Mad Whats your beef with the X?

1. Cases are not compatible with the car kit. This is super ghey. I am really dissapointed in that because I LOVE the look of the clear snap on case but that damn thing is so hard to remove to put on the car dock that I had to return it for the black hard silicone case (which I actually quite like now but its not as aesthetically pleasing as the clear snap case) I am in the car 9 hours a day so the phone will be sitting in the car kit a lot.
2. Battery life is mediocre. I payed with it for 2 hours after I got it and it needed life support. 5 more hours of playing (including using the GPS with the car kit and charger attatched) and it needed a boost again from the charger.
3. The wall charger is short as ****!
4. I had to pull the battery 4 times today due to the phone freezing. WTF!?!?!?
5. It does run hot. I DLed a battery app that measured the battery temp at 107 degrees at one point.
6. Disappointed with initial camera quality (hoping the software update fixes this)

Overall I am satisfied and maybe a nice good overnight charge will do the trick and I'll go from satisfied to elated. Now if it stops freezing all together I'll be blown away.

I almost forgot number 7. The speaker phone/ringer volume is WEAK! Not even half the volume of my last phone, the original Storm. I'm going to have to keep that phone as an alarm clock.

No freezing here and decent battery life so far. Are you letting it charge fully? Did you set the camera quality to maximum and turn on auto focus? Yes it's going to get warm - that's normal.

Check your apps and running services and stop all the ones you added to troubleshoot the freezing issue. Like I said I haven't had one freeze yet and I've been playing with it all day - still am . Hopefully you're not using a task killer. If you are I'd get rid of it asap.

Motorola should have used the same speaker as the one in the original Moto Droid.

my battery life is pretty great on the first charge compared to the dinc, which was my only previous smartphone

probably obvious to some put putting the phone on the lowest backlight (fine in most situations) saves a shit ton of battery

Things im not really liking about the X.

Battery life
moto blur / just give me a decent clock and a good calendar.
Charging is slow
Camera is worse than the incredible
nearly impossible to use custom roms.
Ring tones are really quiet / at max settings
I cant hear the turn by turn navigation

The screen is freaking awesome, i love the size.

Take this at face value.. I paid full retail for the phone, so im going to be sort of picky.

If i got it at the 199.00 price then i could live with a few of the issues, as im sure the updates will fix most if not all issues.

Im about 90% sure im returning it tomm.

Hopefully nobody will take great offence to this.

I paid full retail as well, for what it's worth my battery life has been incredible. It also only took perhaps 2-3 hours to charge back to 100% from a low of 40%. Were you using the wall charger? Charging from a PC?

The stock ringtones suck as far as volume goes I agree, but then again the stock ringtones really suck period lol.. I loaded up the same ringtone that I have used for months on my original Droid and it is very loud!

Finally about the rom thing, come on it's only day 1 lol! Anyway, I think you should do whatever is best for you, good luck!

This is where the charging dock comes in handy...long cord and visible screen.

The only problem that I have with it is Moto's UI. I wasn't really satisfied by it. LauncherPro though is awesome! Love it.

My biggest gripe is the small buttons for volume and camera. With the soft case on you can't use them. Also, why did they put the power in the middle instead of on the sides? Kinda silly. They all are sending small USB cords now so I picked up a few long ones from online

No complaints here. Just goes to show even the best phone on the market IMO and people will complain about something. We have only had this phone for 24 hours now. Give it time learn the quirks about it. I would not return this phone in until I was at the end of my 30 day window. You paid full retail in a phone and then you are willing to pay 35 dollars restocking fee the next day. I'm coming from a Storm and I am completely blown away by this thing. I'm also overwhelmed because I have no idea how to do some stuff that I down pat with the Storm. I'm just researching the hell out of all the tips and tricks threads for android phones and giving it time.

You can not complain about the battery life until you give it a full week of conditioning. ALL BATTERIES SUCK RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX!

And for your number 7 thats the stock ringtones. Yes the volume sucks on them but they sucked anyways. I put my normal ringtones from my last phone on here and they are very LOUD I had to actually turn the ringer down some.

Oh yeah I read an article a couple years back saying that ALL cellphones will have the same power charger by 2011. That way they can start going green and you wont need to get a charger. So If you have gotten a phone with a micro USB charger you can use your past chargers. I didn't even take the charger out of the box I just used my blackberries.

Well, I don't have mine yet. Should be here any minute, though . . . any minute . . .

However, I'm disappointed to hear (previous Moto Droid owner) that they're still giving out that crappy short charger. L-A-M-E! Off to search for alternatives. I can't even have that one plugged in at my bedside without an extension cord.

One thing I noticed regarding this topic was that the default "Picture Resolution" in the camera settings was set to 6MP not 8MP.

I haven't received mine yet..it'll be here today. I have the original Droid - short cord yes. I had a BB storm previously- THAT cord fit my Droid so I use at work. Don't know if it'll fit the X but hope so....

Got my X yesterday morning...tweaked it for all of battery-saving settings I used on my Eris. Finally, the charge was down to 30% from all of my playing with it, so I decided to charge it up.

No real problems or complaints...except one tiny one: where's the battery charging LED indicator (i.e., red when charging, green when done)? Does this phone not have this?

So far my only complaint is the short arse cord that came with the charger...which brings me to a question. Could i use any mini usb cable for that? i guess i could just try it and see.

other than that i need to learn my way around the phone a lot more before i start my list. This is my first Droid.

the pics on my satisfies me. although i'm used to a 2 click camera button.

I don't have any freezing either but I did have the contacts app crash a couple times when trying to change ringtones, not sure why.

My battery is also very good. It was however horrible out of the box. It was dead in 3 hours - around noon. I could even see the battery indicator getting smaller and smaller by just playing with it. It said it was at 50% when I left the store, but I doubt that it was. After charging it for a couple hours (while still playing with it) it was fine the rest of the day. By 11pm I still had like 60%. And for the first day of playing with it a lot that was pretty good!

Agree about the custom ringtones! They are much louder than the stock ones.

Re: the cable - I use the hdmi station (which comes with a long cable go figure) and use it as my alarm clock so the cable length doesn't affect me.

For people who're unhappy with the cable length: Newegg.com - Nippon Labs Black 6 ft. Micro USB Cable A/Male to Micro USB Cable B/Male Model USB-6-Micro

Not a terrible price. Alternatively, you could get a regular USB cable extension, those can be relatively cheap for around 10ft+

My biggest issue right now is the service. It seems too drop the connection quite often. I also don't like that when I go back on a webpage that it doesn't put me where I was on the page previously.

Great point on the battery. By now everyone should know Li-Ion batts take about 10-15 charge cycles to consistantly hold a charge.

I think I actually have a bad battery or something with the USB port. The phone won't always charge when the phone is on. When the phone is off it always charges, but the information it tells me is different that when the phone is on.

This morning when I woke up the battery was at 17% with the phone on and it had been on the charger all night. I then shut down the phone and plugged it in. It then booted into charging mode and was suddenly at 70%. I went and took a shower and when I came back it was at 100%. I then turned it on and plugged it into my computer but it acted as if I didn't hook it up. Then I checked the battery and it was at 80% within a few minutes of it just being 100%. I then took the phone back to wall charger to see if it was an issue with my micro USB cord. It wouldn't charge. I then restarted the phone and plugged back into the computer. Now it is charging but not connecting.

About ten minutes later I head to work. On my way I had the same issue it would not charge with the phone on. I turned the phone off and it restarted into charging mode, but now with 60% charge. Within a 1 hour this phone has gone from 17% charge to 70% to 100% to 80% to 60%. When the fact of the matter is it should of been fully charged when I woke up this morning from it charging for 8 hours over night. Is anybody else having battery issues like this. Is there a way we are suppose to cycle the battery.

When I got to work I was able to plug the phone into my work computer without a hiccup. The phone connected immediately to my work computer and prompted my USB choices and this is using the micro USB from my LG Incite. I have no clue what's going on.

OP, you should have charged it to full before playing with it. These batteries just have enough charge to turn on the phone when they are in the box and that's it. It took mine a while to charge yesterday to get up to full charge, and I proceeded to abuse it for hours in a low signal area with no issues.

Mine doesn't run hot, or at least not through the bodyglove case! :P

Mine froze once; battery pull and it was fine.

zoom out. Menu.selec text. Glide your finger up to the letter on whatever line you wished to copy.

I don't see what people were complaining about. Figures

Mine only charged for an hour in my car after purchase and was full. I ran on smart AllDay. Today im running performance and i really appreciate how beefy this battery is in relation to the overall thinner device

Not a terrible price. Alternatively, you could get a regular USB cable extension, those can be relatively cheap for around 10ft+
lol i was just about to post a link to a new egg cable myself then i saw yours...and glad i did , i forgot i have a couple of extensions here at my desk at work that will be going home with me. Score.

Ok a lot of people are saying the stock ringtones are too quiet but custom ones are ok. Define custom ones because I loaded up all of my mp3's on this sucker and even they don't play loud. I am even using the Ringdroid app to select sections of my own mp3's as a ringtone and they are quiet as well. Same volume as the stockers in fact.

Where should I be getting my ringtones to fix this too quiet issue?

I got mine off of crackberry.com. I don't like having music as my ringtone. so I use tones from there.

So far, it's the physical buttons. I love physical buttons (came from the storm 9530). However, the buttons on the X are way too thin. Feels like it only comes in contact with about 20% of my thumb but I'm not applying the right pressure at the exact spot the button is. I'm hoping it's just something I get used to.

Other than that, and getting used to the Android OS, I'm loving it!

you could try using Audacity on your PC to make a custom ring tone B4 you put it on the phone. Audacity allows you to enhance the audio. for example you can actually amplify it which makes it much louder, add more treble, more bass, wah wah effect..etc...

Glad I could help! I'm fortunate enough to have several 10(ish?) foot standard USB extenders lying around too, so if I need the length, I've got it

I guess the only thing I could complain about is the charger cord, holy crap that is small. I will just buy another one, so no biggie. Heck I probably have one somewhere.

Check your apps and running services and stop all the ones you added to troubleshoot the freezing issue. Like I said I haven't had one freeze yet and I've been playing with it all day - still am . Hopefully you're not using a task

I'm new to android with this phone(as soon as it gets here, HURRY UP FEDEX!!!), why no task killer?

I got the DX after returning my Evo. Have to say the camera in the DX seems fine to me, love the pano software. Not sure why the Evo plays well with flicker and the DX plays well with facebook in terms of uploading pix. You have to do some bozo email pix to flicker thing, much easier with facebook uploads on the DX.

I like the DX screen better. Do not notice any slow or fast thing in terms of DX v Evo, both seem fine to me. I do agree you have to condition the battery, probably takes a week to evaluate battery life.

Probably also need to wait a while to see about rooting, and the bricking and tethering issues. I suspect it may take a while given VZ/MOTO efuse thing, but I will bet these issues get resolved.

For me the biggest thing is the VZ coverage is better in the places I use a phone than Sprint or ATT, and after all coverage is the biggest consideration.

Bottom line is a phone has to fit your life style, first in terms of coverage, and then in terms of how you use it; and so far the DX seems to fit my life style.

I love the X. The quirk I'm trying to figure out is why when I push TODAY in the calendar that the calendar goes back in time by one week each time. Other than that, I haven't experienced the problems others have.

It's really amazing after the BB8830-WE fiasco that cell phone manufacturers do not get that we want LOUD RINGERS with the ability to make them softer for those that do not need the volume.

Personally, I'm on call at my job 1/4th of the time, so when someone calls at 3:00am to fix a server, I need to actually wake up!

As with other phones that had this issue, usually gaining up the MP3 just causes clipping and distortion on the device playing it

My biggest beef with the X? That it made me dump my Droid after only 7 months!!!! Why did this phone have to be so good?

I have some installed apps that don't show up in the app drawer and my Wifi won't stay connected at my house. Sometimes it will and sometimes it won't. I have two routers one a G and one an N and it does the same on both. I've seen threads on other forums about this Wifi issue also.

I installed launcher Pro and ADW, I wasn't really using them (just had them installed) but if I hit Home key the DX kept prompting me for which home I wanted to use, said I didn't have a default on selected. The options were LP or ADW no Blur. The only way around this was installing Home Switcher (or one of those other launcher) and then I had to select Motorola.Blur. On top of that the other launchers didn't show up anywhere else and to uninstall them I had to open the market app and tell it to uninstall from there. Is this how they normally work?

There were other apps that didn't show in the app drawer and the only way I could open them was going to the market app and selected it (it says installed BTW) and then selecting OPEN.

Anyone else have this ? I did do a straight copy of my old SD card and now I'm wondering if I shouldn't have done that as there seems to be little things with apps acting buggy and I had lots of trouble trying to reinstall them.

I might factory reset and start from scratch.

On my BB storm, it was nice to know that if I decided to turn off the device, it would wake itself to activate the alarm function. Luckily I use another backup alarm clock; the DX didn't wake to ring when it was charging while off (like to charge phones when turned off after I read you can achieve a more full charge).
