Now that the SGN pandemonium is dying down, I was really hoping someone could help me out with a last ditch effort to save my game data.
Since I've struck out on every single effort made to find a way to save game data without root access, I'm changing my objective. Here's my question: Is there ANY way to revert from Gingerbread to Froyo without a factory reset? Believe me, I know the easy answer is no. I'm to the point where I'm willing to try more complicated, experimental or even dangerous methods to accomplish this feat.
If anyone has anything - anything at all - that could possibly get me one step closer to achieving my goal, I'd more than appreciate it. Again, please don't just say no because you haven't personally needed to do this. I've read a million threads on it and understand that it's not easy, if not impossible. But I'm very desperate and am making one last ditch effort to salvage my data.
Thanks so much to any who respond. Hope everyone is enjoying their Nexus! I know I'm LOOOOVING mine!
You CAN use Titanium Backup to back up your apps + data, factory reset, then restore them. That would retain your game data.
But no. You cannot install FroYo without a factory reset.
Hi there,
Thanks for the response. I was afraid of that. Your suggestion won't work however, as in order to root the phone I'd need to revert back to Froyo. So Titanium Backup does me no good, because the game data would have been wiped out by the time I could back it up.
Guess I'll just have to live and learn. Would you suggest rooting the Nexus? I never really saw any reason to root, but now it's looking like it'd be worth it even if the only thing I used it for was backing up data.
The X can't be rooted. Apparently the OTA 2.3.3 update is unrootable. I'd need to revert back to Froyo in order to root, which would defeat the entire purpose since it'd wipe it clean.
This is just a shot in left field, but is there any way to store the game data on the SD card somehow and then remove the SD before rooting? I've never personally rooted, so I apologize if that's a dumb question. Just trying to think of anything to save my data.
And as for the Nexus, if you can give me 2 or 3 good reasons to have it rooted, I'll do it, lol. I was sitting there trying to think what I'd use root access for and was completely drawing a blank. Pretty much everything it allows you to do, I don't do anyway! Lol. I used to want to root the X so that I could capture screenshots, get a few apps that wouldn't have normally worked and a couple other more aesthetic reasons. But maybe I'm not thinking of something for the Nexus! Talk me into it! I'd love to do it if I thought I needed it!
Thanks again for any responses. I've all but given up hope. It's okay, though...it was really only one game that I wanted the data from, so I'll just deal with it. I'd much rather have the Nexus and not the game data, then have to keep my old phone with data on board.
Thanks, but when I tried it said something about outdated firmware. It's ok. I need to ship the phone off tomorrow anyway, so I'm out of time. I actually sold it a week and a half ago, but the winning bidder was nice enough to let me keep it until the Nexus came out. Luckily it came out on the 15th like it was supposed to or I woulda been in trouble! LOL.
