Is it not possible to send group emails using gmail on the Droid X? I cant seem to get gmail to recognize the group in the To field. Am I missing something?

i just select the people i want basically and just send.. or you mean something else?

I know exactly what you mean cumby,i find with the "gmail" app it doesn't let me pull up groups in the send to field. Only way around this I've found is to use the more vanilla POP/IMAP mail app. It will allow you to send to groups in your address book (in regular cc or bcc)

Try going into your contacts. Search for your group, hit the Menu button on the Droid X and a list of choices pops up at the bottom. "Send message", "Send email", "Create event". The only problem I see is that you can only have 20 contacts in a group.
