Whats the difference between a soft and hard reboot?

As I understand it, a soft reboot is when you shut down the phone and start it up again and a hard reboot is a factory reset, which I did today.

hard reboot is where you pull the battery out, soft reboot is where you tell the phone to shut down itself, factory reset is different.
