[ROM] Sleipnir v2.4.0.3 - 05/18/13 - VM & SPRINT
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ What is Sleipnir?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In Norse mythology, Sleipnir (pronounced slayp-neer) is an eight-legged horse. Sleipnir is attested in the Poetic Edda, compiled in the 13th century from earlier traditional sources, and the Prose Edda, written in the 13th century by Snorri Sturluson. In both sources, Sleipnir is Odin's steed, is the child of Loki and Svaðilfari, and is described as the best of all horses.
The Sleipnir ROM is a barebones Android-loving beastie - only the essentials were retained. It was cultivated from four different ROMs that each had their own unique strengths, to join forces and become one. It is the logical combination of Aeneas, by Leslie Ann, ICS Elite, by Curtis1973 and ktb83, Tagged, by Hashtag, and Ægir (now Sleipnir), by yours truly. Sleipnir has the goal of being the fastest, most efficient and battery-saving, Gingerbread-2.3.7-based, non-CyanogenMod/AOKP, ROM for the LG Optimus Elite.
Long story short: this is how the stock ROM should have been, and it's getting better all of the time thanks to all of you.
You can restore your data from a Nandroid backup (Note:only restore data), but do so only after Sleipnir has been installed, otherwise your phone will get stuck in a bootloop. The how-to guide can be found here.
Install Sleipnir_vxxxxX.zip. The installer will take care of the rest.
xxxxX is the current ROM version number and service carrier letter.
Under Advanced in CWM, select Fix Permissions. This is a preventative measure.
Reboot the phone normally, via the Main Menu of CWM.
Enjoy!
If you're just updating:
Make a Nandroid backup.
Install Sleipnir_vxxxX.zip. The installer will take care of the rest.
xxxxX is the current ROM version number and service carrier letter.
Under Advanced in CWM, select Fix Permissions. This is a preventative measure.
Reboot the phone normally, via the Main Menu of CWM.
Enjoy!
A video walkthrough of installing Sleipnir may be found here. -Courtesy of BIONICLE38.
Here's a little 'tuneage whilst Sleipnir downloads and/or installs.
Note:If you've changed your network settings through the device's hidden menu, after flashing Sleipnir (even just an update) you will have to change your settings once again, as they will be reverted back to their defaults. One example is changing your network to CDMA only, by following this thread's instructions. After flashing any ROM (including Sleipnir) you will have to make that change again if you wish to keep it. Information courtesy of elgecko.
The most powerful file browser available for Android, and the top battery-saving app, and are both included as user apps, rather than system, so they play nice both with their paid versions and the Play Store. Plus, if you'd rather not have them, they're easily uninstallable via no-hassle, normal, means.
What's Been Removed?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There were many apps that were removed from how the phone came out of the box, and the reasons for this are, among others:
They were bloat/weighing the phone down unnecessarily (see this guide)
They receive frequent updates (thus making this ROM outdated the moment one of them updates)
Everyone uses a phone differently (and as such, use different apps, some not at all, some use all of them)
In a true-stock ROM, only the bare essentials, and maximum compatibility with everything you might need to do, should be kept.
As a result, you have the most freedom with your phone in choosing what you have and what you do not have, as all extras have been removed, and thus can truly have an experience tailored to you. This provides an ultra-lightweight, smooth, uncluttered experience, and you are free to do whatever you like without hassle. So, without further ado, here is the complete list of apps that have been removed:
Android Live Wallpapers
com.google.android.voicesearch.apk
GenieWidget.apk
Google+
Google Maps
Google Play Books
Google Play Music
Google Shopper
Google Talk
Google Wallet
Magic Smoke Wallpapers
Mobile ID (a Trojan Horse of bloatware. No, really.)
Music Visualization Wallpapers
Polaris Viewer (replaced with Total Commander)
Protips.apk
Quick Memo
Sound Recorder
Sprint_Installer2201.apk
Sprint Smart Device Manager
Sprint Voicemail (don't fret Sprint users, Voicemail still functions correctly)
Street View
Videos.apk
VM ROMs (not what you think it is)
YouTube
Zone-Myaccount-v3.0.43.apk (homescreen shortcut)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ How do I report a problem?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Has the issue only just happened once (likely a fluke caused by an app and not because of the ROM)? Or, can you reliably repeat/replicate the issue (which would be a ROM problem)?
Double check everything you've done, following all directions verbatim (word for word), and make sure that MD5 Sums match where applicable.
Check the pages of this thread and the rest of the LG Optimus Elite and Elite All Things Root boards to see if someone hasn't had a similar problem you're experiencing, and if they did you can see what the solution may be.
If none of the steps above have helped, feel free to create a post about the issue you're experiencing in this thread, detailing the problem in plain and clear English and what you have and have not done, and someone will get back to you ASAP.
Min Frequency: 245 MHz - Anything lower, and you're gonna have a bad time.
Max Frequency: 1612 MHz - Maximum allowed by the kernel.
Note:If your phone becomes unstable at a maximum frequency of 1612 MHz, or the minimum of 245 MHz, try lowering the maximum frequency to the next highest, and raising the minimum frequency to the next lowest, so on and so forth, until the phone becomes stable. Although 245 MHz and 1612 MHz are stable for many OEs, some OEs are unable to handle those frequencies properly.
Result: No lag, and supreme battery life.
Note: If your CPU Tuner app of choice (I personally recommend No-frills CPU Control) includes I/O Scheduling, please click here for a breakdown of the I/O Scheduler. Courtesy of Dark One.
TL;DR: Set your I/O Scheduler to noop. Courtesy of giantpune.
Note:I/O scheduling is utterly pointless for flash-memory devices, such as Android smartphones. However, if you have to set it,noopis the best option.
Apps
The following apps in both of these Apps sections are listed, as opposed to others in their category of function, because of a.) Consistently high ratings, b.) Touted highly by respected sources such as AndroidPolice, c.) Quality, and d.) Developer ability and dedication to release of updates when needed.
Extremely powerful, customizable, dual-windowed, ad-free, $0, lightweight file browser and root-permissions capable. Already included in Sleipnir (here's a handy guide!).
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ If You are Experiencing Battery Life Issues
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Read the above Recommended CPU Settings, and try using only one profile, with only one governor, that is active/running at all times, instead of multiple profiles and/or multiple governors. The CPU having to change profiles and governors frequently can cause a big drain in battery life.
In CWM (ClockWorkMod Recovery); Wipe Battery Stats -> Reboot -> Fully Charge Your OE.
Properly configure JuiceDefender (it comes included with the ROM for good reason). It is very helpful if you have access to the Advanced profile of JuiceDefender, allowing for the greatest amount of customization. The following are my recommended settings, whereby JuiceDefender does not interfere with your manually enabled/disabled data, gps, wifi, bluetooth, etc., but still improves battery life all the same:

Help:
Screen-> Enable After Unlock (blue) Mobile Data Autofix-> Mobile Data Autofix (blue) Disable on Wifi-> Data (blue) Start at Boot-> Boot Workaround (blue)
And that's it. Everything else is left untouched/is disabled/inactive. Feel free to change things according to how it best suits you, of course, like the schedules, but that's a carbon copy of what I currently have (and have had for over a month now).
Most of the credit goes to Hashtag, Curtis, KTB, giantpune, and Leslie Ann. This ROM went from being a solo project by myself, to becoming a fusion of my work with Curtis and KTB's tag-team ICSE, Hashtag's Tagged, Leslie Ann's Aeneas, and giantpune's custom kernel. Also thanks to pilot03 for helping me get a Sprint version of both Sleipnir and, as a direct result, Hydra, up and going. Please thank all of them for their hard, quality work, and their assistance in helping to build this ROM - after all, without it, without them, and without you, this ROM would not exist. Thank you.

More screenshots added, I found the rest of them. Also, before noting UI inconsistencies, I am aware of a few already and am working to correct them, bear with me :P
Additionally.... it's time to update these old ringtones, notifications, and alarms, shall we?

This hour marks my 37th hour awake since I last slept, and you made me lol. Thank you, sir.
Currently running through each of the .ogg files for the notifications, alarms, and ringtones. They're getting a heavy update (I haven't seen any other ROMs update those, yet). I think you're all going to like the result. Also, if I can, I will add a poll here shortly regarding PowerOn.mp3's inclusion or not.

Ooohh....Now you need polls and games integrated into downloading your ROM..huh, Noooo, we can't just go and download a simple ROM anymore we have to take part in voting and freakin sweepstakes.....
Myehhh

Really?
.... huh, weird. I downloaded the original as .ogg with the same metadata from mediafire, and left it untouched aside from converting it to .mp3. Weird. Anyway, link updated, go ahead and try it now.

Keep your points...I Want My Brownies!
Lol. I'm only going to hold a poll for the PowerOn.mp3, since some are choosing not to have one and others do. I'm in part curious to see how many people want one at all, if they're going to download this ROM - I, personally, will add it for my own use, but as for the community version, that would be the only difference. Like I said, this is only what my personal idea of an ideal ROM is. If people like it, that's up to them.
Nice play on the suspense technique bro.....you've got me at the edge of my seat COMING!---IN!---ONDINE!

This is just an update: since I work two jobs, work on Aegir is extremely slow. All devs have my permission to do whatever they want with Aegir - and I'll be honest, I, myself, am using a combo of Tagged and Aegir right now. With Hashtag's permission, I can release what I've got right now. With the way things are looking, it appears that Hashtag's ROM, Aegir, and Curtis' ROM, all have the same goal (or very similar), and it would be fun if we could combine all three into one uber ROM. At least I think so.
Anyway, just some food for thought.

Alrighty then, with that here's the newest build that I myself am currently using. It's a hack-fusion of Tagged, Aegir, and with some elements borrowed from The ICS Elite Aeneas ROM that Curits and Ktb have been building. Enjoy. I would also recommend running Leslie's New_ROM_Elite zip, instead of the Update one, for this install. It also includes my audio compilation from several different system dumps of various phones, some listed here in the forums and some not.
