Default What apps do rooted users have?

Question for you guys that are rooted, what apps do you use?

Right now I have:
  1. "ES File Explorer" - (this is the only free one I found that could access system files, also tried Root Browser Lite, X-Plore File Manager, ASTRO File Manager/Browser, and some could only rename files, others couldn't move anything. I also have FileExpert (free version) for just regular file management.)
  2. "SuperSU" - (had to install SuperUser first.)
  3. "WiFi Tether for Root Users" - (I tried WiFi Hotspot & USB Tether Lite, Barnacle WiFi Tether, Wireless Tether For Root Users, and Wifi Tethering...some just didn't work and others I wasn't able to connect with laptop.)
  4. "Titanium Backup * root"
  5. "AdAway"
Anyone maybe get one of the ones I said I couldn't get working to work? Or maybe found another one I didn't mention?

WifiKill - Allows you to kick people off of a network that you are connected to (not in the market)

Gemini App Manager - Has a lot of functions but my favorite is autorun, which lets you stop apps from starting on their own

FasterFix - Makes your GPS connect faster

Nothing really, just something newer that some users are moving to. Well, lets get the ball rolling Like kwknott said in that post, only reason you have to install SuperUser before SuperSU is because it uses a different binary.

Busy box is not an app that you will use. It actually is used by some root apps and root system commands. Think of it as a toolbox for root functions. It does nothing by itself, but helps other applications function properly.

just installed root call blocker pro, since - this being a VM phone - the previous owner of the number apparently owed a lot of money to a lot of different credit agencies who will not stop calling me no matter how many times i tell them that i am not miguel, i can't really be miguel because i'm not even a guy, i haven't known anyone named miguel since high school, and please leave me alone.

I'd have vm change you number if it wouldn't be a burden for you. Under the circumstances they shouldn't charge you.

Warning for others and need some help...turned on "WiFi Tether for Root Users", then tried to turn on 3G and got error 67. I saw someone had to use their MSL but didn't see an explanation on what had to be done to get rid of the error.

It would be a massive pain, my cell is my main phone, so I'd have to change it EEEEVerywhere. The call blocker app is working wonderfully, though. I'm not too bothered by it any more. Highly recommend it if you need to block creeps and credit agencies.

Really!! I'm using wifi tether for root user with no issue... weird it gave you a error 67.

To fix an error 67 you have to do an rtn reset. This will erase everything and your phone will be like the first time you took it out if box

Open phone dialer

Dial ##rtn#

It will ask for msl

Select reset and let phone reset

After it boots back up you will need to run activation app

You will keep your root so just reinstall superuser

No, it was working fine for me too, but I tried to turn on 3G WHILE I was using the hotspot. I think that is what caused it, what is supposed happen with error 67? I just can't turn on 3G anymore. My only choice is to reset huh?

Well if I have all my information written down (MSL, MDN, MSID, ESN/MEID HEX, ESN/MEID DEC) is there a different way to just input that instead of going through the reactivation?

If you try 3g and keep getting the error 67 you must reset. When you reset it wipes out your phone number and mdn. You must reactivate to reprogram your phone.

It doesn't wipe esn or meid or any of that good stuff. Reactivation just takes a min and you don't have to call vm or anything

If you don't wanna run activation app you can dial ##virgin# and select edit and manually put in phone and mdn numbers after reset

The error was popping up every few minutes actually after that, whether 3G was toggled or not. So did everyone else just never happen to be using 3G at the same time the WiFi/Tether apps were being used? Can't imagine this being random because it was as soon as I thought "Hmmm, bet the hotspot could have a better connection with 3G, *turn on 3G*" then error code 67 instantly.

Also gonna mention that I am using all free apps at this point so since I don't have Titanium Backup Pro I found "App Quarantine" that will allow me to freeze apps.

Anyone have a Wifi tether app that works with 3G on (read my post above as to what happened with mine)? If you haven't tested it and are going to check, be prepared to have to reset the phone to get rid of error code 67.

What were you using Wifi tether for before you turned on 3g? A bridge? Or were you running off 1X speeds?

Open Garden WiFi seems to work happily for me. I hook my Xoom up regularly to it with no problems. If I'm on WiFi on my phone it automatically turns it off so it connects to 3G then turns the WiFi back on when it's done (although I have no use for that feature myself!)

Not really sure, never had a tether app before this, in WiFi Tether for Root Users I have all settings on default besides SSID name.

Can you give me a link to that app? Not sure if you mean this one here, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=og.android.tether&feature=related_apps but it's telling me not available for this phone unless I use the direct link.

Just wondering if you were trying to get a direct connection to a PC (ad hoc). Was confused as to what you where trying to do originally.

Yes, that's the one although I'm more than a little surprised its saying it's not available for your phone. Have you tried the direct link?

I find the app very easy to use with the only caveat that it stores the password for your connection in clear text in the data folder for the app.

Besides that I like the way you can easily limit which MAC addresses have access.

Open Garden is probably not incompatible, it's more likely it has been blocked by Virgin.

As for my moms rooted Elite...
WiFi Tether for Root Users
Mybackup Pro
Adfree
ESfile Manager

The main reasons for root were Adfree, tether, bloat removal, and removing that stupid boot animation and sound (sound can actually be done without root).

IT is possible to OC stable to 1.5ghz. Metropcs has the mirror phone dubbed the LG Optimus M+ and we already have a kernel that enables us to OC to that speed.

Since it is the same processor in both phones with the same specs minus the NFC, you should be able to get a kernel compiled rather quickly for the elite

Your way only works if you have root.
The app works with or without it.

LG Notifications - Makes your soft key lights flash when you get a text, call, or other notification

Button Remapper - I found it on XDA. It lets you change the function of the soft keys. It seems cool but I can't get it to do what I want. I tried to get the search button to open my camera but it only works if I long press.

Permissions Denied - Lets you revoke permissions from apps. I haven't used it yet but it seems to break a lot of apps.

RootDim - Lets you lower the screen brightness beyond what you normally can.

Titanium Backup - REQUIRED. The gold standard of backup apps.
And let this burn away any doubt about that point; I just soft-bricked my OE yesterday morning, got a replacement, and I had had Titanium Backup back all of my apps up to that point - as well as system level backup - to my ExSD card. Popped it in, rooted my replacement OE, and fired up Titanium Backup, hit "Restore", and five minutes later I'm back to the warm and fuzzy goodness that is a functioning OE with everything, including data to go with those apps, restored and in working order without a hitch. Including all of my contacts and texts. ADDENDUM: First thing TB does after it's reinstalled? It happened to have backed up it's own settings, and right on time it not only remembers my schedules set up on my previous OE, but proceeds to carry them out first by deleting backups of uninstalled apps, then backing everything currently installed, post-restore, up to my ExSD. Awesome.

The gold standard indeed.

And now for my list:

SuperSU
BusyBox Free
CPU Tuner
DroidWall
FontChanger (I used it for the Roboto font)
Holo Launcher
ROM Toolbox Lite
Root Explorer
Root Uninstaller (fun fact: freeze Maps with this after stopping it [Maps], and that'll circumvent the problem of it auto-starting itself for no reason)
and last, but not least,
Titanium Backup

Useful, some non-root:

Flashlight + LED (now may be renamed in the Market to just Flashlight)
GO Power Master
GPS Status (additionally, it will fix up your stock GPS to perform much better than before)
JuiceDefender
Move2SD
Scan It
SD Speed Increase
Wifi Tether
SSHTunnel
X-Ray - for testing the vulnerability of your device)
InstaWifi
DroidSheep Guard
Adfree

This can be accomplished without root or an app. It is right in the system settings.

Settings -> Display -> Front key as indicator

This one (X-Ray for Android) really isn't good at all. Its better than the so-called 'virus scanners' for android. But it still fails on our phone. It says our phone is vulnerable to gingerbreak. That exploit was patched in android before our version (2.3.7) came out.

That's true, though it was worth mentioning as in-general since it was featured on Android Police.

Solid Explorer - Not strictly a root app, but it's a really cool file manager. It has split screen which makes moving files easier, and you can use it with cloud storage apps like dropbox and box. It's still in beta but it works well.

Is that like Total Commander at all? Sounds similar given the split/dual screen.
