If you still can't seem to get a signal, you can try calling Verizon and letting them know about your issue. They can check the towers nearest you and see if any of them are having problems.
Thats impressive! Redwood valley is one of the very few places I get terrible signal.
For OP, did you try reprogramming your roaming, sometimes that helps if your having signal trouble.
Verizon has spent HUGE bucks beefing up and upgrading the network here over the past couple of years, I have a MonoPine (Monopole made to resemble a Pine Tree) only a mile from my place which gives me a full EVDO signal now (it's a colocation, USCC owns it. Verizon turned up their panels on it about a year and a half ago). Of course, they still have autoamtic, in-market roaming onto U.S. Cellular in bad areas too. When were you last up here in Mendocino County?

Thats good news. I had some signal issues around Willits too. Highway 20 from Ukiah to Williams has been upgraded, the last time I visited the area I had good signal the whole way, where before it would go to no bars.
Now to convert my friends and family up there to Verizon.

Lol Yeah, they and U.S. Cellular definitely have the best coverage up here! What's nice as well is both carriers roam in-market onto each other in bad areas, and now Verizon can roam on USCC's EVDO up here so you have high speed wherever there's a signal from USCC or VZ. AT&T hasn't done much at all to the network since they took over from Edge Wireless in April of 2008, no new sites and no new 3G (Edge put 3G up in Ukiah, parts of Lake County, the Eureka area, Crescent City, Susanville, parts of Southern Oregon, parts of SE Idaho and the Jackson, WY area), it's frustating.
That stretch of Hwy.20 is better, though from Clearlake Oaks to Williams it is still bad though, for every carrier. It's the main route between Mendocino, Lake, Southern Humboldt and Northern Sonoma Counties and the Sacramento Valley, why they haven't covered it yet is beyond me. Thankfully there are Call Boxes on Hwy.20, though those end at the Lake/Colusa County Line (evidently, Colusa County never participated in the Call Boxes). There is an old AT&T Longlines (AT&T Microwave Long Distance) site on Walker Ridge (you can see it if you look up to the left while driving east on 20), it's a perfect site for cell panels, and I have suggested it many times to the carriers, yet nothing has been done. It's owned by American Tower too, but it sits there, unused
So where in Willits are your family? I have some family there, in Ukiah and in Laytonville. I was born and raised in SoCal though, born in Riverside but grew up in West Covina (we lived right by Covina High), and graduated from Covina High School in 1990.
