on 7/23 and now almost 24 after ordering I receive an email with a tracking number. Hmmmm doesn't anyone work on the same page anymore? Anyways Droid X finally shipped!
For those of you whose orders were not fulfilled, you may want to reconsider? Now that the phone is out, I went to my local Verizon Wireless store to actually pick one up, see how it feels, how it operates, etc. One word: HUGE!
There's no way I could carry a brick like this in my jeans' front pockets. I suppose that there are some larger folks out there who can squeeze it in, but unfortunately, I'm not one of them unless I were to gain a sudden appreciation for gangsterishly-baggy jeans.
Looks like I'll still be searching for a smaller Android phone when my New Every 2 comes up in Oct. And, yes, I'm aware of the DInc, but I'm not a fan of it's short battery life. If anyone knows of a smaller, yet still mighty, Droid coming out in the next 3-4 months, please inform me. Thanks!

Go by your tracking info via FedEx, don't waste your time with Verizon's "Order Status" page. My order wasn't even showing up when I entered the info, and after speaking to a rep, it was confirmed by them that the order had shipped and that they would send me the tracking info...and sure enough, they did.
I got an email about my order being placed around 8:30am est, about 3:35pm I got my tracking #.
Its still in Memphis according to FedEx, I dont believe it. It takes 3 hours by plane to get to nyc. Who knows they still have ten or so hours to deliver the package. I bet its on a plane right now winging its way to me.

So wait. I thought you received two messages from VZW?
You should have automatically received a receipt when you placed the order. The other is confirmation of shipping which should provide some tracking number and a link to FedEx to start tracking it...

ordered online at 7am est from MI. Got my tracking number at 6-ish, lrft TN and will be here tomorrow by 3pm. Hopefully sooner, the fedex truck usually gets here around 11 for regular shipping

That has happened to me before and I ended up getting the tracking number after I received my phone, I would like to tell you that it shipped and you should see it today now. But don't get mad at me if it isn't.
I think ones that ordered last night are screwed i have friends that ordered during the fire sale of 32gb cards and they all received info on shipping while we all still wait!
I got my tracking # 8 hrs ago and it's still in the Initiated status and hasn't been picked up and won't be getting it til Monday :| This is why they should have started the orders on WEDNESDAY so they gotten here before the weekend.

When I tried to order it, it wanted to charge 149 so i called and for the next 3 hours worked my way through the maze of no help customer care till i found one they ordered it for 99.99 with two day and then applied a 50 credit towards it. they would not apply accessory discount i get to it. So i called back later and the next rep applied another 49.99 for all my trouble with order process, so except for tax it will be free.

Yes, you can pick-it up at your local delivery hub once at least ONE DELIVERY ATTEMPT has been made on the address you indicated.
I believe they will re-attempt delivery at least twice before sending it back. You can also call up your local delivery hub and ask them to hold the package for you. You will just need to show up, give them your id, sign for the package, and be on your merry way with some X goodness

Oh ok thank god it's not just me! I thought something was wrong....usually it's in charlotte NC overnight and then its on truck to mooresville by early morning. Let's hope everything works out.
At first glance it's strange, but I've seen this with orders I've placed before. I know Memphis houses Verizon's largest warehouse, and because of its size I'm sure orders go through several channels before they actually "ship"
If you look at the times, there is only an hour in which three processes occur. I wouldn't worry, especially considering it doesn't have to go far to you. I on the other hand had my order ship from CA, and I'm in VA...

If it arrives at the station this morning, but doesn't go out for delivery, it is put in a container with all the other Monday shipments. Depending on the size of the station, it may be easy or hard for them to get to individual shipments. Call 1-800-GOFEDEX and ask if you can pick it up. If CS says no, you might as to speak to the station directly.
Ordered yesterday just after 5am w/VZN CS, (this was a replacement for my Dinc that had no signal) received an order number around lunch time, called CS last night to get a tracking # and was told estimated to ship July 23rd
